Manager and team must show stoic unity

1148

You can train to be a football player for years, hone your skills and work on your fitness, but there are situations you can never prepare for until you are in the spotlight.  Yesterday Mark Wilson had to field questions about his team-mates’ performance and his manager’s position, after another abject performance which drew criticisms from Neil Lennon towards the players.

Mark gave a textbook response to the BBC, “I don’t like slagging my team-mates off but we have to do better.

“Football is a result-driven game but we don’t want that [Neil Lennon sacked].  We are firmly behind the manager and we love working with him and the coaching staff.”

We should be in no doubt that harsh words are being spoken in the dressing room and team spirit must be awful, but the outside world need to see stoic unity.

    Thecelticone.

They would need more than 30 million worth of investment to last until the end of the season. The story is nonsense.

…I think it is the midfield who have let us down the most…We are so predictable and pedestrian…

You are spot on, if the midfield did more perhaps there would not be as much pressure on the GK and defence.

Our midfield and front two need to create opportunities and also close the opposition down by helping their team-mates, after all it is a team game…

As I posted earlier middle to front we are terrible.

We also need that leader on the park.

So simple when you think about it, let’s get it done…

“It’s not my intention to convert you. Only my hope that you remain open minded.

My veracity stems from timelines not what has now become pub folklore.

You’re pinning your bubble bursting on the Hearts game. I can assure you it wasn’t the Hearts game.

I would also go as far as saying the story and Kris Commons not playing are not linked. At least not in the way you would hope to reason – because Kris did indeed play in the Hearts game.”

Believe me I am open minded to the idea that relationships are troubled. And yet there is as much contrary evidence in watching the squad train and warm up, that there is the necessary light-heartedness AND effort that characterises squads that are still determined to do well. Nobody observing our team train or watching them warm up could detect those signs of unhappiness or discord.

But then the whistle blows to start games and the dislocation starts.

I am prepared to believe that Kriss’s failure to re-appear following his RC suspension may not be entirely down to the reported injury but there remains a variety of rumour that cannot be true about the whole scenario.

I ask again, are you sure that the version you have is the definitive one?

I can accept there is no smoke without fire but there remains a world of difference between an extinguished match and the aftermath of Hiroshima.

I am intrigued as to where they got the money to pay this months wages, and s69 said that the police had been paid also, so someone somewhere is funding them.

  7. The question has to be asked.

    What is poverty.

I have just burnt some toast and scraped it. They were my last two slices. The last time I scraped toast was when I got free dinners because we were very poor. Although it turned out that I was wrong.

I got in the free dinner queue because anyone whose father wasn’t working was entitled. When I told my mammy she went ballistic. My dad was on holiday.

I do get comfort from this blog – some make me mad and some make me laugh – but I know we all feel the same pain

My point about anything and everything – the only thing that matters to Celtic today – is winning the league this year

Everything else follows on from winning the league – but most importantly – it obviously means THEY don’t

Will we win the league with Neil and his management team – IMO NO

This leaves one decision (after Neil and his team leave with dignity)

    Who do we get

I want Moyes or Lambert – not sure we can get them!!!!

    but would accept Hughes

We need to act – we are in trouble

Would their match against Liverpool have kept them afloat a little longer?

Surely they’d have made a fair whack from that game.

That is presuming the Rangers players were paid – they’d keep it quiet if they weren’t for sure.

Ah think too many of our players crumble when the pressure is on.

  16. Terry O

I think we all have our own ideas about how Celtic should play but looking for skill, panache and flair is a Celtic expectation. It needs to be tempered with a bit of grit and steel too in a Scottish setting.

My view on what we need is

    1) A DM is needed even in home games because of how we use the full backs.

    2) whether we play 4:4:2 or 4″5″1 or variants, our best flair play comes from Stokes and Hooper combo. Sammi does not do that and the early signs are that Bangura cannot do it either. Stokes & Hooper are all we have until we bring someone else through or buy.

    3) We have to break faster than we do and the crowd will have to accept moves breaking down. We get the sideways style of play because of our groans whenever we lose possession and the groans when a player stops or slows play to weigh up options or ask for movement.

  17. Snake

Im sure I read online that an agent of one of their players confirmed to the press that his player had been paid.

Why he needed to confirm that I dont know.

  18. Everything about this season suggests an unhappy dressing room.

This is just about the worst problem that can afflict a team, and the only way to remedy it is to replace the manager or ship out lots of players.

Barring HMRC intervention, the league is close to being lost. Sadly big, big decisions are needed soon at management and board level.

what does “having the hoops on” mean to your averge Israeli, Swede,Kenyan etc.. but please do not allow yourself to think we should be full of Scottish and Irish “real Tims” Fhe first priority is , are you good enough .then can you handle this ?

  21. Why are we so demanding of Celtic ?

We do not criticise OURSELVES so severely.

We don’t expect our friends to constantly satisfy our expectations.

We would not dream of showing our disapproval of our offspring, however they chose to behave.

Why, of all the people that we care for, is it only Celtic who have to match our expectations ?

I would not ever let anybody know if I was unhappy with my friends or my family, for the simple reason that I love them.

For that same reason I will NEVER say anything negative about Celtic.

  22. StMichaelsBhoy2 on

The idea that HMRC will accept £10m from Rangers is crap. NO WAY can HMRC allow ANY company to negotiate how much tax they have to pay. If they accept a £10m offer from Rangers (which I understand they were offered and rejected over a year ago), then there is nothing to stop any big company telling HMRC they can only pay £xm or they will go bust and the taxman gets nothing.

This is not simply about money for HMRC. They are not a business supplier who are owed money by Rangers and could go bust themselves if they don’t get something. This is about enforcing the tax system. You don’t pay your taxes – you go under. Simples.

HMRC might well negotiate on penalties for failure to pay, but the core amount? No chance.

  23. s69

Aye, that’s what worries me, but still can’t see anyone throwing good money away, when they can buy a cheap club in the not too distant future, debt free etc.

  24. I was shocked to hear, as Naismith was being carried from the field, a large section of the Aberdeen crowd clearly singing:

    “You’re not faking any more!”

    What offensive callousness!

    Now where’s that “sarcasm” emoticon?

Well, he is no novice, experience at Falkirk and Hibernian.

There is no consensus on here, but either way Neil Lennon needs support. I happen to believe John Hughes would be a good addition to our club at this particular point in time. No guarantees.

I have been a bit ambiguous in my last post.

For clarity, our shoes had to be shiny or the Latin master, Mr. Lavelle (suspiciously close to Lawwell) would belt us.

We did not actually polish our shoes during Latin Periods. Not when we had French to do so.
