Oops, we forgot about Sevco 5088

930

We are all familiar with brinksmanship; adopting what seems like an uncompromising position despite acute potential consequences.  Correspondence recently released around the goings-on at Rangers International and associated companies suggests at least two combative parties have been edging towards the brink since last year.  Now it is clear they are both well over the brink, it’s too late for either to back down.

The conclusion of Pinsent Masons’ report was released to the stock market this morning and found “no evidence that Craig Whyte had any involvement with Sevco Scotland Limited (now called The Rangers Football Club Limited), the company which ultimately acquired the business and assets of The Rangers Football Club P.L.C. from its administrators; nor which would suggest that Craig Whyte invested in The Rangers Football Club Limited or Rangers International Football Club plc”.

All of which, sharp-eyed observers will note, is exactly what Mr Whyte is so animated about.

Let me run through that list of companies which Mr Whyte was not involved with again:

Sevco Scotland Ltd: check
AKA The Rangers Football Club Ltd: check
Rangers International Football Club PLC: check
Sevco 5088 Ltd: wait a minute, they missed out Sevco 5088 Ltd!!

This is where the project resembles trying to push water uphill:

Rangers International plc claim Sevco 5088 Ltd is a subsidiary of theirs.

Mr Whyte claims to be a director and beneficiary of Sevco 5088 Ltd.

Pinsent Masons’ report’s published conclusion fails to comment on Mr Whyte’s status in connection with Rangers International’s claimed subsidiary company, Sevco 5088 Ltd.

The SFA prohibited the new associate member club from having any connection with Mr Whyte.  Last week the SFA chief executive acknowledged the seriousness of the club potentially breaking the conditions of membership, but said the Association would await the outcome of the Pinsent Masons’ report.  The published conclusions of which does not address the question.

Rangers International have just dared the SFA to act.  They are familiar with the tactics of brinksmanship, however….

Just in case you are new to this subject…..

Hell will freeze over before any football association with Campbell Ogilvie as president will act on this matter.  “Heavily conflicted” Campbell will ensure his board take no action.

I was delighted to read one man who knew exactly what he was dealing with when he took on the SFA.  Echoing the comments made here yesterday, Fergus McCann said:

“Filling Celtic Park against Barcelona or Spartak or Rangers is the easy part.

“The part that really counts is consistent support at every game at Celtic Park and that will deliver the top-level matches.

“My time at the Croy CSC reminds me of the importance of dedicated support.

“The members knew that their role was vital, especially in the hard times.”

The future of our club is very much in our own hands and these are important times to fill out Celtic Park.

Waterstones, Stirling, 5-7pm TODAY!

I’ll be at Waterstones, Stirling, with Willie Wallace from 5pm until 7pm this evening.  Willie will be available for photographs and signing copies of his autobiography, Heart of a Lion.  If you’re from the area, call in, I’ll see you there.

Many thanks to all who bought tickets for the Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, we sold out last night.  Thanks also to those who are bidding on the fabulous signed Messi top, you still have a few days left to get involved.  The spirit of Walfrid is alive and well 125 years on.

  4. Who has been the best SPL player we have signed since the year 2000?

Serious question… How many have been flops?

  5. Kev Jungle,

I knew very little about the players you mention, they are gambles that haven’t worked out, same as we have plenty gambles that have worked out, with a lot of signings you cant be sure how its gonna pan out,but you batter on about signing quality and then throw John Sutton in the mix, surely you would want to set your sights higher than that

    Best, Brown or Mulgrew

Others off the top of my head who have been good signings McDonald, Hartley, Robson, Wilson, Agathe

  7. We brought in Darryl Murphy, Bangura & Miku to name a recent few and they all flopped. Just cos one sees a youtube video of some big guy somewhere knocking in a few goals doesn’t automatically mean he will be a hit at Celtic. Hooper is a proven striker those who say they wouldn’t be bothered if he goes need to be careful what they wish for. Personally I think he is class and want him to stay.

  8. KevJungle – you can no more guarantee that Russell would have been a success here than any of those other players.

Riordan, for example, was flying with Hibs before he came to us.

If they are then its short termism.

If Sevco are assured of two more promotions like their last one along with the associate membership and the game will die for sure. The transparency will be there for all to see. Or will it ? I.e same old same old without the pretence. The huns have no shame , pride, integrity or dignity and will have no qualms about it. But the rest ?

  11. Paul – good that someone is pointing out the obvious subterfuge going on here. Incredible that the findings would report that while leaks are going on all over the place showing that there was indeed a link.

As you say hell will freeze over before the SFA would act – and of course the media will be in full “dont talk about it” mode.

So the question is, as exiled tim has alluded to – are Celtic going to act and if not why not?

Can any knowledgeable, historian types clarify the following for me:

When and why did we go from vertical stripes to the hoops?

Was the intention for the club’s name to be pronounced with a ‘K’ sound?

Is it true the bulk of our initial squad was made up players taken from Hibs?

    Thanks in advance

  14. Kev Jungle,

I don’t know,i am quite happy to leave that up to the scouts and the management, but certainly not John Sutton,if Celtic signed the 3 players you mention would you renew your season ticket, not a chance, you would find something else to moan about

  15. KevJ, Historically Celtic have never had a period of such high average attendances, not even in 1965-1975 during our most successfule period. 45, 000 and over for the last 15 years, not doing to bad. If anyone knows better and I’m wrong I’ll stand corrected, but I dont think so.

    Work calls.

  16. Well said, Paul.

It’s the sheer brass neck of these ‘professional’ folk (lie those at Pinsent Masons and their learned accomplices) that really impresses me.

I mean, through the clever use of jargon-strewn language they like to give the impression that they’re actually rather smart; certainly a lot smarter than any of the plebs for whom their doing their ‘work’. LNS’s recent report (ably assisted by his QC pal) is another case in point.

Do they really think everyone reading their piffle will fail to see through its utter tosh?

  17. Hi Paul67,

“The SFA prohibited the new associate member club from having any connection with Mr Whyte. Last week the SFA chief executive acknowledged the seriousness of the club potentially breaking the conditions of membership, but said the Association would await the outcome of the Pinsent Masons’ report.”

While this is true, and it seems reasonable for the SFA to await the outcome of an Independent Investigation the spiel issued today was worded somewhat differently.

“The Investigation Committee is satisfied that a thorough investigation was conducted despite the inherent limitations of a private inquiry……………..This announcement is not intended to and does not serve to waive privilege in the contents of the reports which remain confidential and legally privileged.”

Now an Independent Investigation and a Private Inquiry are hugely different in my book, and the issuing of and re-statement of the Confidential and Privileged nature of the inquiry suggests that they want to gag everyone involved.

The thing I also find odd is that the title of the assets and business sold by D&P to SevCo were not addressed. Since an IPO was issued by a PLC that claimed ownership of this business and these assets and a considerable sum was raised during this share issue, surely they would want this expensive and divisive Inquiry to ensure unequivocal outcome – if they could.

  18. Maybes Lenny just doesn’t rate Russel, maybes PL wants the price down, who knows.

I agree that we have wasted a few millions on players who haven’t worked out, but that is the nature of transfers, some you win, some you lose.

Unless you pay for the finished artical, and we won’t be doing that any time soon.

I think Lenny and JP have brought in more who have made the grade than haven’t. so I will trust them to deliver this time around.

As for Hooper. I get the feeling he wants away, and a wage increase will not persuade him to stay, so if that is the case, sell him.

  20. Corkcelt,

you must be worried if Kev Jungle is agreeing with you,i doubt any of those you mention were signed based on you tube videos, but every signing is a gamble and I don’t know any team that gets them right 100% of the time

  21. MOULDY67, I gave up on Lost before episode 2.

The Boy Jinky, ha! I’m sure Willie will sign your photos….

EXILED TIM, I reckon all clubs are following their own agendas right now. Lots of things on the table, lots of people wanting to go in different directions.

Sevco is a side-show to each of them.

    KevJungle, we’ll see.

NegAnon2, if you mean pointless grandstanding (see C. Green), probably not. If you mean working on their own objective, yes, they are.

Think Lenny rates him. Twice this season in per match interviews when the debate was the standard of Scottish football he used Russell along with Forrest and Scott Allan as examples of young talented Scottish players. Whether he wants to sign him or not I suspect depends on whether Hooper stays or goes.
