Missing structure, control and patience returns

188

Watching how easy it was for Celtic against Livingston you could be forgiven if  it slipped your mind that our league challenge effectively ended in back-to-back draws against the same opponents three months ago.  The regrets of this campaign are many and will last long in the memory.

One of the pleasing aspects of the win was that it was achieved with Celtic never having to hit top gear.  Livi defended well in the first half but a deflected cross and an own goal either side of the break was enough to see Celtic stroll through the second period.  We also got to see what may be Celtic Park’s last ‘Efe moment’, when the former Celtic defender made the kind of error that has littered his career, setting up Ryan Christie for the sixth goal.  Kids, Shane is only the most recent in a long line……

The structure, control and patience the team had on Saturday has been missing for most of the season.  Some credit to John Kennedy for stabilising the ship.  Let’s see what he can do next weekend.

Scottish Cup week, said Philip… watch the Celts don’t step in!

  1. According to Kieth Jackass, Eddie Howe lives in Sandbach ( Cheshire ). I thought he lived in Poole / Dorset, near Sandbanks ?

    Fact checking Kieth ????

  2. I thought this ( in Paul`s article) :

  4. Anyone know when the SFA will make their announcement re Scottish Cup games this coming wekend?

And seven Scottish players started for Celtic. Some people won’t like that.”

Why won`t they like that? Not enough? Too many?

  5. We have improved since JK took over

Players look happier, morale clearly has improved

Settled side helping, particularly at the heart of the defence, Bain, welsh and Ajer, have formed a defensive shield of sufficient quality to give us a confident base to build on

Energy levels up and lasting 90 mins, movement and passing improved

The low point before Saturday was not capitalising in on so many opportunities created

Would I give JK the job ? not yet

There’s a Sandbank near Dunoon if Eddie fancies it.

    Sandbanks off the radar.

John Kennedy might turn out to be a very good manager and had we won the league this year, then he’d have been accepted by the fans.

He’s certainly a smart boy and very articulate. Maybe the club is due some credit for standing by a player who had a very promising career cut drastically short.

Cheers mate. May 17th is a bit closer obviously, but it is MY OWN Fault for NOT Drinking in the hoose, I just cant do it especially on my own.

Thats why I havent had any drink since 9th October, the last time the Pubs got closed.

I have an Off Sales about 70/80 yards from my hoose, but Ive never been tempted to use it.

I have always preferred being in a Pub, drinking Beer, playing the Juke Box, telling stories and Lies ( especially to the Burds)…and making up my own Jokes and Banter as I go along.

I always do my best to steer clear of any Chumps/Roasters/Space Cadets etc.

In the 70’s when i drove between Portsmouth and Glasgow I used to stop off there on way at a little motel called Saxon Cross. Reminded me of Crossroads motel on Tv.

  14. Reporting the rather sudden death of a long time lurker & very, very occasional poster “NCTim”

Eddie Reilly was originally from Clydebank & after his apprenticeship at Rolls Royce in Hillington he moved with that company to Canada, then to Texas before switching to the airline industry settling permanently in North Carolina.

He knew John Divers from school & in our regular lunches would often have stories about travelling through to Celtic Park on a Friday night to watch the reserves (featuring John) play. The Dalmuir-Auchenshuggle tram I seem to recall.

Never lost his love for Celtic & it was that love that brought us together.

He was my best pal & I still can’t believe that this is Monday & I can’t just lift the phone so we can both talk mince to one another about the Celts.

Ed looked after his (still living) disabled wife for 30 years & was a devout man; he was a sacristan & general positive presence in his local church & lived an exemplary life.

He was the kindest man I’ve known & will be sorely missed by all who loved him & those whose lives he touched.

  17. No idea if JK would be a good manager, same as everyone else,so stop the forecasting.Maybe if the Board had said goodbye to Lenny after the Euro games,we would be in a better position to judge just how much improvement he made. One thing I do know,is that every pundit who knows,or has worked with him, rates him very highly.Damien Duff,Brendan Rodgers,WGS.I will listen to these experts, instead of the”Experts”on here.

We could give Howe,Favre,Keane, the job,and they could fail.We could give it to JK,and he could do the same, but it works the opposite as well.Nobody knows.Kennedy has one thing in his favor,he knows, and loves the club. With a new CEO,and DOF,who knows.Just on the off chance,he guys the Huns twice, wins the Cup,and the rest of the games, would anyone change their opinion of him.

  18. JK may be one of the best young managers on the planet for all we know. And maybe had the board and PL done their jobs for the past couple of years he’d have the leeway and patience to be given a shot.

But at this moment in time he’s done nothing in the game and the fans and the club need change and need success.

Next year really is do or die. If Rangers win again next year then we’ve let them back in and the tide could very easily change in their favour long term.

    They’ll have gambled and won.

Touching tribute CORNELIUS – saddened for your and Eddie’s family’s loss.

    Amen.

  20. Some are saying, including Paul, that there appears to be refreshing change in the team’s play under John Kennedy – to a certain extent I can appreciate that observation – however remember who we have played against in our last two games…a young inexperienced Falkirk and Livingstone, who appear to have ‘shot their bolt”.

Some say the players look “happier” – why would that be? Would it be down to Neil’s departure? Of course we know Neil is a complex character, however he has had to deal with unprecedented vitriol, attacks on his person and downright hatred from the moment he set foot in Scotland – no wonder he’s “complex”. If some of our highly paid players ‘downed tools’ because of relationships with NL, then they should be ashamed of themselves – whatever happened to playing for those who pay your wages…the supporters?

Although Roy Keane would be my choice, I have a feeling that the Eddie Howe deal is done, with only the timing of the announcement outstanding.

So five games to go to get a chance of Scottish Cup consolation and squash the Ibrox club’s unbeaten league run. In all honesty, I cannot see us winning both games at Ibrox and, I wouldn’t bet money on even one.

  21. TURKEYBHOY on 12TH APRIL 2021 2:13 PM

I don’t think anybody is forecasting – I think the fact that Kennedy is a completely unknown quantity as a manager is the point people are making. Next season is massive – in terms of us/Sevco’s long-term trajectory, the biggest for years. It’s a gamble we can’t afford to take right now.

You’re correct that any appointment is a gamble; signing any player is a gamble but you reduce the risk of that gamble by appointing/signing someone with a track record.

Kennedy may well go on to be a top manager. He might be utterly dire. I don’t think we’re in the position to run that experiment right now.

  22. JHB on 12TH APRIL 2021 2:32 PM

Agree with all of that other than the Roy Keane bit. Other than the fact he was a good player, he’s Irish and appeared in the Hoops, I don’t know why he even gets mentioned. Nobody else is ever linked with him – for good reason.
