Magic money, Longmuir, Ahmad

BDO’s survey of British football clubs suggests control, if not complete sanity, has descended on Scottish football.  Most Premiership clubs surveyed predicted they would return to profitability over the next year.

On the back of Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s article on former Scottish Football League chief exec David Longmuir’s bonuses, which are no longer payable, these are heady days for some clubs who have lived hand-to-mouth stuffing pork into Longmuir’s trough.  You better believe it’s financial Armageddon, for the former SFL man. The SFA will surely insist on inappropriate financial stain is left on our game.

Anyway………. It seems if I explain the structural gap between Rangers International’s earnings through season ticket sales and the costs of operating a football club which can facilitate circa 40,000 spectators on a regular basis, we can all figure why the gap cannot be bridged.  We are different because despite having enormously higher football costs, we can access enormously higher revenue streams.

On the other hand, explaining that Celtic’s operational costs need to be augmented by player sales and/or Champions League income, just to break even, and that player sales and/or Champions League income cannot exclusively be used for player purchases, amounts to a heresy against deeply held orthodox views.

Add in a reminder about the strategy which has made all the difference to Celtic – buying wisely, selling wisely, and sit back to watch a secular belief structure ignore the ‘every penny to be spent’ prediction and vent as though their deity has just been denied.

This stuff’s complicated, apparently, but paying attention to financial detail is not a required Obligation to support Celtic, so if it doesn’t float your boat, I’d start by demanding to know where all the Seville money went to….

I hear the Daily Record accompanied their – Imran Ahmad to sue Rangers International for £3.4m – story with a completely baseless story about Celtic losing out on the only transfer target they know about.  They were wrong on some of the Ahmad story (Charles Green may have produced the documents Ahmad would rely on in court, but suggestions they are in concert on this claim are wildly inappropriate).  Still, it plays into current orthodoxy on Charles Green.

Going on what they’ve written, they know nothing about Celtic’s transfer negotiations either.  Absolutely squat.  Percentage of Celtic fans who know the media’s game: 100%.  Percentage of Celtic fans who allow themselves to be influenced despite knowing the above……?

If these people have you panicking, look elsewhere for sympathy.  We have a team building strategy, it has delivered well thus far and it will continue to do so.  Buy wisely, sell wisely, spend every penny over a given business cycle.  Pretty straightforward, really.

We can all sometimes dehumanise others just to fit in with our own mindset.

I know that I have done it…but hopefully not for a long time now.

They say it comes from anger but I was so raging at the time I couldn’t say for sure.

  2. I love the Celtic Board. They are so honest that transparency is not required.

However [deepens eyebrow] those pesky supporters should either shut up or go to jail.

    Good morning CQNers,

Following the latest corruption allegations concerning Longmuir and Ballantyne it begs the question’s, is corruption rife in Scottish football? And were Rangers no worse than the rest?

It is looking increasingly likely the silence of the Celtic board and other clubs over the last couple of years is not indifference but a conspiracy of silence to protect themselves from scrutiny.

What other reason can there be for the total lack of accountability for the blatant misdeeds being brought into focus?

    Transparency my a**e.

Sorry, I’m afraid I didn’t watch the link above to it’s conclusion and therefore didn’t know it contained some prohibited language, would someone remove it please.

  7. Good morning friends from a dry, bright, calm and generally very pleasant East Kilbride.

Good luck to Scott Brown tonight as he captains my country. Worried that the game might be a bit one sided, but fingers crossed.

Good Morning CQNers, can’t stress enough the importance of all Celtic players involved in this “friendly” tonight returning injury free, as for the result I think England will win convincingly.

  9. Just in to say….

Big Mark McGhee’s mind-games will prove to be the winner tonight. imo

I said the same before the recent victory over Croatia.

WGS recommended MM as the next Cellic manager after himself

    a trick was missed. imo

Adam Virgo would have been the new Roy Aitken under MM’s watch. imo

Ach well – canny win them all – CSC

Am no so sure Jobo, I reckon the Queens first 11 might be up fot this and give us a game at least…

  11. I met my younger self on the tube yesterday. Travelling to Guys hospital from Baker Street to London Bridge on the Jubilee line to visit an ill neighbour of mine. I was lost in thought when the carriage was flooded with Scottish football fans resplendent in their kilts and football tops.

It took me back to the 70s and 80s when that younger self of mine probably believed that we were the humorous shock troops unsettling our complacent southern English natives.

Well yesterday in that carriage I had a bit of an identity crisis. I could see that same swagger but for all their verbosity ( and very loud and bad language ) they seemed out of step with the times. London is full of all nationalities and particularly this time of year when it is crowded with tourists and their families.

The wha’s like us mentality never sat easy with me particularly as a Celtic fan experiencing the supremacist culture emanating from our formal rivals.

Maybe I have just aged and mellowed over the years in London but there was something cringeworthy in that tube yesterday.

Perhaps it was just the wee country mentality of trying to shock the big neighbours and badly reading the signs ( no one cares ). I will think on.

Anyway I will be at Wembley tonight supporting my country Scotland and firmly hoping that any Celts involved escape injury. A seriously stupid game to play at an even more stupid time of the season.

  12. The players playing tonight are representing a disgraced and shameful football association the SFA and until that association becomes worthy of Scotland as a nation i wont be having any interest in it

The most important games to Scottish football are the C/L qualifiers which involve Celtic, Scottish football benefits in all areas if Celtic make the group stages, to put at risk Celtic players tonight in a meaningless friendly is total stupidity

  13. There is a bit of me that, at this moment in history, specifically, hopes to see us getting beat more than 6-0, because those bastards in blazers deserve nothing less….

I know it’s a long shot with their Brass Knecks, I just want them to have at least a wee bit of a Red Face while on their Junkett South, and then crawl North on their blaze red bellies to Face The Music…

There are enough Legends, Pros and Respected Auld Heids, outside theSFA pay, to call them on their Shannigans… One would hope…

    We can but hope…

  14. Looking out for our Derry bhoys and ghirls in the news there…

    Enjoy the craic…

  15. time for change on

cof the club brings me back to a recent CQN motto “never disturb your enemy when he’s making mistakes”….

Once again Phil has outed what was meant to be done behind closed doors and this new club Rangers International FC are now carrying the mantel of their erstwhile we are the people guise…no shame, no dignity and no morals.

A great man once said a lie remains a lie no matter how many times its’s repeated the truth is the truth even if not spoken.

Not looking forward to this game tonight however have been angrier at the younger teams results. Since Mark Wotte has become involved in Scottish football we have gone rapidly downhill and no longer are competitive at this level. He wanted to close our accademy, Dundee Uniteds and Falkirks amongst others (thankfully got told where to go) and replace them with SFA run academies. Celtic’s younger players have at least played in tournaments in Turkey, Russia and Switzerland in my recent memory and the under 20’s will get Nextgen and this new Champions League tournemant format this year, if we qualify.

As a club we will have to make our own way…keep the SFA out of it.

    Hail Hail

  16. Trust me you will not make a dent at the 6th floor at Hampden, it will carry on as it always has Masonic to the core, they know it, and they know we know it and they know we can do nothing about it, and we can’t, unfortunately I witnessed it close up and personnel (free masonry) and it not a pretty, the height and level of government and judicial power they can go to would blow your mind, unfortunately they are untouchable and answerable ONLY to the lodge they belong to and it is all done in house not in public, number one rule of a Mason is, you can not feck a Brother, everyone circles the wagons and protects them, you only have to look at what is going on over in Sevconions Land and there you see it in full bloom, Lord NImmo Smith & Mr Bryson’s little “nothing to see here let’s move on” comedy act, yes we all know it was a stitch up, but what was done about it NOTHING SFA, same as will happen to this latest little piece of skulduggery, trust me watch how it pans out, and watch us sit by and do SFA, and I don’t just mean Celtic Fans, I mean every fan in Scotland, and until we all pull together it will so continue for ever and ever, sad state of a country that is ran by a secret orginisation, shame on us?

  17. Re moaning

I believe it would be useful to categorise the above:

Straightforward moan: Balde could not trap a bag of cement , give us a centre forward Peter. All clear moans not usually backed up by any facts , makes a point and the giver has got something off their chest

Internal Celtic conspiracy moan: usually directed at the board in the style of a Barrack Room lawyer backed up by opinions dressed up as facts

Outlandish moans : the Celtic Board are responsible for everything going wrong. Best recent examples – Celtic board are ensuring we go downhill so that we can be competitive with Rangers when they come back to spl; or last night’s lulu Celtic board were quiet about the Rangers demise because they did not want transparency because they knew about the Longmuir bonus.

The last one has to be the product of a very mixed up approach to football – better off considering another sport , sport, to keep the blood pressure on an even keel.

Another day, another 24 hour moan fest, let the moaning commence.

  18. Morning slightly overcast in the Chilled Chilterns…

Hope WGS’s Scotland do us proud tonight (Scots that is), during the seventies and eighties I saw many a good Scotland side put in top quality performances.

Personally I don’t think the rise of Rangers as the dominante force in SCottish Football and the retrenchment of the National team and Scottish Football in General is coincidental.

So it would be good to see Armageddon Averted yet again.

Jock Stein was never a great fan of the England games when he was Scotland manager, it became Scotland’s biggest game of the year each and every year, while more important games were given less credence. He wanted to abandone them, he got his wish but didn’t live to take Scotland to the next level.

Ifs and buts are futile but used to often wonder if he had lived to a ripe old age what Scottish Football might have been with a man of his stature around.

    England 1-2 Scotland

    You’re right, total cringe.

Prediction for tonight- England 4-1 Scotland.

  20. tonydonelly67

tony that was a bit negative this early in the morning, although probably agree with most of it I still hold out a bit of hope if only due to the fact that if they had that much disregard then the huns would have went straight in to spl last year, fan power I know but they still didny get away with ,if it is as bad as u say [god I know its bad] they would have been shoehorned in regardless of fan power .Never give up cheers

  21. Not really bothered about the international tonight, I will watch it and hope the jocks get a half decent result, something to do on a Wed. night I suppose.

  22. EKBhoy –

You forgot the “I know something you don’t” moan.

It goes along the lines of . . .

Dermot Desmond is not interested in Celtic. He only bought shares because of his son/daughter/wife/parrot [delete as appropriate].

  23. Rick tic

As you say we all live in hope, but honestly is there anything in the red tops this morning about it? If not well there you go they have started again.
