McCoist on wrong end of history

1325

You and I have been in some dark places.  While we remember winning nine-in-a-row by brilliant scouting, tactics and athletic endeavour, we also remember when that proud achievement was violated in 1997 by a considerably less wholesome achievement.

At the end of season 1995-96 Celtic finished second but lost only one game.  I convinced myself that our world was about to be put right.  Tommy Burns’ team would go one step further and win the league in 1997; it had to happen.

It didn’t.

Today I don’t want to talk about the reasons why we didn’t win the league in 1997, we will discuss that in the weeks ahead, but that season taught us the lesson that simply wanting something to happen doesn’t make it likely.

I thought of those dark days yesterday when I hear Ally McCoist’s rallying call:

“We’re going to march right through it

“I’m as positive today as I have been in a long time.

“This institution has been around for 140 years and I want it to be here for another 140 years.

“You’ll see what Rangers mean to so many people. We are really looking forward to the game.
“We have the best fans in the world.

McCoist loves his club the same way his good friend Tommy Burns loved his, but irrespective of the challenge he faces in the league from Neil Lennon’s awesome team, there is nothing McCoist can do to ensure his club survives until the end of the season.

When you’re on the wrong end of history there is nothing you can do about it.

  1. Today revealed just exactly why the country would be better off without the huns

    They are truly horrible creatures

    But enough about Radio Shortbread!

The huns just don’t get it

There will be loads more to come and when the BTC hits they will find that their friends in the media will disappear – a bit like the support at Ibrokes when results don’t go their way

Scottish football is returning to the pre Souness days

    The huns will be liquidated

Even the the big scam to get them back in to the SPL is successful ( and I don’t think it will) – the huns will be so hamstrung by the Ticketus deal that they will be lucky to scrap in to the top six

We all know how the huns will react to that – they will disappear

Scottish football really neds a Leveson type inquiry to find out what has gone on at the huns and the SFA/SPL

Last night Delahunt and Keevins told us that they had been briefed that a newco could get back in with a simple vote of the 5 man SPL board.

Now the rules state someone completely different

So we have an organisation already plotting to circumvent their own rules !

We need to find how who authorised such an attempted coup and why?

If the journalists were doing their job properly – they should be asking such questions

However they are so clueless or unwilling that they see genuine “scoops” and ignore them!

However I have no doubt that people at CFC are keeping tabs and would not be surprised to find out that they are keeping UEFA informed after all isn’t there a certain former chairman on the UEFA Financial Fair Play board?

Paul – when we get all our stolen titles back – should we unfurl the flags all at once or spread them out a bit?

I would hope that managers and players who were cheated would be invited to do the honours!

Minty`s paper was called the “Sunday Scot”, I think it ran in 1991 and collapsed in debt ridden failure

  5. who keeps doing it ?

Every time the BBC admin guy deducts the 10 points from the Fabric of Scottish Society (in Administration) in the SPL league table, someone sneaks back in and adds on the 10 points

Fat Jabba or wee Chico ?

  6. Can we get Fergus canonised? Right now?

Also, where and how can I repent for being a Lenny sceptic in the dark days of autumn?

Thanks, it shows how much he wanted to control the press agenda that he actually started his own rag.

  8. Larsson and McStay on

    Ouch !!!!…..

Seriously , I’m starting to worry about the “brain freeze” I’m getting from this ice cream overdose , can’t be good for you…..can it ?

James Forrest , as usual , your articles are fantastic and sum up how many of us feel. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who had fantasised about the demise of the Huns , although am I bad for dreaming of it being a full house when the gas leak caused the fireball ?

Thanks to whoever posted the Rankers (in administaration) TV clips from today. Particularly enjoyed the end clips and hearing the hurt in commentator Tom Millar’s voice. I used to deal with this cretin in business , and it gives me such joy to know the fat , hunchback dwarf is suffering.

I’m away for more ice cream…..just been told I’ll be fine as long as the excessive ice cream consumption is part of a balanced diet……that’ll mean loads more jelly too then…

    Hail Hail

  9. do we get 2 title celebrations this year ?

one which includes the 10 point deduction (bbc allowing) and one ignoring the 10 point deduction. Would be kind of the Celtic way to ignore the 10 points and not celebrate.

    Only a thought.

    Nah 2 celebrations is better.

  10. Paul 67

    Cheers.

For all of us who stood outside CP in those days.

    We have been proved right.

As has FM. The bunnet visionary.

    Today makes it all worthwhile.

  12. I would have been ragin if we had a goal chocked off like the huns second non goal, the first was well offside.

Brines reffed the game like a foriegn ref, he looked scared though, just my opinion.

    PaddyGallagher,

Absolutely. Apparently Minty lost £3million on the Sunday Scot rag. If only he found out sooner that it would only take a leg of succulent lamb to buy over the Scottish sports press then he could have saved himself that money and spent his £3m on more footballers and tax avoidance schemes

Donohoe may be batting with his heart, and no problem there, and he may well be playing to his constituents, and again there is little wrong with a politician doing that.

He is,however,a deeply unpopular MP amongst the activists for political reasons, and should avoid the possibility of alienating the few people who can mobilise CLP support in his favour.

Or,to put it another way, certain people know his allegiances and respect him for it. But there is a full stop ever time someone cocks up by playing to the gallery.

  18. James Forrest is The Emperor of Ice Cream

When reading your last two Post’s my thought’s went back to the late 50’s early 60’s thinking what my Father,Grandfather,Uncles, and all that went before me, oh yes and including myself, could only DREAM of,(for them an impossibility) what has come to pass, in the past week.May I take this opportunity to congratulate your post’s first class.

  19. I didn’t realise that Fraser Forster was born on the 17th. March 1988.

He shares a birth date with that well known defender of the guilty, Donald Findlay QC.

    A Classic.

  22. how did you avoid the Nuremburg Tax Avoiders rally today ?

As a tax paying citizen, in her Maam’s Jubilee Year, I thought it unloyal and undignified to pay any attention to the gathering of the hordes at the tax avoidance rally today.

So I took to the hills, snow, blizzards, fresh air (no Radio Shortbread) and some sunshine – great day out trekking through the snow. Not long back and after the events of the week, tonights dinner (with the Question who has to be obeyed) was easy. Its lamb. Its succulent. Its in the oven. And its roasting.

My little tribute to the easily led fools of the Scottish media circus. They know who they are. Looking forward to it. Roast potatoes also.

  23. Night Celts have a good un, perhaps some of ye will still be around when I return, off out with ton che dan to watch a bit of live music, a ska band that will be playing some magic stuff and defo ……we’ll be having a party etc TAL

Naw….I meant the RANGER’s disallowed “goal”……..do the replays vindicate the ref’s decision?

  25. Their next few games:

    Inverness away

    Hearts home

    Dundee United away

On current form and even without any player cuts they will struggle to win any of these.

Weekend of 17/18 March could be huge.

  26. So what red wine am I having with my succulent lamb ?

Treated myself to Vasse Felix 2009 Cabernet Merlot from Margaret River.

The perfect end to a pretty good week.

The day after Fergus saved us we were away to St Johnstone.

I went to the Celtic Supporters Club in London Rd and picked up 4 tickets for the game.

As we were waiting outside the saints ground just before the game a limo drove up to the main door and i was kinda pushed forward by the crowd as the car came to a halt right next to me.

As the back door of the car was pushed open I was pushed inside, head first.

I remember lying across wee Fergus knee shaking his hand and saying thank you!

Brother Walfrid, Jock Stein and Fergus McCann, but not necessarily in that order.

Let’s get Fergus to raise the flag!

    Makes sense te me!
