McGuiness sabbatical somewhat frustrating

227

If I’m being bluntly honest, news that Jim McGuiness was told to “concentrate on Donegal” until October or November was not welcome.  I hear great things about Jim’s work with, and from, players he has had access to.  Instead of sending him back across the sea, I hoped he would be working more with the players we will look to, to deliver this season.

Even if his work was limited to the development squad, the reason given for knocking him into the long grass, that we get into the teeth of the season in October/November time, is incongruous.  Player development takes place before the weeks with crunch games, and the whole point of the development squad is not to win crunch Youth games, it is to develop players.

If he is as effective as everyone who works with him says he is, an opportunity has slipped. Our place in the world right now depends on us working the margins, getting an extra couple of percentage points out of the players. We’ve all seen how the alternative – “let’s just get stuck in” – works out, it leads to failure and decline.

Where are we aiming for now, Celtic? Somewhat frustrated.

One good one out, one good one in. Delighted to hear John Paul Taylor is back as Supporter Liason and Service Officer. John Paul has probably spent more hours working with fans, and fans groups, than anyone else still walking the planet. Smart appointment.

Forster; Mouyokolo, Virgil, Wilson; Lustig, Wanyama, Mulgrew, Izaguirre; Rogic; Stokes, Samaras

  3. Well i now won’t be able to attend the opening game of the season due to the disgraceful ko time.

Having recently got back into full time work i was looking forward to being able to buy a SB in the next few weeks. I will now not be doing that. I will pick and choose my games due to the possibility of more evening ko’s.

Is it any wonder the Scottish game is looked on with such disdain across the world when the power brokers that be are allowing this to happen?

poor excuse to not buying a SB…..would you rather a 12 noon ko? tv money dictates has done for years, so no surprise..

I hope that’s not true about Balde, the money we have wasted on strikers is absurd,we should had spent it on Jordan Rhodes IMO.

Just noticed on the BBC News Page there is a article headed – Which is the most corrupt country in the World.

Dissapointed Scotland wasnt on the list.

  10. Quick question for some of the expert punters on here – how exactly does a win-draw-win bet work?

As an infrequent punter i’m not au fait with the terms. Am i right in saying this bet pays out if your chosen team wins or the game ends a draw? only losing scenario is if they lose?

  11. I imagine its Izzy & Lustig at the back with Wilson and one of the new lads in the centre of defence and the other lad in midfield with Chaz Victor & Rogic. However there are so many potential defenders in that line up any set up is possible.

Part of my job involves me working a Sat night so yes a lunctime ko (1245 as per the last 10 years) was expected.

Get used to a lot more 1715 ko’s if Sky get away with this.

don’t really care, 12.45…3 5.45……..I will be there, understand were your coming from regarding work, but, when was the last time we went through a league playing entirely at 3? I would say at least a decade ago……

  15. Sixtwo,it’s just how the bookies phrase outright betting on a game, you only get paid if you predict the correct outcome

  16. The only reason the Ross COunty game is on live TV is because its the first game of the season and the league flag is unfurled. As with all other seasons our only other home games on live TV will be league title clincher (now that Deadco ain’t around anymore). I would guess that no other live home games will be at 5.15pm on a Saturday, more likely Sunday lunchtime, if at all.

  17. I have already bought my ST and would have regardless but I am with Ten Men in spirit on this one. 5.15 , for me, is a useless time for a football match.

Early or 3pm KOs still leave Saturday evening available . I really enjoy my Saturday evenings but arriving back in Arbroath at 10pm scuppers that.

I hate being dictated to by SKY.

  18. On my way to work driving through Brora today I had the misfortune to spot some of the Rangers players and staff walking down the road. Had to laugh as there was no sign of their fancy new bus. Had a quick look in Harry Gow’s but no sign of Ally….
