McGuiness sabbatical somewhat frustrating

227

If I’m being bluntly honest, news that Jim McGuiness was told to “concentrate on Donegal” until October or November was not welcome.  I hear great things about Jim’s work with, and from, players he has had access to.  Instead of sending him back across the sea, I hoped he would be working more with the players we will look to, to deliver this season.

Even if his work was limited to the development squad, the reason given for knocking him into the long grass, that we get into the teeth of the season in October/November time, is incongruous.  Player development takes place before the weeks with crunch games, and the whole point of the development squad is not to win crunch Youth games, it is to develop players.

If he is as effective as everyone who works with him says he is, an opportunity has slipped. Our place in the world right now depends on us working the margins, getting an extra couple of percentage points out of the players. We’ve all seen how the alternative – “let’s just get stuck in” – works out, it leads to failure and decline.

Where are we aiming for now, Celtic? Somewhat frustrated.

One good one out, one good one in. Delighted to hear John Paul Taylor is back as Supporter Liason and Service Officer. John Paul has probably spent more hours working with fans, and fans groups, than anyone else still walking the planet. Smart appointment.

Does a new liaison man mean there is now a buffer/another layer between supporters and the board?

Gordon J- what do you think Salmond would have done with his flag if A.Murray had lost?

Would he still have waved it in support and consolation?

Right enough, success has many fathers, failure is an orphan.

  11. I believe we have the manager to thank for the state of current finances more than anyone else, that’s right the corner bhoy, it’s him that put the team on the park, it’s him who guided us through the CL last season to make those financial gains. If that had not happened we would not be in our current position.

  12. Murray out & Easdale in and The Cardigan stays and continues to draw his stipend. Integrity he wouldn’t know what it is if it came up and bit him in the arse.

I simply reminded you who the parents of all f*** ups were when you quoted both in your presumption and assumption that the support influence would lead to the downfall of the club.

There was no malice, simply challenging your presumption and assumption

  16. It has been a great weekend, got our new Celtic tops, and fantastic results for the Lions and Andy Murray. Can’t wait now for the bhoy (21!) and me to go to Berlin for the weekend and see the Hoops. Is there a meet and greet planned? We are travelling out on Friday morning from Glasgow and staying at the Meininger Hotel at Schoenefeld for a couple of nights. If anyone is looking for a bit of culture, you need to book to visit the Reichstag (it is free, but you have to pre-register) – just google it, very simple procedure. Greatly looking forward to visiting Berlin again – last time was in 1999 for 3 weeks (work-related) and reconstruction underway everywhere. Should be interesting to see how it has developed since then. Can recommend Checkpoint Charlie Museum, and the Glienicke Bridge (where all the cold war spies were exchanged). HH – hope to see some of you there – we are in the standing section (naturally).

  17. Kojo,

Did I say it was awe doon tae him ?

Or was it that he was the main reason ?

Kali Spera my friends in Celtic.

Just how do you know when you are truly blessed?

I know all about the birth of your first born, second, well any of them.

The first time their wee fist grips your pinkie. We will take family, blood relatives experiences as a given. Got to worry about some the experiences I’ve had with some of my family right enough.

No, what about other things like witnessing fantastic moments, like being part of the 125 celebrations V Barca or a myriad of other Celtic related tales, scoring the winning goal in a cup final, meeting BJMac at the gazebo, you know the score, you can join the dots and provide your own examples, just reflect.

    I am truly blessed in many ways; I still have the same friends I met in August 1968 at Holy Cross. I travel and meet people of many cultures but you know how I really know that I am blessed;

when I am snorkelling, in the Aegean with my wife!

I can be swimming along, gaze fixed on the sealife beneath me, head submerged, with just the top of my napper visible above the waterline, when I see a significant something, a brightly coloured fish or an octopus scuttling under a rock. Obviously I wish to share this experience with my lovely wife so I point and say, “grrnuugff, grrnuugff, mmmnaigay”. And this is how I know I am blessed because my chosen one responds with her ,”gigrgruff, grruumph, mnnaitgay”, and we completely understand each other.

    Uncanny.

We caught an octopus the other day. MrsEC67 had spied it creeping under a rock, waiting to strike out at any passing tidbit. Now as my wife is still at the stage of turning over stones in rock pools and fishing off the pier with a line, a weight, a hook and a bit of bread, as a present I bought her a wee net so she could also chase the minnows through the shallows. By the way when any unfortunate fish takes the bait, it is I who has to get up from my iPod induced slumber to manipulate the poor piscina from the hook and release it. Anyway, quick as a flash I positioned myself in front of the rock, armed with my wee net on the end of a stick. Meanwhile MrsEC67 circled around the back of the rock. In a closely coordinated manoeuvre, she pulled the rock towards herself, the cowering cephalopod shot forward scooting water through its mantles and straight into my wee fishing net.

I yanked the net out of the water and there he was, ensnared in my wee green plastic netting.

    But not for long.

Well known for their cunning and intelligence, the wee eight limbed invertebrate bassa started climbing up my right arm in a daring escape bid, that had me shrieking like a two year old wean and creating all sorts of mayhem, running along our normally tranquil stretch of Hellenic heaven, trying to shake myself clear of this beast of the deep.

Both I and the cephalopod survived the incident, only one of us with their reputation intact.
