Making money from Jose, spoiled brat McGregor

229

There is money to be made from Celtic.  You don’t need to be a player or one of the backroom staff, you don’t even need to sell flags and scarves outside the ground.  If you are going through a major story drought and can attach a name to the vacant manager’s job, chances are you will create your two biggest stories of the year.

The same is true of the betting markets.  If he leaves Newcastle, Rafael Benitez (third favourite for the Celtic job), has options in China that would make him inordinately wealthy within a season.  He is not coming to Glasgow.

Roberto Martinez (fourth favourite for the Celtic job), is manager of Belgium – who top the Fifa rankings.  He will take some of the most gifted footballers in the game to the Euro 2020 finals in June and July next year.  If he gave that up to come to Celtic he would fail every professional criteria you would want in a Celtic manager.  This is simply not the time for Roberto, he and Rafael feature on the betting markets purely to take cash from the gullible.

Jose Mourinho fits the profile of the Benitez and Martinez stories.  He is pure 100% show business, a bankable commodity – if you and a journalist or a bookmaker.

What I know for sure is that Celtic want the treble and will do no more than send out holding messages until after the Scottish Cup Final.  This is a chance to record another remarkable historic achievement, the Treble, Treble.

Jose could alight at Dalmarnock Station this afternoon but he would not be getting an interview for the Celtic job.  Nothing will interfere with Neil Lennon’s preparation for the Cup Final.

Allan McGregor’s sending off yesterday was a truly awful incident but it is wholly the responsibility of the SFA Disciplinary Panel.  McGregor has been doing that all season, including against Kristoffer Ajer at Celtic Park.

The Disciplinary Panel decided not to take action, perhaps rendered mute by the sheer volume of red cards shown to other Newco players, but in doing so they established that this was acceptable behaviour.  Allow spoiled brats to kick others without consequence and they will continue to kick others.

The ‘cheer up’ song is sung by the fans of most clubs in these islands , with words changed to suit the particular target .

Yet , condemnation has only been aired twice to my knowledge , and both times aimed at Celtic fans . Funny , that. I would consider it somewhere in the middle of the offensive chant spectrum and look forward to the more strenuous condemnation afforded to some of the much worse chants out there .

Who knows? the media might even shine their morally indignant spotlight on clubs other than Celtic .

    Aye?

Memory Lane for us youngsters then :-)

Aye, but only if we replace it with that wan aboot King Billy having an army of a hundred thousand men. ??

  4. £2m gets you a more expensive man than Neil Lennon that’s for sure. But whether he’s better or not is up for debate in the future. Remember when the deid ones got Paul LeGuen? I thought they had won a watch but that didn’t work out at all. So yes it will get you a Tier 1 or 2 Manager/Coach but that’s all it provides. Success is not guaranteed, no matter who we get. por cierto

    Por Cierto,

Le Guen failed at Ibrox because he did not buy in to their inherent staunch scottish protestant ways.

  7. guys dont get me wrong i am not happy with the way rodgers left but i am not gonna be hating him, he left the building and showed little in way of respect for us celtic supporters but live to short. rodgers did do some great things while he was here too!!! Rodgers left when we were 8 points clear at the top and £9 million came our way. i dont think that mattered much to him, but he left us with a commanding lead and could only have thrown it away, hh

Brendan Rodgers parking the bus agin Man City tonite. Wish he could have done that with us in Europe.

    Totally agree.

Like my ex wife I am totally over it now.

I can honestly say that the months have healed and I look back on the former managers 2.5 years with fondness.

Celtic is bigger than all of us.

I am thankful for the BR years and he left the club miles better than how he found it so good luck to him and I really hope some of the anger and hate towards hims thaws out with our support.

  10. Ron Bacardi on

When BR left us my only thoughts were how sad for him to ditch us now, but also that he would have probably been going to England in summer anyway.

I want Man City to win the EPL. Just to beat Liverpool to it. Have always wanted Liverpool to lose ever since we were robbed in the ECWC semi final in ’66.

No I think you’ll find it was because Barry wanted to eat kebabs, chips and crisps. Nothing to do with staunchness :) But even before that bust up, the natives were getting restless por cierto.

Radgers is gone…why waste time and breath on him? Lenny has got us over the line ( or has he…is it the players of Radgers legacy ) and am feeling gr8 ;-))

Lenny’s continued appointment after this season will show a serious lack of ambition going forward, to my mind, by the bored.

Focus is now on an unprecedented treble treble…if accomplished…Lenny will be in the frame…I would draw your attention to English Rugby World Cup winners…despite and not because of clive woodward

  16. Just thinking how much I hate park the bus football, seeing Leicester set out with everyone inside their back 3rd and up pops Kompany to stick it to them.

Not a City fan but glad to see such tactics getting beaten.

Small world … at Saturday morning level (because we were all going to Celtic Park in the afternoon :-)

Lot of time for Kevin …defo one of the good guys

  18. I couldn’t believe what I was watching there….

Leicester game… They parked the bus, were lumping high balls forward in the last 10 minutes, especially so in injury time; and they went 2 up front.

And here’s me thinking Rodgers insisted they play one way??

What a peach of a goal from Kompany – a good captain – but not as good as Broony \o/

    Hail Hail ??

  19. Couple of questions

Does anyone think Brendan would have given the players a few days off after winning on Sat, with the season still 3 weeks away from being finished.

I wasn’t impressed in the way Brendan left, but will never criticise what he brought to our club, and results achieved, including financially

I have asked before – and I have no idea if Neil will get the job

Brendan took 3 others with him, Neil has only had Damian Duff (John Kennedy was there with Brendan)

So if it I should Neil, who should join his staff ?? We are 2 short on what Brendan hada

For me someone to continue the total professional outlook and drive with players, ( Davis and Driscoll performed this for Brendan) and who can develop said players

When we won the League last year the full squad went to Tenerife i think for a few days. I get what you’re saying though.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Just watched the title celebrations for the umpteenth time there up

at Pit riddy, i missed most of it dancing about like an eejit with the

princess it’s just magic when she says ” ma legs ur sore go and get

    another drink ”

Sometimes we think some players don’t care enough or try hard

enough for our club but when you watch them all cavorting about

after a title win like toddlers on Christmas morning it’s certainly not

the case, i just love it.

And what about our escape goats? two of them nominated for player

of the year with Jamesy just pipping Callum, just maybe they do care

    enough.

And then there’s Neil Lennon flying about the park like an aeroplane

Me? i think it’s time to make him the real pilot jetting along to ten in

    a row.

GARY HOOPER is on Neil Lennon’s transfer wishlist IF he becomes Celtic’s new permanent manager.

SunSport understands the free agent striker would be keen on a stunning Parkhead return.

    No thanks….

Didn’t see the City Leicester game but i am led to believe that Brendan ‘My teams only play one way and i don’t do pragmatism or parking buses ” Rodgers set his Leicester team out by pragmatically parking the bus tonight

Just had a wee look at WIKI there and Hooper has scored goals

in the EPL, SPL, European cups, national and conference leagues

and everywhere else and apparently he’s the only player ever to

    do so.

Still only 31 and sometimes good players need the right club to

    flourish.

Just maybe he could do us as back up.

    Worth thinking about ?????
