Mike’s Newcastle incentivised for Hearts

409

On Saturday morning I opined that Hearts were a busted flush. They’d shipped 10 goals in their previous four games, failing to win any (against Hamilton, St Johnstone, Inverness and Kilmarnock). They were certainly not a team I expected to see sitting second to us this morning.

All of a sudden there’s talk of the manager leaving and players look like they are fighting to impress.

You know how this is going to turn out? Hearts, who are chasing second in the league, are after Newcastle’s assistant. Newcastle’s owner isn’t likely to be hard to deal with. If Ian Cathro gets the job, you can expect to see Newcastle’s player surplus heading north in January. And unlike the five who left Newcastle for Glasgow two years ago, Cathro will know and select each one.

Which is good, as it might give us some competition in the second half of the season. As for those gambling the family aluminium that qualification for the Europa League next season will bring in a necessary £7m?

They may eventually conclude that having one of Europe’s richest men inside the tent is a whole lot better than making an enemy of him. Just a thought.

  2. I don’t remember the SMSM slagging off the SFA when that dead club were cheating their way to trophies….I wonder what has changed…?

  3. Many thanks to the people who write the articles on CQN.

They are of such a good standard.

Reading through some responses to Phil’s latest article and one caught my eye.

BDO still to apply to the Court of Appeal on the “Big Tax” case.. I am at a loss to understand this procrastination. I appreciate that BDO will be “on the clock ” and that any sums to creditors, including HMRC, will be reduced. Is there no way that the Court could not consider the behaviuor of BDO to be “vexatious”, or whtever the correct legal term is? Is there not a time-bar to insigate proceedings? Seems strange. HH

  5. The SFA will ensure that there is always a Rangers in senior footie, and whichever version will be allowed to ‘inherit’ the history of dead clubs.

I seem to recall that BDO have until March, that is not informed, just something that I can remember reading, and it could be 100% wrong.

  7. Angst. There’s a huge, beautiful ruined “Hotel Angst” close to where I live. Founded by Adolf Angst, who scores an 11 on the one to 10 scale of great names. Abandoned around the outbreak of the war. One of the great Riviera hotels, Queen Victoria planned to stay there once, but the Boer War got in the way. It is just decaying, and no-one can find the resource to bring it back to life. A real pity. https://www.flickr.com/photos/timmyleavy/sets/72157625123286328/ for some photos.

Thanks for the information. Just wondering what BDO gains, other than financially, by not seeking early hearing but appreciate your reply. HH

I would imagine that there have been meetings behind closed doors with all the relevant parties, not just for this case, Hector will be telling them what is what, co’s like BDO will want to keep their future income streams well and truly open, they won’t rock the boat.

The government will decide what they want then it will trickle down to the courts via Hector imo.

BDO only care about the muney, don’ they all ?

Cheers!! Would have though Hector would have been wanting to maximise what it could from the carcass and its returns are diminishing by the day and would be seeking to influence BDO to submit its appeal expeditiously.

Fascinating. The Hotel Angst. Amazing looking building, and history.

We should crowd fund a purchase and renovation.

It could be a CQN top end retreat or Hotel…..

If the government are serious about recouping money via the EBT scheme I fear for those who participated, it all depends on who participated, there are much more than footy clubs out there who used the scheme, it could be that those and such as those are involved, so either now, or next time when a purge comes around or not, I have not a clue, just reading between the lines, but over the years you get a feeling how these things work :-)

As you say, it looks like HMRC are viewing EBTs in football as test cases for a wider attack on tax evasion. If it recoups revenue for essential services such as NHS then on , says I though some people might be belatedly regretting their participation in such tax avoidance/evasion schemes.

Would like to see court capping fees in the event of appellant deliberately procrastinating.

Anyway, thanks for your informative replies. Hail, hail

  16. ATS

In theory yes, but as we know it doesn’t work that way, I have always said that your taxes should be allocated, x amount for a, x amount for b, etc, etc, it would stop an awful lot of the fraud and it would make governing a whole lot easier imo, but what would I know, I live in a cave :-)

ever think about putting advertising on your bahookie instead of tattoos of rock stars?

It’s a ridiculous amount of additional expense for football supporters at the most expensive time of the year!

    Hope you’re well my friend.

  23. Only just stopped laughing after overhearing a hilarious conversation(sic) between two mentally challenged Huns earlier today in a local bookies.

    It went something like this:

Hun#1: “That wiz murder last night.”

    Hun#2: “Aye.”

    Hun#1: “That’s us 8 points behind those c!@#s.”

    Hun#2: “Aye.”

Hun#1: “And they’ve goat(!) 3 games in haun!”

    Hun#2: “Aye.”

Hun#1: “If they win thum they’ll be 14 in front!”

    Hun#2: “Aye…eh, naw.”

    Hun#1: “Aye!”

    Hun#2: “It’s 3 points for a win noo.”

Hun#1: “F!@# aye! How many points in front wid they be then?”

Hun#2: “Haud oan til a get a slip and a pen!” Scribbles, and answers “17.”

    Hun#1: “We’re f!@#$d!”

    Hun#2: “Aye.”

Cue yours truly stifling laughter, holding on to his aching sides and exiting stage left!

    Sides are still sore!

    HH!!

  24. Natknow

Yep £49 for a domestic game in Scotland is absolutely shocking. I wonder who came up with that price?

  25. H.T.

Trying not to tempt fate but doing ok. No attacks for 11 days. Hospital prescribed me new medication 4 weeks ago more proactive rather than reactive, so far it’s helping. Attacks not as frequent or severe.

    So onwards and upwards.

    Thanks for enquiring.

I’m guessing you will be taking out a re mortgage to pay for all those tickets.

Get Peachy Lawwell to introduce a loyalty scheme where you qualify for discounts in December. :-))) The club could pay for a ticket for you if you’ve attended x amount of games.

  26. HT

Tell him to back 4 league wins & Celtic+1 @3/1 v City – £10 should cover his 2 tickets. Remember betting doesn’t always = winning!

I loved the link you put up on the ultras and the poor soul who committed suicide.
