Manager and team must show stoic unity

1148

You can train to be a football player for years, hone your skills and work on your fitness, but there are situations you can never prepare for until you are in the spotlight.  Yesterday Mark Wilson had to field questions about his team-mates’ performance and his manager’s position, after another abject performance which drew criticisms from Neil Lennon towards the players.

Mark gave a textbook response to the BBC, “I don’t like slagging my team-mates off but we have to do better.

“Football is a result-driven game but we don’t want that [Neil Lennon sacked].  We are firmly behind the manager and we love working with him and the coaching staff.”

We should be in no doubt that harsh words are being spoken in the dressing room and team spirit must be awful, but the outside world need to see stoic unity.

I actually think I know what you’re talking about.

It’s the big difference between a fan and a supporter though.

  2. serge

Safe journey and apologies if I sounded a bit off earlier.

Im just a bit frustrated like everyone else at the moment.

    Hail Hail.

Seanbhoy..I’ve been at Celtic Park from the late 60’s. At the time we beat everyone off the park. And thats everyone. I was too young to appreciate just how good Celtic were back then. I remember the 68 or 69 semi against Greenock Morton and when they scored first I burst our greetin’! So I’ve watched all the teams and managers since then with all the good times happy and sad and as much as yesterday was sore then nothing changes. I am the luckiest man on earth to be a Celtic fan. We all are. HH.

  4. I won a few bob yesterday due to a couple of decent trebles coming up, and I also coinded it in with the hun winning, in play betting, I lumped the lot on Celtic to win the league, only got 9/4 but it will pay for something come the end of may.

They are going to suffer a loss of form, more injuries, and the sale of all their decent players, it’s a no brainer for me.

Motherwell were 175/1, didn’t even think about throwing a pound away.

We will click again, then watch us go.

  5. This is murder. It is absolutely appalling that Celtic should be in the league position that they are. This is the SPL for gods sake! Neil Lennon has definetly lost some of his spark from last season, and no wonder. What the guy went through was incredible. This season he has been unlucky with injuries and a severe loss of form, desire or even interest from a number of players. He also looks as though he is alone in the dugout. It was Lenny who hand picked these guy’s and he must have seen something in them, but what? I believe he has one week left. Lose the next game and it’s good night. By the way he can’t come out with the crap that he will “out” the players who are not giving 100%. No manager with any experience would come out with such garbage. If he hasn’t lost the dressing room yet then he will very soon.

    This is not working!

  6. This title is not over. Too many people on here throwing in the towel already. Yes we have a few issues to say the least but so do they. The criticism of Neil Lennon can be justified but he can also be defended just a s easily. If Lenny had been backed by the and we had invested in the his first choice players we would not be having these discussions. Neils number one target in the summer was Shane Long. We could have had him for £6M and his current wage at West Brom is within our a ility to pay. He has been a huge success at West Brom and yes he would have come if we had made the offer.

Lenny knows a player as he has proved. Charlie Mulgrew is one of his successes. Charlie is one of the few who have had a second chance at Celtic. I often wondered why we let him go as a youngster when I sen him playing against us. But then I was not seeing him at training every day. I think Charlie had a wake up call when he left and realised just what he had lost in leaving Celtic. Now that he is back he won’t give up his place without a fight which is why I would happily see him wear the arm band every week. Lenny also brought us Izzy and Kayal who were our 2 best players last year.

The big decision has to come from the board. Do they back Neil or bring in a new face and back him. The reality is down to money either way they have to spend. I for one would prefer they back Neil, first in January and then big time in the summer

We appear to have two camps one camp who still think our current structure will work and another camp who dont think it will improve and changes should be made. Now to me thats fair enough but we are all Celtic supporters and want the best for our club neither camp know the real situation at Celtic Park so are entitled to there point of view but falling out with each other and insulting each other is just plain wrong.Football is all about different points of view and only time will tell which camp if any has it right. However, it sure hurts that Rangers could go into administration and be deducted 10 p0ints and would still be ahead of us and that is not progress in my view.H.H.

Lennon is an extremely articulate individual we know that much – is he an assistant or is he a manager in his own right?

What makes an assistant different from a manager?

2 fairly pertinent questions I am sure most here would have very differing opinions.

im just stating facts mate yet people jump on my back as if im the one turning my back on the club.

we are losing fans and like i said this morn its either because of the state of scottish football or the direction or board has taken us down since 2004.

i know for a fact people are losing interest, i want to know why

    HH, serge

Greetings.I still think that we will win the treble, albeit as a result of the huns being deducted at least 10 points, due to their cheating and scheming.

That isn’t our fault,it’s their problem.

Depressed as i am,i would much rather be in our shoes than be in their shoes.

I see Gollum was up to his tricks again yesterday – it backfired in him though – maybe if he had sent wee Daisy packing after his vicious assault on the Don’s player,Daisy would not have done more damage to the ligaments.

    Yo-Ho-Ho!

  11. Serge

Celtic supporters who travelled home and away for many years who now look for the Man Utd or Liverpool score first?

As we say in Glasgow, “heard it!”.

Celtic is not something you turn on & off like a tap. It’s a way of life, it’s part of who you are, it’s not something you can change even when the most extreme circumstances are encountered.

So, whilst I cannot begin to contemplate any circumstances in which any genuine Celtic fan could change alliegiances, I’ll stretch my imagination to accepting that your proposition is accurate and say good riddance and hope that when the tide turns as it inevitably will when we do the right things, I never have the misfortune to breathe the same air as these fakers inside Celtic Park.

the reason I disagree if you wiped the points from the board now – or even if you wait until Xmas and wipe the points from the board – Rangers will still win more points than us from that point until the end of the season

  13. seanbhoy69

no need for apologisies mate, if anything it was me who reacted the wrong was as i did to ElDiegoBhoy

it just felt like i was being attacked for stating facts about other celtic fans.

we are all in pain and like i said it brings out the worst in us.

believe me id rather argue with a tim than bail out and join any of that lot in england.

From every street in Glasgow we’ll proudly make our way to a place that we call PARADISE and this is what we’ll say…………………….over to everyone on…………Celtic Celtic that’s the team for me. Mon now …sing up!!! HH.

  15. Having read all of the comments since the Hibs game, its clear we have division whether the problem is the players or the way they are structured to play by the Management.

As we have experienced many times to our cost if the so called ” Pub Teams” are organised and play to a plan, irrespective if its Celtic or Real Madrid it is tough to break down, even if the individual players are not as skilled ,or expensive as their opponents, the strength is in the organisation, and that is what we lack.

Iwill re-state what I have said many times, before it became fashionable,Gary Hooper is not kicking a ball,he is only as good as when spoon fed by Stokes et al and yesterday he failed the one opportunity he had,add to that a shocking attitude and a huff on behalf of his pal Commons, then he should be consigned to the bench from where he can think about his Olympic appearances.

A nobody who by signing for us,has gained prominance,a return to obscurity should be first orders Monday.A.M.

  16. IMHO , the WGS years have given PL a false sense of security. The amazing success (we used to get into the CL knockouts!) made him think a small amount of consistent investment was feasible. The last three years have shown that to be complete borrocks. I can’t quite explain WGS’ successes -a legacy squad, team spirit already there, a canny manager. I hope he doesn’t blame BTM and think ‘if only we can get it right again’. If he does, we might aswell move to the Eircom now to avoid the pain. Even if he does realise it to be balls, we have a long road ahead as the squad is in a mess – snake’s and others’ posts go through that in great detail.

    Total Borrocks!

  17. ElDiegoBhoy

thank you, its 5 star until i step outside and thats where the paradise ends.

for reasons i cant say on here i really have to get out of that place asap

id happily send you a few pics of the place if you want to get my add from paul

  18. Well said James.

At the minute I’ve got a leg in both camps I think.

Still, I won’t give an inch and the team in place will get my backing. I just hope they have as much fight in them to match the fans

    No.

For a start,we are going to destroy them at Parkhead at the end of December.(I will bet you any money you want)

That’s another 3 points on top of the 10.

My only criticism of Lenny is that he refuses to play the 4-5-1 formation. It’s doesn’t have to be negative, cautious or whatever. That’s probably due to the demands of our fans, whom insist that we start with 2 strikers.

  20. no apologists

I knew a guy who was a Celtic fan as a kid and then turned into a Man U Fan in the 90’s.

Don’t know if he switched back in the ONeill years, haven’t seen the guy in donkey’s years.

    They do exist I’m afraid.

  22. And in other news – A football player who yesterday injured himself while committing a horrible tackle on an Aberdeen player,

in which was actually a red card offence, may be out of action for 10 months.

£6m for shane long …….. playing for a team at the same level as Scunthorpe where we got Gary, so he would solve our problems …….

Charlie ….. living the dream, provides effort but very average …….

……. forget who the manager is ….. just watch the games objectively as possible ….. we are really really struggling and it has nothing to do with the board not buying a star (?) striker …. or anything else ……. it is down to ourselves being umpteen points behind Dignity and what 4,5,6 can’t even remember behind Motherwell………

…….. this will not turn round as it is either the managers fault or that the manager has signed a bunch of players who cannot cope with our expectations or it is the strategy of signing ‘promise’ which ends up with a team that are too young ………..

…. it is deeper than a few signings not turning up……..

…. the whole place needs gutted , question is do we wait until dignity implode or do we get our agony over with first ……..

…. if Dignity do not announce administration with the international break coming up, then they will struggle through to Christmas and do it then when the tax case is likely to be completed.

Possibly, but I have gambled all my life, and not just at the bookies, I tend not to throw money away at the bookies, being retired at an early age I have much more time on my hands these days, and I spend much of that time studying how to take money off said bookies, I only bet on football, I virtually never bet on the EPL or the SPL, the huns are easy to make money from when you bet on them in play, especially when they go a goal down early doors, invariably the get the dodgy decisions that help fill the coffers.

Being retired at an early age is due to in part the money I have accumulated over the years from said bookies. I would be one of those sensible gamblers, never chasing the dream, if I bet a pound and end up with a 10p profit I am happy, and any time I made a tad more than 10p, it was never gambled away, started with a set amount each season, only one season in the last 25 have I lost my stake, 3 seasons left with less than my stake, every other in the black. It’s a job.

Tell you what, I bet you a cyber pint I am right that we win the league:>)
