McCoist on wrong end of history

1325

You and I have been in some dark places.  While we remember winning nine-in-a-row by brilliant scouting, tactics and athletic endeavour, we also remember when that proud achievement was violated in 1997 by a considerably less wholesome achievement.

At the end of season 1995-96 Celtic finished second but lost only one game.  I convinced myself that our world was about to be put right.  Tommy Burns’ team would go one step further and win the league in 1997; it had to happen.

It didn’t.

Today I don’t want to talk about the reasons why we didn’t win the league in 1997, we will discuss that in the weeks ahead, but that season taught us the lesson that simply wanting something to happen doesn’t make it likely.

I thought of those dark days yesterday when I hear Ally McCoist’s rallying call:

“We’re going to march right through it

“I’m as positive today as I have been in a long time.

“This institution has been around for 140 years and I want it to be here for another 140 years.

“You’ll see what Rangers mean to so many people. We are really looking forward to the game.
“We have the best fans in the world.

McCoist loves his club the same way his good friend Tommy Burns loved his, but irrespective of the challenge he faces in the league from Neil Lennon’s awesome team, there is nothing McCoist can do to ensure his club survives until the end of the season.

When you’re on the wrong end of history there is nothing you can do about it.

I think we have all been blown away by the bidding on eBay action for the signed Celtic top in aid of the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. The auction ends today and currently sits at an incredible £5000. That’s three zeros, count them! I am very proud of you and your club.

This has probably been mentioned already but dont you think that McCoist is getting away with murder? PLG had crashed and burned by this time but Ally gets his meal ticket (via ticketus?) on the back of his goals record. If and when the huns re-emerge, a new board will punt him back to telly land. Then again, maybe not….hears hoping.

  4. Jim Spence’s blog on Shortbread is a guid read.

Spence has that genuine doric accent that is perect for Radio and his written blog certainly hits at the heart of the huns crisis.

    Worth a wee look…..

    Well done Spencey.

Malone’s is OK. Yesterday, Thomthetim mentioned a sports bar on South Bridge run by his daughter. Can’t remember the name but you could scroll back or someone might post the link. I’m off to Easter Road now or I’d do it.

I used to live in Urqhart Terrace and can remember having to buy tickets for Aberdeen V diddy teams so i could collect vouchers to ensure I’d get a ticket for the Celtic game. Many Aberdeen V Celtic game i have had to sit on my hands because i was sitting amongst the Don fans the best being when we pumped them 7-1 Big Viduka running riot. Changed days the ground used to nearly full most games and that wasn’t too long ago.

  10. Glenbuck – What a very confused libertarian you are!

I would describe myself as a libertarian, not an anarchist. I would like to see the size of the State reduced, but people still need to obey the law and pay their taxes. (thumbsup)

Barrach Obampot don’t need no stinkin’ Rangers – Craig Whyte is my comic muse. :) (thumbsup)

Does anybody have inside track on whats planned for todays party at Easter Road. I’ve been a supporter since my first game in 1961 but have to admit, the modern Celtic fan (15-35) has added a sense of humour like never before. Conga lines, pass the parcel, ice cream and jelly, Hector….brilliant. This party’s going to run right through till May!

  16. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!..OUR DAY HAS COME. on

In all of this, and ma heed is soar ‘taking it all in’, there are 4 indisputable FACTS……..

1)…..There is no way HMRC are going to be be lenient to rfc in any way….they need to go the jugular, since they are also ‘investigating’ circa 8 EPL Clubs, and they need to be very careful not to set any precedents….they need to ‘send out a message’ ……so, back in your box, politicians

2)…..If the media had done their job 5 to 19 years ago, rfc would not be in this mess, and we would have had ‘level playing field’ ….’complicit’ springs to mind….this aspect is giveng me particular satisfaction, since they know what they have done……!!!!

3)….The Celtic Board deserve enormous credit…..they ‘saw this all coming’ and protected the Club they love…..!!!!

4)……We are going to win this league (in line with NATURAL JUSTICE), and the future is very bright for the Club we love…….GOD going forward, and I am going to enjoy watching my team without wondering if the ref is going to ‘play the game’…..IN A SPORTing manner.

WE HAVE COME THROUGH THE BATTLES, AND HAVE WON THE WAR……NEIL, FANS, BOARD, PAUL, PHIL, RTC, CQN (AND ALL CELTIC ‘SITES’), TAKE A BOW….!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sorry – was preoccupied.

Yes I watched it. I thought Klitch was in 2nd gear just waiting to land a big uppercut, then realised, actually, he’s running out of steam. I didn’t agree at all with the margin of victory.

Yes he is an utter erse out the ring, I guess it’s his way of drumming up publicity!

  18. Aberdeen V St Johnstone – game is utter utter pish of the 1st order. Hurry up 15.00 so i can watch the Bhoys party, watching the Aberdeen game is destroying my will to live. Banned from going to the pub to watch the game – Mrs O seriously p’d off at the amount of booze i consumed last night – “it was my birthday darling” but she is having none of it. Sitting in front of the computer watching this dogs dodo is indeed a punative punishment.

  19. Idiots and buffoons in meeja. Tax deals to be done. All will be well

The administrators are only dealing with the present situation. Namely the £9m unpaid tax and other matters such as where is the ticket money.

    Tax for Meeja Dummies.

Clearly Hector is not going to close you down for £9m, if there is a chance you can pay it back. Hector has his caring face on.

Hector is not going to close you down for £49m, if there is a chance you can pay it back.

If you cannot pay any of this back, Hector will get angry.

Oh no Hector is very angry. He has gone in his House. He is looking for his liquidiser.
