Mike’s Newcastle incentivised for Hearts

409

On Saturday morning I opined that Hearts were a busted flush. They’d shipped 10 goals in their previous four games, failing to win any (against Hamilton, St Johnstone, Inverness and Kilmarnock). They were certainly not a team I expected to see sitting second to us this morning.

All of a sudden there’s talk of the manager leaving and players look like they are fighting to impress.

You know how this is going to turn out? Hearts, who are chasing second in the league, are after Newcastle’s assistant. Newcastle’s owner isn’t likely to be hard to deal with. If Ian Cathro gets the job, you can expect to see Newcastle’s player surplus heading north in January. And unlike the five who left Newcastle for Glasgow two years ago, Cathro will know and select each one.

Which is good, as it might give us some competition in the second half of the season. As for those gambling the family aluminium that qualification for the Europa League next season will bring in a necessary £7m?

They may eventually conclude that having one of Europe’s richest men inside the tent is a whole lot better than making an enemy of him. Just a thought.

Had you been involved, that idea would not have entered your head.

But you weren’t, so BRTH and I (and Canalamar and Morrissey) can chuckle, not at you, but at the idea Celtic planned anything other than to avoid tackling the issue.

We know that, but here we are finally where they either tackle the issue or prove you right.

I’ve always had an open mind about motivations and that change is constant and when the meeting takes place next month if Bankiers words and the assurances behind them are not borne out, then you can read all about it on CQN.

On the economics of the OF, that background has changed in that Celtic are clearly not dependent on playing TRFC/RIFC but other teams are more dependent on it which limits what Celtic can do when it comes to voting for change. I’m surprised that a man of your intellect dismisses the interdependency of football as an industry where each club depends on their being another club as a factor that influences decision making.

  2. Auldheid, from memory you stay in Benalmadena or nearby? I am heading down there with a few friends in mid January. What is the weather usually like and where is best to go for something to eat – up to Arrayo or will the restaurants along the beach and main road be open. Generally visit the likes of Panorama, SabatInis, Hong Kong Aberdeen or head to Fountain Square in Arrayo.Cheers.

The more it is dissected and argued and debated and educated, the less sleep those conniving individuals will enjoy.

Too many who corrupted our game have already departed with unearned lucrative pensions.

What about the honest hard working football supporter?

All he wants is ‘honest’ competition. He/She is not in it for a pension they are in it for love.

To the best of your knowledge – Are Celtic PLC – unequivocally and categorically – pursuing the Res 12 issues with UEFA and/or the SFA as of today?

Have they ever done it post Res 12 being raised at the AGM?

    ===================

Not to my knowledge, but that might change when a meeting takes place later this month and they tell us they have, but that meeting is to be sure of the ground on which to take anything forward (if there is agreement that such ground exists) so I doubt any approaches have been made to either.

Clear to me Celtic need domestic challenge if they are to progress in Europe. Right now I’m enjoying being caught in the abyss between SPFHell and European football, being way too good for one and no where near good enough for the other.

Personally I enjoy the no expectation approach to Europe.. For now it lows learning growth and experimentation without pressure.

However we probably need competition (not before 10iar) to really begin to build a team capable of perhaps winning the Europa Cup.

This sentiment is usually translated in to Celtic need a strong Rangers by lazy Hun loving media… We need strong competition.. I’d love that to be Aberdeen for personal convenience but I’d settle for Hearts.. A strong Rangers would be my least favoured option.

If Lenny works his magic it may even be a strong Hibs in seasons to come…

More Torremollinos but I know the Arroyo quite well as its on same train line and in January it has a bit of life about it that you don’t find on the Costa itself.

Weather can be mixed but generally you don’t need a coat during the day but should wear layers that you can remove/add if you are out when the sun goes down.

Malaga is well worth a visit. Get 110 bus on main costa road or train from Arroyo station.

You most certainly are. Its not even an idea I buy into nor something I want. I have posted links to RFC spend in 2008 that doomed them and TRFC/RIFC business cases a couple of years back but never on that subject.

Just because I can see the commercial aspect and how interdependent clubs are and how that impinges on sporting integrity does not mean I like it.

This years AGM . The full statement was

I would like to provide an update on progress regarding Resolution 12 from our AGM in 2013, relating to football authority licensing practices, a vote on which was adjourned indefinitely at that meeting.

In the past year the Club has continued to work with shareholder representatives to seek to achieve a satisfactory solution to their concerns regarding issues of football governance raised by them.

Independent solicitors instructed by the shareholders have corresponded with the Scottish FA and UEFA, providing them with information for consideration and putting questions regarding governance procedures.

The shareholders’ representatives have recently informed the Club that, having taken further legal advice, they continue to have concerns following the responses received.

The Club is meeting next week with the shareholders’ representatives to understand their concerns and to discuss how to progress matters. This is an important matter of governance relating to the football authorities and the Club will continue to work with its shareholders in this regard.

I believe the English clubs, or at least some, are on the creditors list

  29. I still fancy Aberdeen to be our nearest challengers as they are best at grinding out results against the lesser lights and that consistency will see them into 2nd place IMO at the end of the season.

When its spoken about in the press about Sevco in Europe its as if its a magic elixir which will cure their financial ills. There are a number of significant issues rarely mentioned. Firstly, there is a good chance they won’t qualify and then as reported for the first time in recent days there is a good chance they won’t be allowed to participate due to FFP legislation (That said I expect the SFA will bend over backwards and implore UEFA to let them in). However should they qualify and be allowed to participate Sevco have one of the lowest UEFA coefficients and will have a mountain to climb to qualify for the Europa group stages to make any significant amounts of money.
