Neil Lennon pacing players through December

134

We have had a couple of scares in December, that late Hamilton equaliser and a solid hour of failing to form a coherent attack at Hampden, but chances have flowed like cheap prosecco at a Christmas party in our last three outings against Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen.

Those games should have returned more than six goals but conversion rates tend to vary match-to-match, hopefully we will see a return to the norm in the two remaining games before the winter break.

Like Celtic, Thursday’s opponents, St Mirren, are also enjoying an excellent December.  They were on their own at the bottom of the table after losing to Motherwell on the first game this month, but three games later are now 9th, four clear of the bottom.  Jim Goodwin has made them difficult to beat.

This month Celtic have had the look of a team who are pacing themselves.  Players have been allowed to ease back to fitness.  Odsonne Edouard has not played a full 90 minutes top-flight football since 10 November – and that was one of only two 90-minute performances in domestic football since Celtic lost to Livingston 11 weeks ago.

In the week ahead, I hope we see the benefit of Neil Lennon’s patience in allowing Odsonne to ease himself back into the game.  For all the talk of our dependence on the big striker, his absence has not been evident in the results.

Of no less importance is the return of Mikey Johnston, not just for his ability to occupy defenders, but because when he is in the team we are more likely to see James Forrest and Ryan Christie return to their more natural positions.  It would be good to see them both start on Thursday.

Yes indeed they do, and as the late great Dave Allen used to day “Goodnight & may your God go with you”

I am sorry to say that the interpretation of the Islamic faith has always given me cause for deep concern ever since I read the Salman Rushdie’s ‘The Satanic Verses’ around thirty years ago. Events since have done nothing to make me change my mind.

Not a very Christian post .

    Macjay

Not sure if all ten are necessary in order to facilitate that decent life :-)

  3. ` during which their ( Sevco) group opponents Feyenoord sacked Jaap Stam and replaced him with former Ibrox boss Dick Advocaat.

And last term all three of Rangers’ Europa League group opponents sacked their manager.`

Chuck in the Braga manager`s dismissal and that is FIVE managerial sackings before meeting Sevco !

That is surely a record !

I mentioned that yesterday, MSM called it the Gerrard syndrome but only highlights one European casualty, lucky git so he is

  5. Happy Wigilia to all our Polish Celts. Is it too much to dream we’ll see you in Gdansk?

Friesdorfer….sent you an email. Many Thanks.

Big three points on Boxing Day….No messing.

  6. Ran out of sweetener yesterday so hit town to get some more….otherwise tea and coffee would be out of bounds.

None in Shipbank. None in Tolbooth! Crystal Bell?…..Not a sweetener to be found.

    So I thought…”I know, I’ll try the supermarkets….”

Well they had some, but not my favourite brand…Sweetex….and I began to feel that I should buy something, just in case they thought I was pinchin stuff. So having got a few wee token purchases, I headed home to report on my failed mission.

Then I thought “I’ll just try one more recce of the Winds….bar staff will have changed and who knows…may be some Sweetener will have appeared.”

Sadly ..NO! but…in the laid back verging on comatose atmosphere, my faith in the Christmas spirit (or more likely ‘spirits’) was restored.

Wan right zoomer had dropped a coin and then him an his two mates spent a difficult 2 or 3 minutes bending over trying to pick it up and shouting “f**k you I’ve got it…f**k you I’ve got it…where’s ma tea bag?….Ah never touched yer wife!”.🤪🤪🤪

Anyway, finally got away and got home, only to be asked…”Did you get the sweetex?”

“None to be had” I replied.

    “Whit did ye get then?”

“4 cans of lager, 4 cans of guinness and two bottles of wine….there was a sale”

“Ach ah didn’t fancy tea anyway…you’ll need to go out again the morra and try and get some”

“Ach fair enough” I said with some resignation.

So I’m off shortly on a second mission to save Christmas and this time I WILL GET THE SWEETEX.

I’ll jist check in the Shipbank first.

Have an absolute cracker everyone…and take a wee moment to look out the window and watch the weans laughing.

There is nothing in this world like a wee wan’s smile. We should all try and copy it, and just for a second or two be a wean again.

    Hail Hail

    Agreed.

Fundamentalism and the imposition of your religious beliefs on others , in regard to any faith or absence of faith , is imho the cause of many of the current inter religious problems.

    The point.

Most religions would agree with most of the ten commandments.

More in common than separate us.

  9. When Eddy scored on Saturday the roar was tinged with relief, in a hard fought game

of one Aberdeen chance, which was duly taken.

To say that Odsonne Edouard has developed in his time at Celtic is an understatement, at intervals on Saturday he wanted to beat all of the Aberdeen defence before he scored, a new string to his bow. But Eddy’s genuine not otherwise available in Scotland class, shows because he knows when to release other players, a trait not always shown by other so called multi million pound men.

With James Forrest on the left Celtic are a different and unbeaten proposition although many Celtic fans hanker for ‘ medal man ’ on the right flank, bearing in on goal from the wing. With the St Mirren game sure to be another Christmas donnybrook Neil Lennon will gauge his side for Sunday, and Forrest will be unleashed, on his better foot when Neil thinks its time.

St Mirren will ‘l’homme les barricades’ and many other cliches, to stop us from doing what we do best in this league, and Celtic have more potential goalscorers than any other club in Scotland, regardless of which side NFL selects.

Everyday’s Christmas Eve when you support Glasgow Celtic

    Hail Hail

It must be a comfort to you to know that the faith to which you adhere has never engaged in, or benefitted from, such behaviour thus allowing you to be so judgemental of others without being open to accusations of hypocrisy.

    Merry Xmas.

  12. SPORAR .

The talk re Sporar reminds me that Celtic beat Slòvan Bratislava home and away in the ECWC Quarter finals in early 64. Well beaten by MTK Budapest in the Semis
