Money v Morals, voice of football fans can decide

879

Scottish football is posed for the most momentous stand-off in its history.  The battle lines are clear:

Money v Morals, TV money v Season ticket money, Bank of Scotland v Fans

In 12 days the SPL clubs will vote on resolutions which will enable a new club to parachute straight into the SPL following the liquidation of Rangers without having to apply for entry to the Scottish Football league and rise through the pyramid.  Five clubs can block their entry – for a few days anyway.  Six, a majority if one member is liquidated, would be enough to ensure Rangers Newco SPL entry is blocked.

According to the SPL Fan Survey fans would overwhelmingly like to see any Newco football club enter the Scottish Football League, a position supported by a large number of Rangers fans, but the voices of fans are more easily discarded than that of the Bank of Scotland, who a large number of clubs depend upon to keep their own clubs out of administration.

In short, unless clubs can demonstrate to the Bank of Scotland that they will lose more money from disaffected fans by voting for Newco than they will by voting to retain the custom of Rangers fans, with accompanying television and sponsor money, Newco FC will be voted into the SPL.

Celtic will vote against Newco but fans from Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Inverness, St Johnstone, Motherwell and St Mirren have to do more to make their case directly with their clubs.  Irrespective of fan views, I reckon Dunfermline shareholders would rather relegate their own team than Rangers.  Don’t even ask about Kilmarnock.

The Gang of 10 may speak as one.  If they get rid of Rangers they will be able to out-vote Celtic and have a unique opportunity to change voting rights, allowing them to capture long-term money currently going to Celtic.  This, together with overwhelming fan pressure, might be enough to persuade some, but this issue is more complex.

Despite initial opposition to changing the voting rights, Duff and Phelps may vote with the Gang of 10 on voting rights as part of a deal to allow them to sell a place in the SPL.  Yes – trade votes in order to sell a place in the top league.  Sporting integrity dismantled forever.

Since we first raised the alarm on this vote back in October I have been convinced Newco would be ushered into the SPL but the weight of opinion from fans from other clubs is stark.  Over half of respondents to the Survey say they will not attend SPL games if Newco is voted straight into the league.

Even the Bank of Scotland would have to recognise the business sense in siding with the fans if this view is made firmly enough.

Truth is, no one knows which way this one will go, but this is a once in a century opportunity for fans to make a stand.

When I asked the manager if I could hire a room for half a day as our flights were late in the evening, he said ‘Mr Watson you are my guest you can use all our facilities and we will provide secure storage and showers if you require them, no charge! I left Clearwater that evening feeling slightly humbled by his attitude, it capped an incredible 5 days in a beautiful location.

P.S. I also saw the shuttle take off from poolside!

Drogba is a disgrace, but as Andy “Davie Symes keyholder” Walker says , cheating is part of the game. Top drawer pundit and soup afficianado.

  10. Barca played like Celtic.

They are all over a team of Huns but fail to score.

#Pepe Guardiola is rubbish in the Big games.

    HH One Neil Lennon

  11. At least I didn’t have to suffer the english commentary and the ‘best-league-in-the-world’ crap.

  12. Mullet and Co on

I caught super snore board tonight and though whoa what is eating poor Andy Walker?

Joe Ledley is apparently pathetic, any club would get the same level of scrutiny and lack of decisions if they questioned the refs in the same way as ‘Celtic’.

Ahem, Andy. Hello. Calling an employee of one of your former employees pathetic is not smart. From next season you will no longer have access to the same income streams Mr Walker and you may well regret making those comments.

Secondly, if Celtic Football club are the subject of an SFA campaign reciprocal to a perceived grievance that Celtic Football Club allegedly have, is Joe Ledley not correct to point out the lack of protection he is receiveing as a result of this campaign? He is after all a current employee of Celtic Football Club.

Now this complaining that ‘Celtic’ are doing. Andy says they are. Neil Lennon has complained and voiced an opinion on several mistakes that have been made by refs and officials over the past few weeks. Andy agrees that some of these have been mistakes. So, when did the SFA start this agenda against Celtic? Was it in the league cup final or after that when Neil raised an issue? For me Stokes was kicked en route to scoring a goal. Neil Lennon raised a legitimate question as to why this was not awarded. Thereafter the toys have been out of the pram from the refing contingent Andy?

After all what other comments have been made by Celtic Football Club about refs? Before the League Cup final we had many months of relative calm on this front then all of a sudden because Neil Lennon raises a concern that his team should have had a very important penalty the refs take the huff and pin his picture up next to their blazers as public enemy number one?

Gees peace. The referees have it in for Celtic Football club as a whole and hate Neil Lennon in the same way that Rangers supporters hate Neil Lennon. They hate it that they were caught red handed at Dougie Dougie gate and they hate it that Hugh Dallas was sacked. Celtic Football Club at no time said there was an agenda against their club. Neil Lennon has recently stated it is personal but for me personal does not mean personal against the club.

What is it that makes ex employees of Celtic look upon the club as some sort of satanist doyen worthy only of the excremental comments that they make. Actually it is Rangers who are responsible for Scottish Football standing on the edge of the abyss not the club who are asking for transparency and governance.

Andy Walker, you are a no mark football commentator with diminishing prospects of work. You are happy to play a part in the serial agenda against Celtic. You were a no mark as a Celtic player and frequently put in pathetic performances. Missing the target from 3 yards on more than 1 occassion.

  13. My Dear Kojo…

I hope the NL defence team tomorrow take along photographic and video evidence in support of their case…

In particular, they must ensure that they present the incriminating ‘still’ shot from the last game at Ip*x….the one where NL is seated in the dug-out,following the play, whilst 4th Official Brines stands over him,in an intimidating manner, invading his personal space, and thrusting a forefinger into the manager’s chest*.

    A most unedifying sight.

So,you might say….isn’t Brines employed by the Police Force.?Well, then,it might be understandable if behaviour associated with his everyday job spilled over into his match-day performance ?

    Right? Wrong!!!!

If he behaved in such a manner nowadays in the performance of his duties in uniform,he would surely come in for heavy criticism.

He could be accused of seeking to intimidate and humiliate a member of the public .

Hold on…Give him a whistle and an earphone, and he has licence to behave in such an intemperate manner ?

Would the Police Complaints Ombudsman have a view ?

    * Could you imagine how Sir Swalley would have reacted if a 4th Official had behaved in a similar manner…Glescae Handshake ??

Yer Pal….Who wonders what they put in your Sasparilla…doon at the Jiggin’….

  14. Chelsea were written off here by many a couple of weeks ago. Were expected to get hammered home and away.

Does your boss intimidate you? Are you burdened with a perpetual sense of resentment that manifests itself in attempts to impose your own inadequacies on others? There must be something deep inside to explain your mind numbingly boring and frequent attacks on Lenny.

Or maybe you feel the need to ingratiate yourself to your hun friends?

  20. Embarrassing game for the EPL tonight. A stolen win against a sub standard Barca who had 70% possession away from home against one of the richest clubs in England. Anti football.

Chelsea will play exactly the same way at the Camp Nou. If Barca score early they are goosed.
