Manager and team must show stoic unity

1148

You can train to be a football player for years, hone your skills and work on your fitness, but there are situations you can never prepare for until you are in the spotlight.  Yesterday Mark Wilson had to field questions about his team-mates’ performance and his manager’s position, after another abject performance which drew criticisms from Neil Lennon towards the players.

Mark gave a textbook response to the BBC, “I don’t like slagging my team-mates off but we have to do better.

“Football is a result-driven game but we don’t want that [Neil Lennon sacked].  We are firmly behind the manager and we love working with him and the coaching staff.”

We should be in no doubt that harsh words are being spoken in the dressing room and team spirit must be awful, but the outside world need to see stoic unity.

    It wasn’t the Hearts game.

There is no smoke without fire.

Yes, the story has grown legs but trust me when I tell you there is a story there.

    Things are wrong.

Least of all players relationships with the management staff.

It cant all be Neil Lennon’s fault, the players must take some responsibility, an unreliable defence, an inconsistent midfield, and a forward line that regularly fires blanks, not a good mix.

The forward line in particular clearly needed strengthened in the close season, we got rid of Murphy instead of Samaras, both should have gone but of the two Murphy was the better option. We then sign Mo Bangura who I’d never heard of before and its unlikely once he leaves us we will ever hear of him again.

Whoever made these decisions is culpable and should do the honourable thing by as a minimum acknowledging their guilt. Meantime, I’ll be cheering on the tax man, he’s our last hope of if we are to have any chance of stopping 4 in a row.

See when we’ve passed it back from midfield to defence a few times, then the defender looks up and sees his team mates standing beside (hiding) an opposition player and he chips it forward to no one in particular, it sucks at my spirit.

    SFTB wrote fair comment.

    SFTB , thanks for that.

I think that Rafal Murawski from Lech for example is much useful and better player than Scott Brown is. Our keeper Kuciak is much better than Forster. Their wages I suppose are less than half of those Celtic players get.

  6. Meant to add, if Lenny believes that these players aren’t putting in the effort (a pre-requisite for pulling on that jersey) he should drop them pronto. If their place is taken by an under 19 who shows complete commitment but isn’t up to it ability wise, I for one would be ok with that.

10 Million when the taxman can get 50?

    That seems fanciful.

Good sources had them in administration last week as well.

I simply don’t understand how they can fail to pay off HMRC with administration.

when i compare a moderate hun team who charge about giving 100% effort every game to our sand dancers who regularly swan about during the match ….really P`s me off

frankly the lack of effort is the most concerning aspect

You’re pinning your bubble bursting on the Hearts game. I can assure you it wasn’t the Hearts game.

I would also go as far as saying the story and Kris Commons not playing are not linked. At least not in the way you would hope to reason – because Kris did indeed play in the Hearts game.

That Celtic hub article is nonsense. They are going into administration because they can’t pay their bills without the big tax case. They definitely can’t afford to pay an extra ten million to settle the case.

    This game needs a goal

If a Brazilian had scored that goal we’d be raving about it for days.

    Good post.

Ah thought after the Kilmarnock gemme that Kayal wis a non trier an had fallen out of love wae Celtic, the next thing he signs an extended contract an ma theory goes up in flames(is it up in smoke down in flames ?)anyway ah wis left feeling that ah kin no longer trust ma ain eyes an judgement.

Same wae yesterday, applying the 45 years or so regularly watching Celtic teams an having a feel for how things should go ah turned up thinking this wis it steamroller Hibs pummel them.

Theory based on Hibs team coming wae trepidation after a second half mauling an Celtic looking irresistible.

    Theory down in flames again.

Things that ah still feel apply after all this time but for whatever reason did not take place yesterday.

Regardless of Scottish opposition and particularly when vulnerable

    Play the game at pace.

Play players at home that can cause damage.

In the first instance to play at pace

    requires courage

why because at pace passes go astray

    fans get disgruntled

When ah see that pedestrian pace it makes me feel that we have players who are crippled wae fear

Do the easy thing an the finger cant get pointed,

    instead of a threaded pass

    a sideways pass

    then other

then ah back pass tae Rogne /Wilson

and hoof its wae the opposition.

    nevertheless

Playing at pace is the Celtic way an should be an axiom nailed on the dressing room door at Celtic park.

At Celtic park the opposition should be set problems in the form of wide men Forrest n Paddy from the start.

Central two take yir pick Ki Kayal Vic Joe .

Sure there are more than two reasons why we got served up that displaty yesterday.

Pace and players that can hurt opponents should have been a given.

  19. gorbalstam,

I couldn’t agree more with you. The complete lack of any semblance of players trying to make themselves available to receive a pass makes me sick. As I said yesterday evening, what got to me most were the occasions when our goalkeeper had the ball and not 1 player looked at the ball never mind looked for it. Personally, I think it is the midfield who have let us down the most. Our goalkeeper and defence seem to have no option often but to punt the ball up the park, which inevitably sees it come straight back at us. We are so predictable and pedestrian, it makes WGS’ teams seem entertaining.

  20. is lack of effort the real cause?

I find that footballers, like most employees, react positively when they are clear in the role thay are asked to play. When they look around and see fellow employees not trusting their managers, the disease spreads rapidly. It only takes 3 or 4 in the group to cause lack of focus leading to lack of application, that looks like lack of effort.

There is no doubt the players are good enough to win the league, although a ten point deduction will be necessary I am afraid. I cannot say that our coaching team are good enough.

  21. athletic madrid v zaragoza starting on skysports1, effrain juarez at right back for zaragoza, thought he didn’t want to play right back?

  22. The cheapest and easiest way out for the huns is to buy St Mirren.

Change the name, change the stadium.

    No problem with league registration.

Write off the title this season. Lose your debt along with your history, but that would have to anyway.

  23. Paul67 et al

One of Tommy Burns’ great signings was John Hughes, and one of his greatest losses, or mistakes was letting Yogi Mk2 go after just over one season in circumstances I have never quite fully understood. Neil Lennon does not have a John Hughes either in his team or as part of coaching staff, or indeed anyone like him. Speak to John Hughes about the time he played at Celtic and you will know how much it meant to him then and means to him now. And yet he is a Hibee. Cant bring in any players, nothing stopping him bringing in another coach. Trust me, Yogi would light up the dressing room, so Neil, take my advice, and get on the phone!

You’ve got a point there but try and see yourself in that position. You’ve got the hoops on, your getting at least £5,000 a week, you’re not too keen on the manager because he’s playing you out of position (he’s still picking you for the first 11 though). Personally I believe I’d be running about all over the place, closing down, chasing lost causes and wanting the ball to show the fans that I am desrving of their adulation.

  27. Celtic Mac,

While I really don’t know how good John Hughes is as a coach, I have heard him speaking with great delight about his time at Celtic Park. So, it might just be the answer. I am of the camp that believes the individual players are good enough. Our problem, imo, is that we don’t play as a team.
