One day in Fife

519

Over 70 CQN’ers gathered in Aberdour, Fife, on Friday for our eighth annual charity golf day.  As before, the day was hugely successful.  Both those there on the day, and hundreds more who contributed beforehand, raised over £6,000 since we kicked off the summer’s fundraising activity in May.

This year LIvingston manager and former Celtic player, John Hughes, gave his time to entertain us with a mixture of great anecdotes and outrageous anecdotes.  The big man spoke warmly of his time at Celtic, the joy of signing and working for Tommy Burns, that goal at Ibrox, and how he still benefits from his time learning from Tommy.

Many sincere thanks to Taggsy, BlantyreKev, Jonnybhoy, Barassiebhoy for organising an excellent event yet again.  A special mention for Oldtim, for more than I am prepared to tell you, and to everyone who contributed to an excellent Celtic occasion.

  1. Ah ha! Nice Indian man has just fixed my Broadband.

First stop CQN to say big congrats to Pat, a worthy winner of Friday’s Open and top bloke. Dignity personified with the winners speech. Looking forward to next year already.

The tales of woe on where so many rounds went wrong are fantastic. “That duff chip on the 12th” or “3 of the tee on the 8th killed my score”. Everyone has one. But I’ll tell you this, if big Curly could putt he’d have won by a rebel-country mile! Curly and It Ain’t Half Hot Bhoy were my playing partners and what an outstanding afternoon it was. Certainly for them as they watched my masterclass. That month camped at Aberdour GC paid off.

Great day, too many top blokes to mention and just a pleasure to be able to assist the taggsybhoy on his awesome creation. Now at more than full capacity I don’t know where we go with it next year but 75 blokes with only 3 half-wits is a great percentage too!

  13. spent last week in north wales. Llangollen, brilliant so it was.

Best parts, Drives to Rhyl, and along the coast to Llandudno, really amazing so it was.

I enjoyed it, so I did.

Worst part. Rented hoose was halfway up a hillside near Horseshoepass, (Brittania Inn near bye, excellent food so it was) , and , after a wee thunder storm , lost all the sky channels, no wi-fi, and i managed to drop my phone doon the cludgje.

so hadnt a clue for a week. no CQN, its really a penance, so it is.

however, intermittent views of the hoops, at chester zoo, llandudno & warrington, made it up.

views of the former huns team just made me laugh , out loud, so it did.

left Gullivers World warrington and still not wise to the score, drove up the m6.

this week. Sad that it’s taken so long! Joking. Got a good deal with Groupon this week and looking forward to zooming about Loch Lomond in a wee speedboat for an hour for four people for £18. I would say weather permitting but hey ho…it’s Scotland.

Couldn’t agree more re YNWA. It is over-played and has lost its impact as a result. It should be played before the game and perhaps at half-time.

Last Wednesday, while watching the CL qualifier, I cringed when it was played at the start of the second half, and that turned to anger when the Finns took the lead shortly after.

The stadium announcer seems to be thinking . . . We’re on TV, so let’s show them. That was all well and good 20 years ago. Now it is just self-indulgence.

Kayal believes a huddle will help as Celtic plot Champions League progression

Celtic players have staged a dressing-room summit in order to plot a path towards the Champions League group stages.

The SPL champions travel to Helsinki on Tuesday with a slender 2-1 lead from the third round, first-leg qualifier.

And Beram Kayal says the players have reaffirmed their desire to secure a place in the final champions qualifying round in Finland on Wednesday.

‘The players spoke together about the big need to win the games to be in Champions League,’ Kayal said.

‘Everyone wants to feel that moment of being there with a big club like Celtic.

‘In the team now, we have a lot of players around 23 and 24 years of age and we train together and are together in the dressing room.

‘We spoke together about it and believe we are going to do it.’

Captain Scott Brown remains an injury doubt with a hip problem. James Forrest and Charlie Mulgrew will return, however, after missing a lacklustre win over Aberdeen on Saturday.

Main man: Celtic boss Neil Lennon urges his side on from the touchline

Determined to atone for previous setbacks at an early stage of the competitive season, Kayal insisted Celtic are ready this time.

‘Our focus is only on Wednesday and we want to do the job,’ he said. ‘We spoke before Sion and Braga and we believed, but some things didn’t go well and we haven’t played in the Champions League in the past two years.

‘But we’re more experienced now and had a Europa League season last year against some great teams, including Atletico Madrid who went on to win the trophy.’

Failure would damage manager Neil Lennon’s hopes of strengthening his squad, forcing Celtic to sell one of their star names to an English club.

Linked with Southampton recently, Kayal shrugged aside that prospect, adding: ‘I don’t take the decisions about players being sold or staying here, I just look at the positives.’

The next likely departure from Parkhead is defender Josh Thompson. Aberdeen are keen to secure a loan deal for the towering central defender, who played a trial for troubled Portsmouth last week.

Celtic, meanwhile, have dismissed reports of an £800,000 bid for 20-year-old Rosenborg midfielder Markus Henriksen.

As an example,I give you comment no 2,about child abuse, from that very article.

IMO,many of them realise that the game is up. Some are grudgingly accepting it. Others are intent on causing as much collateral damage as possible.
