Magic money, Longmuir, Ahmad

1037

BDO’s survey of British football clubs suggests control, if not complete sanity, has descended on Scottish football.  Most Premiership clubs surveyed predicted they would return to profitability over the next year.

On the back of Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s article on former Scottish Football League chief exec David Longmuir’s bonuses, which are no longer payable, these are heady days for some clubs who have lived hand-to-mouth stuffing pork into Longmuir’s trough.  You better believe it’s financial Armageddon, for the former SFL man. The SFA will surely insist on inappropriate financial stain is left on our game.

Anyway………. It seems if I explain the structural gap between Rangers International’s earnings through season ticket sales and the costs of operating a football club which can facilitate circa 40,000 spectators on a regular basis, we can all figure why the gap cannot be bridged.  We are different because despite having enormously higher football costs, we can access enormously higher revenue streams.

On the other hand, explaining that Celtic’s operational costs need to be augmented by player sales and/or Champions League income, just to break even, and that player sales and/or Champions League income cannot exclusively be used for player purchases, amounts to a heresy against deeply held orthodox views.

Add in a reminder about the strategy which has made all the difference to Celtic – buying wisely, selling wisely, and sit back to watch a secular belief structure ignore the ‘every penny to be spent’ prediction and vent as though their deity has just been denied.

This stuff’s complicated, apparently, but paying attention to financial detail is not a required Obligation to support Celtic, so if it doesn’t float your boat, I’d start by demanding to know where all the Seville money went to….

I hear the Daily Record accompanied their – Imran Ahmad to sue Rangers International for £3.4m – story with a completely baseless story about Celtic losing out on the only transfer target they know about.  They were wrong on some of the Ahmad story (Charles Green may have produced the documents Ahmad would rely on in court, but suggestions they are in concert on this claim are wildly inappropriate).  Still, it plays into current orthodoxy on Charles Green.

Going on what they’ve written, they know nothing about Celtic’s transfer negotiations either.  Absolutely squat.  Percentage of Celtic fans who know the media’s game: 100%.  Percentage of Celtic fans who allow themselves to be influenced despite knowing the above……?

If these people have you panicking, look elsewhere for sympathy.  We have a team building strategy, it has delivered well thus far and it will continue to do so.  Buy wisely, sell wisely, spend every penny over a given business cycle.  Pretty straightforward, really.

    Evening all,

Just reading here how Rangers and Denis Law beat England in 1967 — oh and there were others in the team apparently!

    ————

    thats Post revisionism right enough.

Ive watched all that game a few times on old video tape. Lennox was a stand out, for direct running and making chances, and scores a goal.

But he didnt tackle like Greig. ffs.

I would give the benefit of the doubt if anyone says this Ranger or that Ranger were great against us, but seriously Greig and McKinnon , one of the great defensive partnerships in europe evidenced by their run in the runners up cup, gies a break.

What is does highlight though, there were better celts left out than the huns that were in the team.

Selection committe ? SFA Bowling club more like.

Next up, I used to be quite a Scotland supporter, went to all the home games from my first in 78 v Norway 3-2 , Kenny Dal booed relentlessly from the mount florida end, right up till I think Scotland England in 1990.

Ive been to a few since, mostly the big big games like Italy and Spain, but that was more to see the opposition.

What set the seeds for my change of heart was the Scotland Ireland match in Euro Championships1987 when I witnessed from the main stand a constant stream of anti catholic, anti irish vitriol against the Green team, Fenian bs the lot of them. Including Mcstay and even more so Aitken.

Ireland won 1-0 , from a very early Lawrenson goal, and were the better team.

    I left very mixed up.

In recent times, going to games, this Modern Tartan Army, are a charade of respectability, cheif accountants, Company directors and small team followers. But scratch the surface just a little and an anti-celtic player culture continues (well a certain type of celtic player).

And get any chat going on McGeady , jeese oh.

I got offered a super duper hospitaltiy package for tomorrow nights game, I want to see Wembley, and it was tempting.

But at the end i said no.

Ive asked my english host to report back what he hears from the army

Benfica: Forster is the priority to give competition to Arthur

Celtic goalkeeper is English and has 25 years.

    By Nuno Travassos 13.08.2013 23:49 h

Benfica intends to hire a goalkeeper, and this time the main goal is Fraser Forster, Celtic. The talks with the Scottish emblem already taking place, but do not seem all easy.

When the Maisfutebol found, Jorge Jesus asked a goalkeeper to compete Arthur, somewhat similar to what happened with Eduardo in 2011/12.

Between late July and early August were put several names on the table, including Brazilians, but at this stage the priority is to Forster, 25, and negotiations have progressed in recent days.

Born in Hexham, the goalkeeper signed for Newcastle in the final phase of the training course, but in six years could never play for the first team. He went on loan to Stockport, Bristol and then to Norwich, where he caught the eye.

In August 2010 he moved to Celtic. In the first two seasons was borrowed, but a year ago the Scottish club advanced to purchase the pass for approximately two million pounds (about two and a half million euros).

At this point Forster is valued at four million euros (according to the renowned ‘Transfermarkt “), but negotiations between Benfica and Celtic will be slightly above it (between six and seven million euros), of which one must keep in account competition from English clubs.

The Celtic is aware that this may be an opportunity to make a good deal, but hesitates to give up one of the figures team.

Forster has attracted the attention of several clubs in the country, in view of the beautiful views that have initialed the service of Celtic, including the Champions League, proves that played against Benfica last season (remember that the Scottish emblem spent the group stage and Benfica did not). The two views against Barcelona mainly deserved accolades. The keeper was the last time, called several times to check, though they have not yet premiered.

When the Maisfutebol found no other name in the table, and of course the leaders of Benfica has also developed contacts for possible employment this keeper, but the priority is Fraser Forster. A goal that will not, however, anything but easy, as mentioned above.

I used to run a couple of Facebook groups for Non-Celtic supporters against Sevco corruption. Initially there was a big interest from a broad spectrum of supporters. After the tribute act were put into division three. Concern dropped a lot then apathy and confusion regarding the fact resulted in a continual drop. So much so, I closed the groups a few months ago.
