I had a look at the story on the official site this morning about a compilation CD with various versions of the Celtic Song being released. After the initial pleasure of seeing Emilio Izaguirre and Scott Brown on their feet unaided, what struck me most was the apparent body mass of the two players we would normally consider our midfield enforcers, Scott and Beram Kayal.
Against Paddy McCourt, Joe Ledley and Emilio, not to mention men of considerable bulk, like Charlie Mulgrew, they are comparatively svelte and diminutive. The central midfield role is about mobility and football-intelligence more than anything else. How you use your weight against an opponent is as important as having the weight to begin with, but when the margins between winning and not winning are so tight, getting the physical balance right is important.
I don’t think I’ve been happy with a Celtic 4-4-2 line-up for years but playing Scott, Beram and a couple of wingers across midfield feels like an invitation for more limited opponents to bully this area, something the Highlanders did very effectively the last time we visited Inverness.
After mentioning tomorrow’s Fans Against Criminalisation meeting in yesterday’s blog I read Joe O’Rourke’s item on the Supporters’ Association site on the same subject with a mixture of horror and foreboding. The First Minister would be well advised to quickly reign-in whatever loose cannons he has roaming the corridors of power. Well done to Joe for bringing this to the attention of a wider audience.
The guys from the Alzheimer’s charity, FootballMemories, org.uk asked me to bring their site to your attention. They work with Alzheimer patients, using the universal platform football provides us all, to engage and invoke recollections. The site has lots of great Celtic stories, take a look and add your own.

Just watched recording of Murdoch with MP comm.
At one point. Louise Mensching MP apologised that she would have to leave because she had a phone call to go and collect her children from school.
Murdoch said, “I know”.

Maybe tonight’s not the night to chat about it, but i have my ideas about why that is, and hopefully we can discuss it in the future.
Anyway, despite knowing a wee bit about folk music, to my shame i hadn’t heard this song until a certain CQNer posted it here one Friday night:

You’ve a good memory UC. Yeah, I was incensed to the point of coming close to walking away from Celtic totally when they put the poppy on the Hoops. My love for Celtic took a nose dive and it still rankles me. At that time our host posted an article talking about the “triumph” of Celtic over the support who were very vocally against the poppy on the shirt. The terminology used in that article was scarily similar to Unionist-speak. I myself was very intemperate in my response to him and his father (which I did apologise for to them both) but I was incensed. I have to admit, Pauls article during this week about the politicisation of the poppy got me going again.

I am sorry to hear your news of your mother. I lost my da a year ago and just today I had sharp reminder of him. You will have good days and you will have very tough days, but gradually the pain will subside. The memories will stay with you though. Keep them close.

my Grandparents were born in a united Ireland, after partition they used the term Freestate, I see no reason not to use it.
Yea,your grandparents were born in the United Kingdom
I see no reason not to use that term
Have a bit of f%%king respect, its called THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
You’ve sung it, you’ll join in. It’s given you great joy, you and thousands of others. You know the beat, you know the words, chant it, chant it to the highest peak.
Yet you can’t buy the tune.

Now that’s a bit of quality music.
Thomtheleedstim might be able to report on how good the man was at the Irish Centre in Leeds, as when we were down there a month or two ago, we were gutted to see he was due to play there shortly :)
(One of the most well-kempt Irish Centres i’ve been in. – Very much what it should be in terms of reminding the generations about where they came from – they know how to promote Irish traditions there.)

Loving the tunes tonight, very eclectic. Posted a link to what i thought was echo and the bunnymen turned out to be the kinks. Serendipity.
Spongebhoy, if you’re lurking, hope you are okay.
I know a little of the pain you’re experiencing, be kind to yourself.

No troublemakers, not too many took part-the usual suspects were out with you or watching Ireland’s brilliant victory!
Also made a couple of mistakes in the scoring and did my first picture round without your help(obviously it was my eldest son who sorted it for me!)
Sounds like you had a good night!

CSB showed a lack of decency when failing to give me half a point for a contentious, and almost-correct answer which would have brought my score up to 50% on a pro-rata basis.
If i can be a hun for just a minute…..i should have won.

Yeah, a mad history.
On the other side of the family is also crazy stories to be told.
My family have a house on Sundrive rd, Kimmage. 6 generations lived in it.
My Great uncle died at the Somme. His brother was fighting the Brits in the Easter Rising at the same time in Dublin.
When the soldiers came to the house some months later looking for the IRA member, they started to ran-sack it.
The soldiers started breaking everything in the house until the English Captain entered.
He pointed to the Brittish uniform hung up behind the front door and asked who´s it was?
My Great Great Gran said it was her sons and he´d just been killed at the Somme and showed him the death notification letter.
The Captain turned red and shouted the soldiers out of the house.
My Great Uncle was able to come back home after knowing that the Brits wouldn´t be back.
Mixed family.
