The same is true of the betting markets. If he leaves Newcastle, Rafael Benitez (third favourite for the Celtic job), has options in China that would make him inordinately wealthy within a season. He is not coming to Glasgow.
Roberto Martinez (fourth favourite for the Celtic job), is manager of Belgium – who top the Fifa rankings. He will take some of the most gifted footballers in the game to the Euro 2020 finals in June and July next year. If he gave that up to come to Celtic he would fail every professional criteria you would want in a Celtic manager. This is simply not the time for Roberto, he and Rafael feature on the betting markets purely to take cash from the gullible.
Jose Mourinho fits the profile of the Benitez and Martinez stories. He is pure 100% show business, a bankable commodity – if you and a journalist or a bookmaker.
What I know for sure is that Celtic want the treble and will do no more than send out holding messages until after the Scottish Cup Final. This is a chance to record another remarkable historic achievement, the Treble, Treble.

A refereeing performance is one thing, systemic cheating of a member club with the acquiescence/support of a governing body is another.
As a shareholder, our directors have a duty to protect our investment in the company (particularly if the company has lost out to the order of millions of pounds on account of a 3rd party’s (in)action).

In my time, we have had three very successful Managers: Stein, O`Neill and Rodgers.
Comparing these three in different worlds is no easy task. In spite of that, Big Jock was so outstanding I would think everyone would agree that he was the best.
Although much later than Jock, Martin`s era was also very different from the money mad world of football in which we now operate. Even so, it is obvious that he did a very good job as Celtic Manager.
Most recently, there was Brendan and it is unarguable that he did a fantastic job in Scotland.
Three great manager. One idolised; one greatly respected and one loathed by many.
Does the nature of his departure put him so far below the other two? Especia;;y as NO ONE on here knows the real circumstances behind his decision to leave.
One more point.
I feel most of us would have been happy with Lennie replaacing Ronnie but, having been spoiled a tad by the appointment of Brendan Rodgers,many now want a Manager of the same calibre.

My guess is that the `Passing Goalie ` phenomenon has become so important to Celtic that Craig`s excellent shot-stopping ability was overshadowed by his relatively poor distribution.

Re Craig Gordon, I believe he is still injured and rehabilitating his knee injury
And re Cup Final tickets, unsuccessful in the second ballot, not happy at all. But holding these games at a stadium smaller than our own will always present a problem.
Now, if they’d held it at Murrayfield, capacity 68,000, even taking 8000 for the prawn sandwich brigade, we’d have got at least 30,000 and I’d be significantly, nay exponentially, likely to be a happier chappie than I am this morning.

De Vries will be released and we’ll see who Celtic replace him with. As of now, David Marshall will be a free agent.

Brendan was composed and selective with his comments throughout his tenure.
When it came to comments on referees he normally skirted them (presumably in the belief that our team was good enough that irrespective of the level of refereeing we would still sweep all before us; in that regard he was correct).
However, as a rule, I don’t like the Tony Mowbray ‘take it on the chin’ approach. Although I do enjoy and believe the best approach is to be far better than our competitors so as to negate the effect of officials.

In European games Rodgers was an abject failure. A flop.
He was fortunate to be managing Celtic when the standard of the Scottish league was at al all time low and the financial gulf between Celtic and the domestic competition was at an all time high.

The manner in which Brendan left is unfortunate, but you can’t re-write history and say that he was a fortunate manager for Celtic (and imply that he would not have succeeded in other eras).
Firstly, Celtic didn’t suffer any Sion/Bratislava/Legia/Utrecht under his tenure. AEK are a different kettle of fish; they were Greek champions (albeit not great); we faced them when we had injuries to all our strikers and off the back of a disappointing transfer window (Jack Hendry was starting centre half in both games) – and it was a narrow 3-2 on aggregate having out played them. The other games above resulted in some very embarrassing defeats.
Secondly, Brendan still managed 2 CL group stages out of 3 seasons (having been out in the cold for a couple of years), as well as 2 seasons of post-Christmas European football. We had some great performances/results along the way: Zenit, Bayern and Leipzig at home; Anderlecht and Rosenborg away. His problem was his obstinance to adopt a more defensive approach against the super-clubs which led to some heavy and embarrassing defeats.
Brendan leaves with a fantastic record: in a position for a treble treble with company accounts that are the best we have ever seen. Before he arrived we had a 30k attendance, little to no profit and a turnover of half of what it is now.
But Brendan was fortunate…

I don’t know if Clark of St. J would come to us. I was on Rangers meeja after we defeated St. J in The a League Cup at Perth, 1-0 with late Griff goal. Clark’s father or brother had been at the game ‘to see Zander’. He was obviously very anti-Celtic and thought we were rubbish.

My choice….. Pull out the stops to get Clarke and have Broonie as his assistant. Broonie is a great motivator of players and that is the primary attribute of any manager.

Can you tell me when the gulf in finances between Celtic and the rest of Scottish football was larger than it was during Rodgers time?
Any domestic success he had has to be viewed in that context.
His undeserved reputation as a saviour is largely due to the fact that he replaced a guy who should never have been near the job in the first place.
