Neil’s back, Anthony’s off

454

Best wishes to Neil Lennon is his new role as Hibernian manager. Without wanting to be impolite about Alan Stubbs, Hibs have traded-up in getting a manager of international repute and experience at the highest level of the game.

Neil is a talented coach who got unlikely results across his Celtic career. He’ll bring Hibs up next season and establish a platform to rebuild the club.

Best wishes too to fellow Irishman Anthony Stokes, who left the club yesterday six years after joining from Hibs. The best of Anthony was there for all to see at the Scottish Cup final. He’s still only 27 and, should he find the appetite, he should still have a few good years in the game. His Celtic ‘thing’ finished years ago.

Celtic legend, Charlie Gallagher, will be signing copies of his autobiography at Waterstons, East Kilbride, this Saturday (11th) from 2pm, and 2pm the following Saturday (18th) at Waterstones, Braehead. Get along to see him!

Good luck to all involved in the Green Brigade Anti-discrimination tournament at James McGrory Park on Saturday. If you’re not in East Kilbride, get along.

” I got lambasted on here having watched his first 45 min v Aberdeen and declared him a dud.”

The dud just signed for a team in Campeonato Serie A. He will be playing against dud teams like Botafogo, Cruzeiro, Santos, Flamengo, Gremio and Corinthians.

For your 13 managers that you assert have the same opinion, there are now 14 managers who have had an alternative view.

There is no doubt that Kazim-Richards can play. But he did not readily fit into this Celtic team. If he had played for Aberdeen you would be viewing him more favourably.

Tip of the iceberg I’m afraid.. Funny how Kingsmill has been in the news quite a lot recently.. Maybe trying to take the sting out of this report.

No matter what anyway no policeman will serve time behind bars, how many years since Cameron made public apology and admission that the paras committed murder on Bloody Sunday… Yet not one day in prison for the guilty.

Stark contrast to republicans who still get locked up with no evidence .. The latest being Tony Taylor.

Nothing but the same old story.. In the 21st century .

No disrespect James, I really do appreciate the link, but it is a sad song & The Tones kinda jazzed it up in that version. As they say one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Sorry I missed the chat with Corkcelt and others re: ballads a wee while ago.

I’m a fan, too, of sad songs sung properly – in the mood of the story they tell. Nothing worse – in my opinion – than seeing drunk wimmen and men dancing round their handbags and pints, to songs of solemn tragedy.

And I hate the add-ons to Fields of Athenry too.

I love songs like Spancil Hill, Ballad of James Connolly, Dying Rebel, Four Green Fields, Down by the Glenside, The West Awake, etc. – make the hairs on the nape of your neck stand up when done well.

So there I was, working quietly in my client’s office today thinking hard about how to bullshit my way through my monthly meeting when I became aware of my phone pounding out the dulcet tones of the Dropkick Murphy’s, Fields of Athenry.

Answering the phone thinking it would be Mrs ACGR asking if I preferred carrots or peas with my dinner this evening, I was stopped dead in my tracks, my heart pounding, blood coursing and temples throbbing. No, it wasn’t Mrs ACGR with a veg related dining query.

I recognised the sultry voice immediately. Could it be, could it really be? Yes, it was the unmistakeable voice of the one true goddess of love. The one and only, beauty personified, the delectable tones of Annabel Goldie. The sex queen of a thousand posters, multiple dreams, some of them wet and a number of A&E visits to attend to wrist strains, right and left on multiple occasions, the one true timeless queen of the late night debate.

“Eh Hullo, Hullo. Annabel Goldie here, am I through to the Ecclefechan RSPB”?

“No, my love, my ray of blue sky, my little chipmunk sex kitten, you’re through to your biggest fan. Mr ACGR here, what can I do for you my dear little duckling?

The next part of the conversation was extremely intimate and Annabel insisted I specifically not mention she asked me round for dinner and to play with her puppies. I did ask what kind they were and she said they were 56 double D’s. I guessed it was something akin to 101 Dalmatians so agreed to fix a date when I got back from my upcoming trip to the space station.

Ten minutes later she texted me back to say she’d got a wrong number and all the puppies would be gone by the time I returned from earth orbit.

Alas, it was not to be.

    ……………………….

The above was brought to you by ACGR productions and was based on a short story by an Irish fantasist.

    Film right pending.

Just reading you comments on ballads 10 mins after I was flicking through my copy of Walton’s New Treasury of Irish Songs and Ballads. It has a load of interesting songs including a few by J.M. Crofts and, indeed, “The Hat My father Wore” which was appropriated for nefarious purposes. Interesting collection.

*Originally sung by Cape Bretoner Angus McDonald

But on St Patrick’s Day I love to wear

    the hat my father wore.

Oh, it’s old but it’s beautiful,

    the best you’ve ever seen,

It has been worn for more than 90 years

    in that little isle serene;

    From my father’s great ancestors

    it descended with a lore,

It’s the relic of old decency,

it’s the hat my father wore.

    And what about this classic:

Follow! follow! I will follow Jesus!

Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on!

Follow! follow! I will follow Jesus!

Everywhere He leads me I will follow on!

Aye so they will, they curse his mother and his successor on earth, they bassas never came up with anything original in their lives.

  20. Do I detect the beginings of conspiracy theory burn-out creeping in to this blog? I hope so, as it’s reached the very boring stage.

Really, do so many people , businesses and institutions hate us so much? I don’t think they do and I think it shows a lack of confidence and self-esteem, in those who spread it – Let’s stop playing the victim – it’s Sevcoesque, defeatist and divisive.

Yes there are issues to be addressed, but let’s focus on what is important – our new era under Brendan and hopefully our re-birth in Europe.

I believe after a positive Supreme Court verdict, certain things like player registration and financial doping will take on a life of their own – positions and arguments will be easier to make with the strength of the law behind us.

Let not the criminality and shenanigans at Ibrox and Hampden detract and deflect us from our support and enjoyment of Celtic FC – if we do, they win.
