Magic money, Longmuir, Ahmad

BDO’s survey of British football clubs suggests control, if not complete sanity, has descended on Scottish football.  Most Premiership clubs surveyed predicted they would return to profitability over the next year.

On the back of Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s article on former Scottish Football League chief exec David Longmuir’s bonuses, which are no longer payable, these are heady days for some clubs who have lived hand-to-mouth stuffing pork into Longmuir’s trough.  You better believe it’s financial Armageddon, for the former SFL man. The SFA will surely insist on inappropriate financial stain is left on our game.

Anyway………. It seems if I explain the structural gap between Rangers International’s earnings through season ticket sales and the costs of operating a football club which can facilitate circa 40,000 spectators on a regular basis, we can all figure why the gap cannot be bridged.  We are different because despite having enormously higher football costs, we can access enormously higher revenue streams.

On the other hand, explaining that Celtic’s operational costs need to be augmented by player sales and/or Champions League income, just to break even, and that player sales and/or Champions League income cannot exclusively be used for player purchases, amounts to a heresy against deeply held orthodox views.

Add in a reminder about the strategy which has made all the difference to Celtic – buying wisely, selling wisely, and sit back to watch a secular belief structure ignore the ‘every penny to be spent’ prediction and vent as though their deity has just been denied.

This stuff’s complicated, apparently, but paying attention to financial detail is not a required Obligation to support Celtic, so if it doesn’t float your boat, I’d start by demanding to know where all the Seville money went to….

I hear the Daily Record accompanied their – Imran Ahmad to sue Rangers International for £3.4m – story with a completely baseless story about Celtic losing out on the only transfer target they know about.  They were wrong on some of the Ahmad story (Charles Green may have produced the documents Ahmad would rely on in court, but suggestions they are in concert on this claim are wildly inappropriate).  Still, it plays into current orthodoxy on Charles Green.

Going on what they’ve written, they know nothing about Celtic’s transfer negotiations either.  Absolutely squat.  Percentage of Celtic fans who know the media’s game: 100%.  Percentage of Celtic fans who allow themselves to be influenced despite knowing the above……?

If these people have you panicking, look elsewhere for sympathy.  We have a team building strategy, it has delivered well thus far and it will continue to do so.  Buy wisely, sell wisely, spend every penny over a given business cycle.  Pretty straightforward, really.

  2. canamalar – thats probably why the club haven’t been coming out claiming we’re chasing this player and that player. the club is keeping it’s cards close to its chest. if one club wants to start playing games increasing transfer fee then inform them cheerio, we have other options. if a club gets a good/acceptable offer they will have to give it serious consideration to sell. its all a game of poker. everyone wants a good price. prob is buying and selling clubs good price tend to be at opposite ends of the scale.

Last season at CP – the crowds fell to almost half the capacity after fans had already paid for their tickets – because, CL games apart – the product on the pitch was ‘rank’. imo

So, in their wisdom – the ‘bored’ have cut the quality even further although they have made some efforts in the recruitment side with players who are still on ‘trial’ or have worsened the injuries that they already had from their previous clubs.

I remeber when Kenny Miller after a difficult start for us under WGS, when he was finding it hard to get any form or, was carrying injuries – things started to click together for him when – hey presto – PL insisted to WGs that he be sold immediately ?

Kenny Miller, when being asked if he wanted to leave Celtic said – ” I’m very happy here especially now that I’ve hit a good scoring run but – Peter said to me that if I don’t leave now – I’ll end up in 6th place in the pecking order of strikers which is very disappointing !”

Now, PL telling the player where he would feature in the pecking order ?

Surely ‘that’ was the cue for WGS to step in and demand that ‘he’ was incharge of the dressing room ?

As I’ve alluded to on here often enough – you won’t get the Celtic managers job unless your a puppet.imo

That has been the case since MO’N left. imo

And, since MO’N left – the crowds have started to dwindle. imo

Watched an interview with J I on Celtic tv after game Saturday. A very level headed young man. He took the view that it would be very difficult to move any of the existing midfield and that he would go out on loan to progress by playing more matches in a competitive environment with the aim to return ready to really compete for a first team spot. He said it could be till Jan or end of season.

And why would that bother you ?

Glad to see you can differentiate the club from the PLC, and it’s not just me there are now 60 shareholders and many nom shareholders who agree with me.

Since this blogs inception we’ve had the jam tomorrow get out of Scottish football discussion encouraged by those who can see no criticism of the board.

Yourself advocate a pie in the sky idea that only the supporters of all club unite and force change, it’s as likely as us getting out of Scotland, even your much heralded ‘look what happened when they tried to shoehorn them into the SPL’ never actually caused any changes, the SFA are still as bent as they were before if anything they became worse.

The board know we are going nowhere for the foreseeable future yet they still encourage/perpetuate the myth as a distraction for those who refuse to see the truth.

I would take a couple of years without European or international football if it resulted in our game being put right, and sorted for future generations, after all we don’t base out finances on European football or so we are told.

The only example I can think of was them re-signing Hateley to play against us at Parkhead – he acted like a thug all day and got sent off but they got the desired result.

Naka not signing in time etc – may or may not have made the difference v Artmedia but have we got a Celtic example of a signing coming in and doing the business for the match we apparently need him for?

Maybe the manager knows that his signing targets – will be for the season and not the game next week and he has a couple more weeks to get them in.

Cadette v Aberdeen was a great night but he wasn’t signed as we desperately needed him for that game.

One Celtic blogger called Neil Lennon a coward yesterday. One of the bravest guys who has ever been associated with our club. All because he hasn’t signed someone. Also had a dig at Paul – who has risked plenty himself for the club.

  14. Turn the clock back.

Consider what would have happened had Celtic spoken out way back in those early days when RFC were facing Admin.

The entire focus would have been turned on Celtic.

Every utterance of any official at Celtic would have copped a punishment.

Celtic would have faced fines, suspensions etc… one after another.

Even now, the SFA would be only too happy to punish Celtic given the slightest opportunity. Just look at NFL. He was hammered by the SFA. What happened to Sally McCoist – SFA.

That is the environment in which Celtic exist.

Officials who wield power hate Celtic.

Celtic must go about their business quietly and do their work behind the scenes.

I have absolutely no doubt that is what is going on.

Sevco are on the verge of imploding, just like their previous mutation.

I would certainly hope that the SFA are hammered when that happens. But it must come from all clubs. Celtic cannot do this alone.

Most clubs in Scotland have Sevconian leanings and a pathological hatred of all things Celtic.

Trying to garner support from the other clubs is very difficult.

Even last year, were it not for the fans themselves, Sevco would have been slotted right into the SPL.

The fans, through the threat of not buying SBs are the only ones who can force events to make these officials accountable.

I suggest that the fans should unite into a single body which can force officials to be truly accountable.

But who can make it happen?

  15. Delaneys Dunky,
