Neil’s back, Anthony’s off

454

Best wishes to Neil Lennon is his new role as Hibernian manager. Without wanting to be impolite about Alan Stubbs, Hibs have traded-up in getting a manager of international repute and experience at the highest level of the game.

Neil is a talented coach who got unlikely results across his Celtic career. He’ll bring Hibs up next season and establish a platform to rebuild the club.

Best wishes too to fellow Irishman Anthony Stokes, who left the club yesterday six years after joining from Hibs. The best of Anthony was there for all to see at the Scottish Cup final. He’s still only 27 and, should he find the appetite, he should still have a few good years in the game. His Celtic ‘thing’ finished years ago.

Celtic legend, Charlie Gallagher, will be signing copies of his autobiography at Waterstons, East Kilbride, this Saturday (11th) from 2pm, and 2pm the following Saturday (18th) at Waterstones, Braehead. Get along to see him!

Good luck to all involved in the Green Brigade Anti-discrimination tournament at James McGrory Park on Saturday. If you’re not in East Kilbride, get along.

  6. The Guardian stuff is just a window on the scottish establishments attempt to cover its tracks. In this case they have reduced the argument to celtic v hun fans.

The irony is of course that all of this should be unnecessary. If the Celtic board openly questionned and tackled res12 and indeed the other sorry points of this whole episode there would be no need for supporters or indeed shareholders to “do their dirty work” for them.

It is shameful that they have hidden behind all this for so long. I hope when, as we are promised, they do speak out, it will be will clarity and with surity to tackle the issues at hand.

    We shall see.

In the meantime the approach the scottish establishment will continue to take is to paint us as loons (just like we were paranoid for all those years). Its a classic tactic to be fair.

  12. I wouldn’t give up on the Roy Greenslade response yet.

It comes across that following questions to him that he has followed them up by asking staff members on the Guardian just what was going on. Why would he have reason to doubt the veracity of his own colleagues even when they are feeding him a load of crap.

Roy Greenslade has a very high reputation as an honest journalist but in this case has made major rookie mistakes. He has failed to take an objective approach to this issue relying totally on the word of his colleagues and not interviewing members of CQN to find out if the complaints from the other side as it where had any merit.

He has allowed his own integrity to be called into question over this and if he persists with this version of events then maybe it should be.

  13. Winning Captains

Therefor you need to raise an IPSO complaint against Mr Greensdale.

Make it pointed questioning each and every single error he has reported. And ask in the complaint for the French version of the add that he reports was sent to him to be detailed, providing email correspondents and recipients.

Was your opinion ever sought before this article appeared.Maybe you might think of proceeding with the possibility that RG wasn’t told the real story. Educate him and if he still sticks to his original version of events then let loose

  16. I’m with you Clinko, re: Roy Greenslade.

If won round on this matter, he could be a very useful ally.

That said, he can go a number of ways on it: e.g. he could simply feel he’s too busy to get embroiled in it; he could think ‘wait a minute, there’s something really weird going here that I’d like to find out about’.

At this moment, hope he’s feeling a bit foolish and a bit annoyed with what he’s posted so far …

Monsieur Greenslade’s article is all over the place.

New Rangers getting into the Champions League? Errrr…..???

    Little resonance outside Scotland?

Well, sorry but you just said it was in a Swiss newspaper!

And since when did newspapers turn down adverts because they didn’t resonate with much of their readership?

Finally, you – ahem – “forget” to say which of the terms and conditions it failed on.

And was it REALLY in French, Roy?

Far from clearing things up you have actually made it look MORE like a conspiracy!

Come on Roy – just put it there in print – “none of our big advertisers put any pressure on us”. Just say it.

  18. Roy Greenslade seems to be pouring a big can of petrol onto the can of worms, this is more publicity than the advert might have got..

    Cheers Roy mate..

just read your article. Well said.

A bit of mutual backslapping between myself and Jungle VIP above.

He makes the excellent point that if RG can be round then he might indeed make an excellent ally.

    Definitely worth thinking about

  21. I have asked him on Twitter. He never contacted us about the matter and he certainly hasn’t got a copy of the two PDFs I sent to them – both ads in English.

    How embarrassing for him.

A fair settlement will be for them to run the ad for free.

On the Res12stance we are getting 12 small banners made to give to CQNers with the Res 12 logo on it.

The idea is that we all take turns in displaying these 12 banners on the 12th minute of every game next season. The banners will be handed out at the CQN corner before each home game.

    Everyone can take a turn!

Hurry up if you want a t-shirt – not many left.

    Agree with this.

I’d be amazed if he doesn’t investigate further and respond today with an apology.

In a way this might work out even better. we might even find out the real reason behind the Guardian’s pulling of the advert.

  23. I really can’t believe that article from Greenslade. What a load of hooey. Why comment at all on it? Something very strange is going on….

  24. Winning Captains

If it turns out, as it looks more and more likely, that the PLC are not going to step up and back Res12 officially, will the banners also point to their failure and Oldfirmism? Or is that a step too far?

Football hate crimes rise by almost 50% in last year

The number of hate crime offences in Scotland relating to football have risen by 49% in the past year, new figures have shown.

There were a total of 287 of these crimes reported in 2015-2016.

They related to 117 fixtures across 29 stadiums, up from 54 games played at 21 stadiums the year before.

Justice Secretary Michael Matheson said the Offensive Behaviour Act was an “important tool” in tackling offensive behaviour, including sectarianism.

The hate crime figures, released by the Scottish government, showed that 581 charges with a religious aggravation were reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) in 2015-16, a 3% increase on 2014-15.

    Racial crime

The number of charges where Islam was noted almost doubled from 71 charges in 2014-15 to 134 charges in 2015-16.

Overall, there was a slight increase in the number of hate crimes reported, with racial crime the most common.

There were a total of 3,712 racial charges reported in 2015-16. However, this was a decrease on last year and the lowest number reported since 2003-04.

Other findings in the reports include:

1,020 charges were reported with an aggravation of prejudice relating to sexual orientation, up 20% on the previous year, and 201 relating to disability, an increase of 14%

Roman Catholicism is the religion most often noted in religiously-aggravated charges (51% in 2015-16), followed by Protestantism (24%) and Islam (23%)

The police were the victims in 41% of religiously aggravated charges in 2015-16.
