McInnes proves point with second win over Celtic

789

The clean sheet record had to go eventually, so I’m pleased it went to a good goal, not an error by Fraser, which would have been harsh on the big keeper.  Having already recorded Celtic’s, then Scotland’s league clean sheet record, the British and European records were within touching distance, but that is now a matter for next season.

Months ago, when Virgil van Dijk first suggested we could go through the league season without defeat I said we were not nearly consistent enough to achieve this.  Ironically, last night’s defeat came after a sustained period of consistent an authoritative performances, in the league.

Aberdeen will have lots of reasons to wonder where there team might go now, having beaten Celtic twice in a month.  Amid all the newspaper talk in 2012 that Celtic needed their soon to be liquidated opponent, a few of us suggested that what Celtic really need is an opponent, and that Aberdeen, playing to a captive audience in a wealthy city, were the most likely candidates.

Manager, Derek McInnes, knows he does not have the resources to compete over a league programme, but he has proven a few points:  he knows how to beat Celtic and his team are the best of the rest.

If Aberdeen can cope with the vagaries of trips to Easter Road and Victoria Park next season, four games against Celtic will take care of themselves.  Let’s hope Newco Rangers don’t nip in and buy their best players with that non-emergency £1.5m loan.

The immediate challenge for Celtic is to get back into winning form on Saturday.  League Cup finalists, Inverness, will come to make up the numbers.

Graham Wallace has revealed that Sevco, as part of their 120 days financing review, have entered into an agreement with the American restaurant/bar chain ‘Hooters Inc’ to have a new restaurant incorporated into the stadium that John ‘bomber’ Brown played for:

  2. Clive Woodward ( England Coach when they won the Rugby World Cup ) siad it was not about improving one aspect by 100% but by improving 100 things by 1%.

The very successful GB cycling coach said something very similar.

Is it not likely, then, that Celtic FC approach will be similar? Isn`t it likely that Neil Lennon and his staff will be examining every little detail to give us the greatest chance of success? If so, then some of the incredibly simplistic comments made about what Neil ought or ought not to do begin to seem a little out of place.

No doubt some would claim that I am trying to kill debate. Not at all. Simply saying that if you are going to post a very ” simple ” solution to perceived failings, at least consider that it might be a wee bit more complicated than you think.

Amido gets a game for last 5 mins as his contract is heavily biased to appearance bonuses.

Celtic Nation is being funnelled finance by celtic via corporate partner contacts, and once they are in sixth tier we will actively begin loaning players to them.

Once they are in 4th tier, we have a 2 year stepping stone plan to circumvent the English 50 mile ruling on relocation which will see Celtic Nation relocate to south west scotland for a season, then move to celtic park where they will be incorporated into Celtic, and their board will be given preferential shares to the value of 5% of CFC. This will see CFC starting in English championship, without having to give up on CL money for next few years.

  6. In the cup game against the dons we were out powered/numbered in midfield. Neil either didn’t see this happening from the 30 minute mark, or else thought our formation could counter it. We know now we had lost all momentum and didn’t really threaten them. It was very like the Morton game where Biton and Rogic were bossed by Morton’s midfield. The midfield was lost.

Last night when Virgil was sent off we surrendered midfield. A big mistake. I think this was a repeat of the cup matches, although the circumstances were different. The team itself played well with 10 against 11, but by the second half we had given too much of an advantage to Aberdeen. Deja vu?

I could also have accepted our hammering by Barcelona earlier this season if I hadn’t seen how we set failed against Juventus at Park head last February. It was deja vu, all over again!

I like lessons to be learned. I’m ok with 2 steps forward, 1 back. I worry about 1 forward, 1 back.

  7. Always rated that Benzema ever since his hat trick at the ipox many years ago -must be the last player to ever score a hat trick against them

At time, I thought VVD got the ball and the rerun seems to show that.

However he did also get the man with follow through.

I am no expert in body language, but the bits I saw of referee, IMHO suggested an arrogant individual determined to make an impact , so no surprise to see red card.

“I think it’s because they feel there is insufficient gratitude for the massive turnaround we have achieved.”

I’m afraid I disagree; I believe it’s done to give an unbalanced opinion of what is currently happening by comparing it to bleaker, more depressing times.

Ach sod it this copying etc is proving too difficult :-)

You say that we’ve been more successful in Europe.

I agree that’s one of the main reasons that I hold WGS in such high regard.

However, do you think that the standard of football and footballer has improved since 2003 for example?

It’s not. Possibly Foster would be the only current player who’d have got into the Seville team.

We punched above our weight DESPITE downsizing. Strachan, his tactics and his transfer purchases kept the Tim wolves from the door of the plc.

I don’t mind losing individual games, it happens, it’s what makes sport competitive and it will never change my desire to support the club.

However, I find it hard to accept Neil Lennon being described as ‘brilliant’ when many of his transfers have been poor eg Miku, Lassad, Murphy, Juarez; he continues to use tactics which are shown to be ineffective eg two wingers in a 4 man midfield; late substitutions that ultimately have little or no desired affect and substitutions which lack any clear logic.

Now I’m not slating the manager I’ll also recognise the many positives which have taken place whilst he’s been in charge, however, there has to be a sense of realism and an acceptance that he continues to make mistakes which he seems unable to learn from.

In fairness, from the Referee`s perspective at normal speed etc, it must have looked like Virgil did not touch the ball. Anyway, does touching the ball make any difference ?

  12. Does anyone else find it puzzling that back in the days when Minty was looking for someone to dump his debt on to, for the miserly price of 1 pound, the ‘Glasgow born investment tycoon’ was nowhere to be seen?

When RFC, the club and company all rolled into one, which DK claimed to love and wants to pump money into, was his for the taking. His so-called original investment of 20 million would easily have covered the cost.

    So, where was he then?

Truth is, he was fully aware of the true horrors at Death Mountain.

He, like many other so-called True Blue Rangers tycoons wanted someone else to wear the pain of dealing with the Minty’s mess.

    Step forward CW.

It all went so horribly wrong.

The fact that so many of the Sevconians now look to the convicted crook, the glib and shameless liar, as the only man who can save them tells its own story.

The fact that the biggest story in British sport has hardly a word printed in the SMSM tells the story about the media in Scotland.

The hidden and secretive, handshake dealings of the SFA, reinventing the rule book to save the Scottish icon, tells its own story.

One day, the full story will be published.

One day, the truth will come out.

Quite possibly, most of the main players in this saga will be dead and gone by then. Buried alongside the club they loved and worked so hard for.

I would check if that was still available as it beat the pants off any discount we were being given elsewhere.

You have to have eyes in the back of your head to deal with the likes of Murray and King.

The true source of all of King’s money has still never been adequately explained though the wee man in the SA tax office did a pretty good job.

Whether he was actually laundering money for Minty is not known.

In my eyes, Minty’s so called wealth was mostly on paper and was hugely overvalued.

Did he have £20M in cash or value to move around in a circle and actually extract from the Murray Group? Who knows?

And, if he did– why on God’s earth would you appear to put it back into Rangers?

    and lastly—– who cares?

Does anyone know if we still have a dietician working for Celtic? It does seem that nearly every player that leaves us has to work to get up to fitness levels at the new club.

VVD definite free kick – never a sending off (Ambrose – who gave the ball away – was between Aberdeen player and goal) VVD was NOT last man – terrible decision

Various comments on midfield and tactics (Barca Juve Aberdeen in cup)

In CL home or away – you do not “go for it” so it’s sensible to play 5 strong across midfield (not Samaras on left and Forest on right as this is 3 midfield ) so against Aberdeen we had 2 midfield

I can never understand playing 4-4-2 in CL or 4-2-4 in Scottish cup

If you look at the view from behind the goal, as I have done multiple times, VVD plays the ball. He gets a touch before the attacker falls over his leg.

I am prepared to admit that the excuse for a referee was behind the play and may not have seen VVD’s touch, but the linesman should have been able to help him out.
