Neil Lennon’s next decision, marquees and sunshine

456

I hope Neil Lennon takes the Hibs job. He’s a talented coach who has achieved far beyond the expected mark of a 44-year-old. After leaving Celtic two years ago he gave Bolton a temporary respite, rescuing them from immediate relegation before the inevitable happened a year later.

Bolton were on the slide and needed a miracle worker. Hibs, on the other hand, can surely only go one way. Managing a second successive failing club would be difficult to recover from. Easter Road has also allowed Alan Stubbs to enhance his managerial stock, despite not reaching the play-off final in either of his two seasons in charge.

Right now Hibs are a great opportunity for Neil.

No harm meant to Colin Kazim-Richards but the sight of him going through a medical in Brazil was welcome. He was one of a large number of players acquired over the last two seasons who never looked like a Celtic player, on paper, or on the field. It’s best for player and club he moves on.

What kind of times are these? Marquees deployed to protect scores of Celtic season ticket applicants from sunburn. Surely some parallel universe.

    Good mhan!

By my reckoning that makes four CQNers who were at the gig!

    So far.

A wee postscript: six of us, including my daughter who is 21, travelled back to Troon by minibus after the gig. The driver was a Hibee, and the two of us had a very pleasant chat about the SC Final! He also said he hoped that Neil Lennon would be the new manager. His wish has been granted it would appear.

Do you envisage the club actually using the ‘Old Firm’ brand at any point? The term hasn’t been seen from Celtic since the Youth Cup Final in May last year.

They have made no play on the fact that TRFC are now in the league in order to drive ST sales (not that I’ve seen anyway).

Or do you think they’re happy to piggyback on the fact that all the media are hyping it? As a piece of marketing that’s a win/win for the club. They can say they stand alone, but really still benefit from 3rd party hype.

Then when all the cash is in say something to appease the fans (which they may not).

Wholeheartedly agree and quite frankly Celtic FC should be compensating the 4 Res12 guys for the expenditure they are out of pocket

I would much prefer we were given a total which all of us could understand and agree on, there are some excellent CQNs who are well versed in raising money who could assist in making good on out of pockets of res12

Well done to bada Bing and few others speaking out for Lennon , Lenny is a Celtic legend. No hindsight will change that.

Well said. More than any other employee of CFC, Neil Lennon was the subject of physical attacks and constant disgusting abuse in the course of doing his job. I wish him all the best in his new role managing Hibs and it will be interesting to see if he gets the same treatment. If he does, then I wonder if he will get any support from the SFA, SPFL or League Managers Association? Not a lot of support last time round…

  8. Because of what he suffered as our manager, I would never have called for Neil Lennon’s dismissal as many called for Ronnie Deila’s. He has gone and while I hope he enjoys success at Hibs (or wherever he ends up) I do not wish him back as our manager any time in the future.

John Collins was an old firm devotee, he was an employee

JOHN COLLINS last night claimed Celtic will never get credit for being champions until Rangers are back in the top flight.

And the Parkhead assistant boss reckons anyone who
says having them back won’t spark Scottish football isn’t
living in the real world

    Was he rebuked ?

This is business board first and last, Res12 has no monetary value in it for the board, it is all about integrity & fairness

To answer your question i agree with your analysis in last paragraph, the statement will be meaningless PR guff anyway, if BR gets off to a flying start and cuffs Triggers broom in the first new/old firm SPFL match, RES12 wont be mentioned

Watching this mornings television news coverage of Commons Select Committee hearing testimony on the BHS administration, I am struck by the similarities to the old Rangers administration.

    1) They were both suffering financial distress.

    2) Both were sold to buyers for a pound.

    3) Board members of both claim to have been “duped” by the new owners.

    4) There have been calls for both original CEO’s to face criminal charges, and calls for debasement of their Knighthoods………….Oh, wait a minute………. :)))

This is the second season [for Collins and Deila at Celtic without Rangers], so you’re kind of getting used to it now. If and when they do get back then it’s a totally different ball game; every week’s exciting, we’re looking for each other’s results, everyone’s talking about both of us and everyone’s full of energy when Rangers are in the league. The fans love Old Firm games, winning Old Firm games.”

The amount of honours won by Billy McNeill during his time as both player and manager of the football club is simply phenomenal.

That’s very poor isn’t it? On the one hand it’s his opinion and that’s fair enough, and unfortunately for a sizable number of our fans it’s probably also true. On the other it goes directly against what the club has claimed in terms of standing alone and OF being retired etc.

If he was reminded of that following his comments (and I’m absolutely not saying he was), do you think that should have been made public? With all the mess that entails from the MSM?

We’ll need to wait and see (as usual). In terms of communications from ‘the club’ rather than individuals at the club they do seem to be avoiding a link with TRFC as much as possible, and that’s a start.

What happens from here on in (now that they’re in the same league) will be interesting. I suspect it will be as I said above, ride the coat-tails of SMSM generated hype without actually needing to say anything.
