McGuiness sabbatical somewhat frustrating

227

If I’m being bluntly honest, news that Jim McGuiness was told to “concentrate on Donegal” until October or November was not welcome.  I hear great things about Jim’s work with, and from, players he has had access to.  Instead of sending him back across the sea, I hoped he would be working more with the players we will look to, to deliver this season.

Even if his work was limited to the development squad, the reason given for knocking him into the long grass, that we get into the teeth of the season in October/November time, is incongruous.  Player development takes place before the weeks with crunch games, and the whole point of the development squad is not to win crunch Youth games, it is to develop players.

If he is as effective as everyone who works with him says he is, an opportunity has slipped. Our place in the world right now depends on us working the margins, getting an extra couple of percentage points out of the players. We’ve all seen how the alternative – “let’s just get stuck in” – works out, it leads to failure and decline.

Where are we aiming for now, Celtic? Somewhat frustrated.

One good one out, one good one in. Delighted to hear John Paul Taylor is back as Supporter Liason and Service Officer. John Paul has probably spent more hours working with fans, and fans groups, than anyone else still walking the planet. Smart appointment.

Greco Roman gazebo’s located in in Malta – any signs where you are yet?

Notice you omitted from your fishy tale, the bit about last night’s Cretian Kareoke crack.

Apparently, you were so good doing ole beardy’s bhoys “Forever and ever and ever and ever, you’ll be the one” – that a few of the local Greek gangsters burst in looking for ole Demis.

I hear there was a big bad fire at some butlins type niche destination on the banks of the mudflats. Hope the smoke didn’t make life too difficult for the ole migratin’ birds trying to negotiate their way through the wind turbines.

  3. Met John Paul this morning.encouraged by his enthusiasm for his post as Supporters Liason Officer. Clear remit to engage with fans and fans’groups in all areas of Celtic.

He’s keen to improve dialogue with us.

Mr Johnny Clash- yes, ole hippies dazed and confused in belief that Wickerman Festival [ggggrrrrrrrrrr!] had started early and they’d missed it.

I’m not too sure many we birds are migratin’ just yet -all enjoyin’ the glorious Shangri La sunshine, and the wide selection of avian treats put out for them in the ole back gardens.

Ongoing turf war in my garden between the pigeons, the magpies and the seagulls. Clear winners at the moment are the seagulls who took it upon themselves to host a particularly noisy squawk-fest bash at about 4.30am this morning. Thanks for that.

  13. Hi Paul67,

    Good Article, good point.

“Even if his work was limited to the development squad, the reason given for knocking him into the long grass, that we get into the teeth of the season in October/November time, is incongruous”.

Totally, Neil Lennon is quoted as saying… “What Jim does is build a psychological profile, work on the psychology. A lot of the kids are immature and I think it’s innovative what he does, it’s ground-breaking for us and I believe we’ll see the benefits of it.”

Surely if you are dealing with these kids psychology, if you can’t be constant you must a least be consistent. Regular sessions must be key to achieving results and it’s the close season when downtime and distractions can lead to them picking bad practice and habits back up.

These youngsters will be focused enough when they have a game to concentrate on, by that time the preparation time is over.

My understanding was Mr McGuinness was instilling a positive all encompassing life-style attitude into the bhoys. Several months of potential back-sliding before the start of the Season seems to make little sense.

    Hail! Hail!

BSR- have dastardly Sevconians airbrushed out wee Christina’s shamrock in that pic?

  15. Clinko,

Naw, if the board were going to do anything about the cheating they would have, from all the evidence so far theyve done nothing and are happy for the club to be victims.

I have no doubt the ghuy John Paul has the greatest intentions.

The crux of the matter is, what are his paymasters intentions and what can be do about it if they are not the same ?
