Manager and team must show stoic unity

1148

You can train to be a football player for years, hone your skills and work on your fitness, but there are situations you can never prepare for until you are in the spotlight.  Yesterday Mark Wilson had to field questions about his team-mates’ performance and his manager’s position, after another abject performance which drew criticisms from Neil Lennon towards the players.

Mark gave a textbook response to the BBC, “I don’t like slagging my team-mates off but we have to do better.

“Football is a result-driven game but we don’t want that [Neil Lennon sacked].  We are firmly behind the manager and we love working with him and the coaching staff.”

We should be in no doubt that harsh words are being spoken in the dressing room and team spirit must be awful, but the outside world need to see stoic unity.

Seanbhoy69 Fella you are indeed correct we do have a manager at the moment but for how much longer? H.H.

  2. Lads if you remember philmacgiollabhain posted last year that they offered to settle on the cheap and it was declined so relax…

I don’t understand this dressing room bad vibes,to me its nonsense and highly immature if their are players who have took the huff,I don’t care what the issues are,a right good kick in the Haw maws to anybody that’s causing this carry on,the manager is the boss, what he says goes,I can’t stand this idea of bad man management caused by skating players publicly, they need to feckin grow up and be counted, everyone of them.

On the tactics,I’m not gifted with their finer points but Neil came in and got some of his best results in 4-5-1 and I don’t know why he doesn’t use it more regular,we need Commons and Broon back, play Stokes up on his own and stick to it best we can.

    Come on Celtic,wake up ffs!

  5. StMichaelsBhoy has suggested a Dave MacKay figure. Around that time, many teams had such a player: wee Bobby Collins at Everton, Johnny Giles at Leeds, wee Bertie with ourselves and WGS again at Leeds to name a few. Whom could we attract to the SPL??

In the course of 90 minutes confidence can turn an average player into a good player and conversely losing confidence can turn an international defender in to a shambling wreck.

Celtic park is an unforgiving place some have the temperament to handle criticism an still have the courage tae perform eg Aiden.

    Others need help an encouragement.

Young players alongside other young players

    Young players alongside experience.

    The mix isnt right.

Ah keep coming back tae it.

Last season head tae head Neil Lennon got the better of Rangers most successful manager lost the league narrowly.

Neil needed and wanted a spine for the team he has had tae make do.

People will say ah but we should still beat Hibs.

See when yiv got an underlying problem it sometimes surfaces ,too many times this season its surfaced.

Lack of proper investment Goalkeeper Centre back Centre forward.

I can`t answer you that mate but what I can say is that Neil Lennon, and our players, will

receive my support on Thursday and next Sunday and everytime they represent my Club .

It doesn`t mean I am happy with things just now it`s just what being a Celtic supporter means to me.

  10. i personally dont have the time to do it but can someone please do a simple question on here and if it takes a week so be it, everyone using this site please answer 2 questions, 1 – do you back the board or not, and 2 – do you back lenny or not. at the end of the week lets see what the percentages are. and if people on here use other sites please ask the questions on there aswel

  11. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Lennybhoy 20.10 If im reading you correctly you are saying PL is the problem if that is correct the supporters must do what is required to have him removed. The way we are going a good crowd at Celtic Park will be 25,000 and once D.D. feels it in his pocket he will take action believe me.H.H.

Doesn’t really work though does it?

How many hunterlopers on here want rid of our manager?

  13. PL is not the problem. He is carrying out the wishes of the board. Can’t you see that?

Replace him with whom? The Tooth Fairy?

  14. Ulysses

“Celtic (Fortunately or unfortunately) doesn’t really have room for inconsistency – Martin O’Neill knew this, Gordon Strachan had to learn this and Tony Mowbray… well enough said there.

But Neil had consistency did he not? ”

I appreciate your judgement in keeping details off the blog. I am also encouraged by your thought that Kriss Commons will return, hopefully with last season’s form rather than this year’s.

As for the quote above, I think WGS’s 3 out of 4 leagues won is statistically more consistent then MON’s 3 out of 5.

Anyway, Neil’s team showed great consistency last year. Apart from losing Izzy, the only other major changes have been a large injury list and some off form players (Kayal & Commons).

Now, I know when the fans turn on you, nothing can save you from that inevitable conclusion. All the management and fans can do is take a leaf out of Mick McCarthy’s book and adopt a siege mentality. Block out the press slander; ignore the crowd pressure. Just step up to the mark, supporting your team mates by pressing hard when we lose possession and breaking forward in support when we have it. Allow and encourage a few risks to be taken and promise to support each other until the corner is turned or the sacking decision is made.

I will be there on Thursday and next Sunday regardless of result. I have had to listen to that attitude be dismissed as blind faith, acceptance of mediocrity, compliance, and lacking in all manly virtues today. I think those protesting most loudly do not understand that stoicism and resilience do not equate to taking it on the chin. It is about accepting you have been punched and preparing to land the next blow yourself. It is not about sacking your trainer because they failed to warn you that being punched was one of the likely outcomes of stepping into the ring.

Our forefathers had much worse with which to put up. I do not want to have to endure what they did. But equally, I do not want them to see me greeting after every setback.

Not sure who you were supporting today. I backed Rangers (-3pts) at 7/4 and Jamie Clarke at 9/2 to score the first goal so I was a happy clapper in Casement Pk. St Gall’s found there was nowhere to hide today as the Cross men did a bit of heavy hitting. I couldn’t believe that St Gall’s could be so weak at midfield. Wouldn’t it be great to see Celtic adopt a route 1 approach like Cross. Wee Jamie is a cool kid. I heard him being interviewed after the game on Radio Ulster. After being asked to describe his goal the commentator said to him, “I suppose you were relieved to score that goal after being scoreless in the Armagh final when Cross scored 2 – 23?”

“Not at all, didn’t I have credit for assists for 1 -17 in that game”

it would be nice to see what percentage of people are for or against the board and who are behind lenny and who are not.

lets get a bit of honesty on here and lets see where people stand.

its the same old same old every week, lets see whos for and whos against once and for all.

I know we have a manager – and i have written on many occasions how Lawell needs to handle the situation with dignity

Neil deserves our respect – he and his family have been put through hell

But – IMO – we are not a team – it hits you in the face every time you look at us

Imagine the consequences of doing nothing

THEY go into administration – get a 10 point deduction sell half their team and win the league

Not my idea of a happy ending

I love Lennon (for the record I did not want him to get the job in the first place as I was fearful that the job would ruin him !!)

But its not working – we both know that – something has to change

You cannot tell me that THEY are 12 points better than us and that they have a better team ? come on

And you definitely cant tell me that St Johnstone Hearts Kilmarnock to name a few have a better team than us

We need a big strong talented manager

    I want Mark Hughes

this does not mean I hate Neil Lennon

There are a lot of problems at our Club not least with the way our CEO conducts the business for our Club and yes, I believe there needs to be change of strategy on his part. However, it will not change and to get rid of him would take an epic effort of the proportions of The Celts for change campaign…

That is not the fault of Peter Lawwell.

for 3 years i have met tims at work, mates etc etc who now no longer go to parkhead, i know people who now look for the man utd or liverpool score instead of celtics, thats why i ask the question.

lets get people opinion on her once and for all eh, lets see where people stand.

the support is devided over the board and has been for years so me asking this question does not devide anything mate, its not me who is making celtic die hards follow other clubs
