Manager happy with preparations ahead of tomorrow

Half the battle when it comes to PR is not to score an own goal, which Neil Lennon managed to do in his pre-match press conference today when asked about the local ‘tradition’ of ritualistic animal slaughter before the game.  “You have to respect the traditions in Kazakhstan, they have a different culture.  We have our traditions.

“Our scouts watched Shakhter’s game against Astana on Friday.  We know the played a weakened team.

“We arrived early to adapt to the weather condition.  The journey went well.

“Tomorrow we play against a strong team.  It’s important to get a good result in the first game to increase our chances of reaching the Champions League group stage.”

Really looking forward to this one now.

Ian Black got caught. He may have a genuine problem. If so he deserves help.

He also deserves punishment or the SFA and his club will be acting as ‘enablers’.

  3. My reading of the Ian black betting is he was betting on his own team to lose and was betting on games involving team within the SFA ie scottish teams, it’s not the fact he was betting on football it is just the teams he was betting on that where the problem, might be wrong but don’t think players are banned from betting on football. Sorry mate he is in the super middleweight division. But I will hold him down and you can jump all over him. Fairly sure that would raise some cash for Oscar and Mackenzie just to see it.

    I agree with Keech Jackson,

“the Record knows that, in order for Scottish football to be returned to a fit state, Rangers will first have to be fixed”

A bit like my cat really.

What’s wrong with your poor cat? :-0))

  8. A wonderful glimpse into the crater-strewn minefield of footballers’ logic from Kevin Kyle this morning:

“It’s impossible to expect players not to bet as the SFA take the money from betting firms and sponsors who are involved in the gambling industry so they can’t have it both ways.”

  9. RaRaRasputin

If means there is a cause-and-effect relationship between the SFA taking money from William Hill and players such as Ian Black being able to stick to the rules regarding players betting on football matches, you are right, it is seriously skewed logic.

If he means the SFA are hypocritical, he’s right.

  10. RaRaRasputin – I wouldn’t be surprised if William Hill had given players a sign up bonus, in their role as sponsors. That’s not to say they’re complicity in rule breaking.

Most people bet on what they know. So its hardly surprising to hear that footballers bet on football.

Any reasonably intelligent player would check the rules to see what markets might be restricted. Only a downright stupid one would bet on games he’s playing in.

  11. Morning all

Slightly concerned about Brown this afternoon. He’s a shoe in to start, but was for me our joint worst performer alongside Forrest in the Elfsborg away tie, also on an artificial surface, although I understand the Astana turf is far superior in quality.

I won’t be posting my preferred line-up (and there was much rejoicing) but would like to see both Stokes and Boerrigter play a significant part in the game. We’ve been lacking a cutting edge lately, and both these players can provide it through their direct attacking play – Stokes’ footballing intelligence still gets underrated by many.

  12. Anybody know if Gordon of this parish or his bro Garcia Lorca are in Kazahkstan?

Wouldn’t surprise me, such is their dedication, the true spirit of our club.

    theweegreenman,

It’ll be shown on the ITV4 website, if that helps.

Not sure the SFA are hypocrites for taking money from betting firms and precluding players from betting.

The rules are to guard against corrupt outcomes of football matches, not a moral stance?

Apologies if stating the obvious there.

The ability of any punter to bet on a single game is quite recent, isn’t it? Were the betting rules not tightened after the Peter Swan et al scandal and only relaxed fairly recently, say the mid 90s?

It looks like a brutal stitch-up of Black; Sandaza obviously got a decent settlement so they’re looking for a better case of gross misconduct here.

    HH!

  14. I see that Broonies comments before the Scotland game are already attracting negative comments regards his selection tonight

  15. mickbhoy1888

Not at all. I regard Scott Brown as one of our top 3 players, and I’ve no idea what he said before the Scotland game. I was referring to how he played on Elfsborg’s artificial surface, then qualified it by saying tonight’s pitch should be very different.

    BTW –

    *1 negative comment

*Try addressing the poster with whom you have an issue. It’s polite.

  16. From Martin Williams in the Herald when talking about Black;

”The combative player was Ally McCoist’s first signing in the summer of 2012 as Rangers were demoted to Division Three after the 140-year-old club went into administration.”

Not long ago on here I’m sure someone had correspondence with the editorial staff of the Herald regarding the lies they report when talking about SevcoFC.

Can anyone remember who it was?

I’d like to use their links to complain about this piece of garbage reporting.

I don’t believe for a second that the players in general don’t know the rules. I can sympathise to an extent though in that it obviously isn’t/hasn’t been heavily enforced. Betting on your own matches is presumably the trigger that forces the SFA to act.

  18. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Well for me it is imperative we start the game well no silly mistakes we know very little about Shaktar but we must respect them they are the Champions of there own country.Whatever team Lennie puts out every single player must put in a shift defend from the front dont let them settle and dont defend to deep. If we can come away with a draw I think that would be a fine result as there as everyone says no easy games in Europe.H.H.

  19. A new precedent has been set by the hun management where i work…nobody to leave work early today unless you take a half day holiday!

Not having any left i’m gubbed and will miss the start.

Highly unlikely but it would be interesting if the ramsdens cup were to have an early kickoff !

    1-2 tonight. Hail Hail

  20. Oh, and I agree with TootingTim supports Wee Oscar. The no gambling rule isn’t there to support any particular moral stance so can’t see how the SFA are hypocritical in taking betting sponsorship whilst having a rule that prevents participants in their competitions from betting on those competitions.

Perhaps Sevco will be the first football club to employ players on zero-hours contracts:)

I have been a-lurkin’ though not a-postin’ over the last few days, reading the sometimes heated debate about signings, or lack of, depending on your viewpoint.

In the aul days, posters were divide into the “happyclapper” or “moonhowler” camps.

Me? I can see merit in both arguments, so I was wondering; Does this make me a “happy howler” or a “moon clapper”?

I prefer “happy howler” to be honest!!
