McInnes proves point with second win over Celtic

789

The clean sheet record had to go eventually, so I’m pleased it went to a good goal, not an error by Fraser, which would have been harsh on the big keeper.  Having already recorded Celtic’s, then Scotland’s league clean sheet record, the British and European records were within touching distance, but that is now a matter for next season.

Months ago, when Virgil van Dijk first suggested we could go through the league season without defeat I said we were not nearly consistent enough to achieve this.  Ironically, last night’s defeat came after a sustained period of consistent an authoritative performances, in the league.

Aberdeen will have lots of reasons to wonder where there team might go now, having beaten Celtic twice in a month.  Amid all the newspaper talk in 2012 that Celtic needed their soon to be liquidated opponent, a few of us suggested that what Celtic really need is an opponent, and that Aberdeen, playing to a captive audience in a wealthy city, were the most likely candidates.

Manager, Derek McInnes, knows he does not have the resources to compete over a league programme, but he has proven a few points:  he knows how to beat Celtic and his team are the best of the rest.

If Aberdeen can cope with the vagaries of trips to Easter Road and Victoria Park next season, four games against Celtic will take care of themselves.  Let’s hope Newco Rangers don’t nip in and buy their best players with that non-emergency £1.5m loan.

The immediate challenge for Celtic is to get back into winning form on Saturday.  League Cup finalists, Inverness, will come to make up the numbers.

  1. Disappointed with our loss last night, and with 12 games to go I suggest we need to spend the next 3 or 4 months planning for CL qualifiers

IMHO issues we should address are :

    1) Manager needs to learn how to make better use of substitutes .

    – his formula is normally bring on one guy at 65, another at 75 , and a third at 85. As we have now seen twice, against Aberdeen, that formula or minor variation doesn’t work.

    2) There is a fair chance that next season we could need a replacement keeper & centre back, before we even think about improving the team with a better calibre of striker, and a more reliable player than Efe

    3) We need to test Pukki, Boerrighter, and Balde with 5 or 6 games on the trot, to see if they are players or passengers.

    4) European teams are wise to our threat from set pieces, and know how to expose our zonal game

Final thought, before playing in Euro games, how about paying a neutral to scout us and the opposition. We have various ‘friends of the club’ who have vast Euro experience ( Wim , Dr Jo , David Hay etc) and have a bit of free time. How about paying these guys to scout both us and the opposition in Europe.

    – What are our weaknesses, how might a Euro team exploit them, how do we compensate

    – Same for opponents.

Lastly, lastly, and I have said it on here before, we should scout referees, what will they let go, what will they be ruthless on etc etc

    Thoughts ?

  2. PFayr I will be respeldant in my Celtic Tartan kilt black shirt and shamrock tie Scots/Irish fusion!!!! Hail Hail Hebcelt

  3. King never put a penny into the Huns ever, he’s a patsy, a front man, a kinda Janny, all he did was put his name forward as an invester, minty moved and shuffled a couple of bits of paper about, and that was that, King has no wealth, it’s all on paper, he’s a well paid front man, look it up,.

  4. ThomtheTim, I always get caught out on that stuff, the Judge, whichever one, made me smile.

EmbraMike, I refer you to BRTH, if he is still around.

I’ll email WC just in case, and get back to you.

I like the idea of getting someone to scout us and point out our weaknesses as an opponent would see them. I think if the manager was to accept this and took on board what was said then he would be a better manager for it.

I agree with you BRHT, in it’s case against King the SA revenue services assesed ait’s claim against King based on a number of purchases/investments he had made. In an early court docu, ent it was stated that he had income of £18m from RFC(IL), some people ,wrongly, assumed that this was a payment from RFC(IL) to King.

It was actually SARS stating, well MR King how can your income for that year have been £65,000 when you invested £18m in RFC(IL).

My thought’s on why it wasn’t £20m is the differnce in the value of the pound and the SA rand from when he invested and when it was reported. Hope this makes sense?

    BRTH,

    I stand corrected then.

If my memory serves me right I read it that he was laundering money for Moonbeams and his cronies and the highly publicised 20m was part of the introductory deal. A sign of trust if your with me. That losing it and not getting a return on it wasn’t an issue as it was worth 2 or three times more to him via the laundering scheme payouts and the kudos and the connections bought while giving something to the billy boys was good publicity and his first love. He moved his shares into his Ma´ws name when SARS started sniffing.

    *garden = hard

    I worked that out all by masel >}

It’s a difficult one, people like you are I are in no position to call for boycotts or the like, but if I were, I would be calling for the same as you are suggesting.

The other clubs acted quick enough when their support just threatened to withhold their season book money, it’s the only answer.

We will get castigated for holding this stance, but I honestly can’t see any other way.

I don’t have a scooby as to how garden they are trying to escape, they want out, that is a given.

Just watching Galla v Chelsea, our kids did good against them.

Maybe Celtic Nation is the answer, who knows.

I have always thought it would be useful to “scout” us. I remember Charlie Mulgrew scoring with a free-kick for Aberdeen against us just before the Villarreal away game. I thought it could have been stopped if the wall had jumped. A few days later Senna scores a free-kick – again would have been stopped with the wall jumping.

  14. So you are drawn a dangerous German team in the last 16 of CL, how do you set the team up? Madrid got Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema up front and running riot. 0-4 after an hour.

They had an oversight yesterday, claiming that Man U were undefeated in Greece.

    Wrong !

In the 3rd century BC they played Olympiacos in Greece.

The hosts won 2 -1, with goals from Plato and Aristotle.

Man U got a late consolation from Ryan Giggs.

We were looking at a hotel and then malorbhoy revealed that he had managed to talk the Copthorne on George Square into putting himself and Mrs Malorbhoy up for something ridiculous like £29.

I would check if that was still available as it beat the pants off any discount we were being given elsewhere.

Guys as for the dress code — I think we did talk about Lounge Suits but I could be wrong.

You have to have eyes in the back of your head to deal with the likes of Murray and King.

The true source of all of King’s money has still never been adequately explained though the wee man in the SA tax office did a pretty good job.

Whether he was actually laundering money for Minty is not known.

In my eyes, Minty’s so called wealth was mostly on paper and was hugely overvalued.

Did he have £20M in cash or value to move around in a circle and actually extract from the Murray Group? Who knows?

And, if he did– why on God’s earth would you appear to put it back into Rangers?

    and lastly—– who cares?

  19. SFTB,

In answer to your question, I don’t know , however, domestically the trend is we make subs whilst ahead, and in Europe we do so when we are behind .

My thinking is Lenny tends to make a sub, gives the guy 10 or 12 minutes to make an impact, and if that doesn’t work he makes a second and third, invariably with same result.

In contrast Guys like Mancini, will make substitutions before half time, albeit they don’t always work.

Alternatively if we are losing why not bring on two subs at same time, so you get a bigger impact.

Last night I was really disappointed with our lack of use of subs.

After VVD went, Efe and Griff were both booked early doors and both were walking a tightrope for much of the game. With Griffiths it curtailed the natural aggression in his game.

Last night both Sammy and Amido’s introductions had the look of desperation we used to see when Paddy came on with 10 to go.
