  1. Now your putting words into my mouth.

    I concur completely.

  3. Morning all

New day so wanted to take the opportunity to post a link to the latest wee item on Tony’s Huddle

    http://wp.me/p6DYht-91

All about the Charity Cycle Ride to Cardenden and a wee bio and some pix of John Thomson.

My apologies for those who checked in before and couldn’t figure out the “post a comment”.

We have removed the obstacle course and comments on stories are easy now.

Morning TRC hope you are feeling a bit better today.

    Get well to all hereabouts.

Simple to lash out. No point getting ridOF PL. DD Should be more vocal.

Weeminger, Ajax produce better players and play better football. We seldom play good football in Europe.

  5. Captain Beefheart on

We should get answers about the abysmal striker record and about the third CL failure.

Forget blaming the Malmo coach, the ref or the media or focusing on Rangers.

To be positive, we should get some decent EL games.

It was cos they buried their heads in the sand that they got a tax bill, they never questioned what their suits were doing.

We did back in the days before Fergus took over, are the same supporters saying that it was wrong then ?

We are successful cos we questioned what the suits were doing, problem today is that the club is a PLC, it is run as a business first and foremost.

I am not a board hater, I just don’t believe they are running the club as best they can, they are doing a great job of running the PLC.

They stumbled on a policy of buying cheap, sell dear, it has worked to an extent, but the waste is now outweighing the positive benefits.

I honestly believe we are on the right track, but it needs tweaking from time to time, and they have not deviated one iota from it.

With respect, why shouldn’t we be lashing out at PL…is he beyond reproach now?

Could we do any worse, with say, me in charge?

No I don’t believe we would.

You cannot exist as a football club on repeated failure, somebody needs to carry the can, that’s life.

Pl is happy to suck millions up in bonuses, but wont take responsibility for failure.

That’s no kind of leadership at all.

    It stinks.

Highly paid executives who contribute nothing….but frightened players.

  8. We might be better off without any ‘stars’ in the defence.

They might actually play as a cohesive unit rather than as a bunch of discrete individuals.

  9. Captain Beefheart on 26th August 2015 11:07 am

Do they? If their players are better why are they potentially out of Europe completely?

Actually, to answer my own point. They patently do but not in a totally consistent manner. If their recent pattern is to follow they’ll now have a relatively lacklustre period Euro football wise.

Bear in mind the Dutch model of profit through youth development has been talked about for over two decades and it therefore at least ten years ahead of us.

The trouble we got is – we just need better players than the rest of the spl to win the spl. No disrespect meant to the rest of the spl but they are small teams/clubs/ relatively skint and their players are not very good. So we don’t have to spend much to win the spl. But the European teams (we’re now talking about Europa league teams, we’re nowhere near the CL) have much better players than the rest of the spl so we cannot compete. We don’t have a revenue stream from the league we can win easily to buy players to compete against European teams. We are in a catch 22. What the hell do we do ? No idea from me. Last night was poor but can we expect to be significantly better next August – can’t see it happening unless we get lucky with some signings.

  12. Captain Beefheart on

Green Man, I believe PL does his best for us. DD is the man. Who would take over? Same with Ronny, who would one replace him with?

Weeminger, do you think Ajax have signed a guy like Bangura recently? We have environmental problems but that can’t excuse the CL ineptitude.

Who is writing this stuff for the CQN magazine?

Is it copied and pasted from some online “knucklehead with a keyboard in his bedsit” operating under a swooshy title?

Is it copy from one of your hundreds of correspondents that you have in every corner of the known world seeking out the truth and going to any length to bring it to the Celtic fanbase?

This is from today’s feature on Scott Brown – post Malmo. This could and may well have been written by the elements in the SMSM that wish Celtic embarrassment and harm. It has odiously sneering overtones and is not even remotely presenting things in a balanced way.

Report the facts or give an opinion, but to sneer at Celtic on here is not what I expect. There are plenty of other places where sneering at Celtic is a daily occurrence.

“Brown who toiled throughout (last night’s game)

The Hoops had two opportunities to gatecrash the £15million Europe elite group stages last season and blew it twice.

Now, after being 2-0 up in 10 minutes of the first leg, they have contrived to lose 4-3 on aggregate and complete a disastrous hat-trick.”

  16. Play two strikers!

We want to win home games in Europe then play two strikers.

You want to play football that will fill the ground play two strikers.

Celtic are cruising the league and we play 1 striker? Nobody will convince me that is needed. When we attack it is a 3 bla bla bla. No it isn’t you have midfield players not goal scorers in goal scoring positions.

Look at the stats we have plenty of the ball plenty shots at goal and not enough goals going in. Ronny sign another striker and play him with Griffiths.

    Well.

Finally someone who can see the wood and not the trees.

  18. Tough day for everyone. I understand why people are venting.

Scrolling through the comments this morning, I read a lot of things with which I agreed. Last night was painful. And this morning is painful.

However, this is what supporting Celtic is all about. Our history is littered with ups and downs. People have a right to ask the Board to be accountable. And the manager. And the players.

But, at the end of the day, I am thankful that we have supporters like Tony Donnelly. Win, lose or draw…..

Sadly there are some among us whose mantra is, ‘only when we are winning….’

Now, as for the football……I noticed in the first game, that Malmo started to flood the area inhabited by Brown and Biton. B&B reacted by retreating quickly as soon as Malmo got the ball. As such, we had little incisive possession in central midfield. Our pair were limited to backwards and sideways passes. At that time, I thought….their coach has done his homework.

I thought the same, when their first goal went in last night. We ended up losing 4-3, and the last THREE goals came from corners.

I think Malmo were well prepared for these games. We seemed unable to adjust.

All that being said, Cal Mac’s ferries permitting, I will be there on Saturday.

  19. The darkest room was dark……

    I’m now in the light… still a Tim…

Ronnies video thing early season was all about nurturing ,improving,

giving people time and room to grow . Helping and understanding what motivates people and moving forward together….

How does that sit with last night’s selection… and those benched.

VVD for the off to some middle ranked epl mob…tasked with holding together a make shift defence. Leave a hero ,or don’t get injured before your move.

Efe your on the bench but when Virgil goes we will look at what your best position is..

Izzy , bench ,you run up and down the wing put in some effort but Charlie’s in he offers us ?????? Free kicks ( need to keep the ball and push forward to win them )I could go on but I hate moaning…. work calls

And before you lot start this post is why I don’t comment on how the team /players perform. I know heehaw about tactics :-)

TCR all the best to you

  20. Captain Beefheart on 26th August 2015 11:21 am

I don’t know. They might have.

The point is, they’re a similar sized club revenue wise, with far more experience operating the model we’re trying to get to and they still aren’t odds on to get in the CL year on year.

  21. Still baffled and disappointed by last night’s performance. It seems like we went back in time to last year vs Maribor / Legia. It was if the team played together for the first time.

From last night’s display, all the other SPFL and Europa League teams have to do is practice corner set-pieces and pressure our 2 DM’s and defence into mistakes.

  22. the glorious balance sheet on

Has anything changed really since the start of last season?

A winnable position v Maribor thrown away and Commons chucked on at half time in the 2nd leg as we`re bereft of ideas going forward.

Fast forward 12 months and its a winnable position v Malmo thrown away and Commons chucked on at half time in the 2nd leg as we`re again bereft of ideas going forward.

What are the chances that we do likewise against a Skenderbeu or an IFK Gothenburg next season? Very likely I`d say.

Sorry mate working and can only answer now and again.

Anyway my comparison between Ronny and Henriks celebration was more to do with the criticism they both get for celebrating, seems to me we ain’t aloud anything other than a brisk trot back to the centre circle after we score, and when Celtic fans jump on board with the criticism as well it rips ma nitting.

Your other points are personal and I respect your choice mate.
