Operation relieve the gullible of £411 each underway

“My father wasn’t at all keen on me becoming a Rangers supporter.  He was a Glasgow policeman and because of that he resented the whole football scene in Glasgow.  ‘He was actually very anti-football.  When we were kids growing up he was very vocal on his dislike of the bigotry in football.  The police in Glasgow at that time saw it as a basis for thuggery.

“My father took me to that first game reluctantly…”

Dave King, shooting the breeze with the Daily Mail in March last year.

“Like all of you who read this letter, I have always taken pride in being a Rangers supporter. It is something I inherited from my father who, in turn, inherited the legacy from my grandfather. This is what Rangers fans do. We pass on our pride and belief in Rangers to our children.”

Dave King’s letter to the season ticket marketing database last week.

One of the two statements is probably true, although with Dave, who knows?  South African judge, Brian Southwood, referred to King as a “glib and shameless liar”.  Despite this, the SFA decided he was an appropriate person to run a football club, free to send out messages like this, with the objective of relieving fans of an average of £411 per person.  This is what happens when you enable people already branded a shameless liar, what do you expect?

I hope the SFA and Trading Standards are alerted to what’s going on, don’t leave it until it’s too late.

I’m waiting for new of the Ben Nevis Huddle, which should have taken place at the peak of the mountain in the last hour.  Over 80 people set out on the climb this morning to raise funds for the Celtic Foundation – to feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless and help others in need.

It’s a magnificent Celtic effort.  My wee brother’s up there, you can give his fundraising a pound or two here.  Thank you.

“if MW is signing a 3 year deal are you telling me he will leave without wanting to top the SPFL ?

Surely the target MUST be to top the SPFL within his tenure ?

I’m sure we will now romp the championship, get close in year two and go for it year three, remember the opposition teams in the rest of the SPFL are dross ,it wont take much to topple Timmy .

    Let the revolution begin”

The target was a landmark in Knightswood for many a year. It must have been dismantled about twenty years ago when Barr and Stroud were moved to Shieldhall, across from the Southern. I think they became known as Pilkington.

Barr and Stroud’s employment policy was well known in and around Maryhill, Drumchapel, Clydebank, Partick, Knightswood and Anniesland areas,

I don’t know anything about Warburton or his football credentials.

All I have read, on here, is that he is/was a player in the financial markets and did well for himself.

I assume that those are the same markets that won’t touch Sevco with the proverbial.

He is also the guy to whom Sevco pawned McLeod to, when they were in dire straights.

I don’t think the boy even came of his uncle’s shelf to kick a ball.

If all the above is true, then why is he hitching up with King and his unlisted circus?

    On a happier note.

I am not long home from Dublin where I watched the Scotland game from the comfort of the FAI’s hospitality suite.

I was like a kid at Christmas.

I spent the afternoon in the company of some of Ireland’s past Internationalists.

Mark Lawrenson, Gary Kelly ,Kevin Kilbane and Paul McGrath.

All good lads and very friendly.

If there is a more humble, decent and warm individual than Paul, on this planet, then he is too good for this planet.

Martin O’Neill came into the Jack Charlton Lounge after the game and gave his view of the game.

GAA and Broadcasting legends, Mick O’ Dwyer and Jimmy McGee respectively, were also in the company.

Rod Stewart was sitting five seats along from me and on leaving, shook my hand and said, ” Hail Hail, c’mon you bhoys in green”.

As for the game. Truthfully it was pretty poor fare, played out by two jaded teams of players, who in fairness gave their all.

Neither keeper had a save to make. Two crappy goals and any sign of cohesive football came from Scotland.

All in all, a very enjoyable day out, enhanced by free bar and meal.

    PS.

    On Hugh Mc’Illvanney.

I have been a fan of his for fifty odd years, but every week I look to his column, hoping to read his view on the situation in Scottish football.

    I look in vain.

Hugh is never slow to highlight the good and the bad in sport, but his avoidance of this subject tarnishes my respect for him.

A wage, the guys on the dole so he’s taken any job that pays the bills.

He took Brentford to the playoffs and they still sacked him so proberley fluked it and the board realised he was shite, wouldn’t imagine he got any offers from English clubs so took the first offer IMO

  7. TTT: Good summation of the game. Scottish fans were warmly welcomed in the city and at the match from what I could see. Scotland were the better team on the day.

  8. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Thomthetim, sounds like you had a great time at the game.

I would have loved Paul McGrath to have played for us. Great player.

At our second game at Ibrox in the centenary season, Paul was sitting with Brian McLair at the front of the main stand in among our support. Most of those sitting near him, shook his hand more than Choccy’s.

Warbuton would be a good signing for Sevco

If he is backed ..he will skate the league next year

His stock is fairly high at the moment ….Sevco are a strange choice ( if he has a choice ) …mind they paid Sally a fortune

Not the manager I’d expect from a team is disarray and penury

  10. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I would love to see Andy Carol at Celtic he would score for fun in the SPL if he could stay fit. However,we couldnt afford to pay him even half his wages im afraid it looks like another made up story. H.H.

  11. Hun skelper

I doubt he needs the tainted blue pound.

He was a very successful trader in the city. Forex I believe.

He did well at Brentford so he would have made a couple of shillings there.

I hope he signed on a 7 figure deal and costs them a fortune when he gets the sack for failing to win promotion from the Championship.

  12. Dallas…

They became Pilkington whilst still based in Anniesland.

Posted before about this but may as well update.

You have probably seen the Pilkington emblem, it’s like a Celtic Cross:))

Many huns in B&S ripped the badges if their newly acquired boiler suits, that didn’t sit well and some were disciplined:)

I ended up leaving after twelve years there due to the blatant discrimination to catholics.

They are now based in Linthouse (govan) and a poster came on a while ago, all is fair game now, no matter your religion or colour.

About feckin time….A hundred years of bigotry went on in that company.HH

Warburton may be the greatest thing since sliced bread. However the fact is that despite the outrage among the English media at him being dumped by a foreign owner, no other team south of the border has been tempted to take him on. That of course may be due to his unconventional background which the traditionalists may be suspicious of.

Having been a city trader and no doubt having the gift of knowing how to make an advantageous deal it may well be that his wheeling and dealing will be the attraction to King. The next EBT equivalent might be being dreamt up as we speak.

Dough to be made possibly but who for?

  14. Craigellachie10 on

Andy Carroll, second best striker in the Championship a few seasons back. The best one came to Celtic and had the football years of his life had he only known it!

  15. Pfayr…Thats what i was thinking, He Imo Could have got a Job in england so why if sevco are as skint as we are led to believe would he go there…Something Just dont add up, for me anyway…

  16. I second what craigellachie10 says. My worry is that King see’s him for a competent manager but also that he could play the markets and make Der Hun a pretty penny. I hope he fails on both accounts!

    Warburton, aged 52.

His entire managerial career of two years – won 40, drew 16, lost 22.

King has only one game in town, to shift season tickets, and anyone who isn’t McOist or the Mullet will allow him to promise moonbeams of the floating casino kind and give them hope.

Couldn’t care less about Rangers so I will skip that subject.

Ken Loach. A few decent movies but generally a far left bore. He recently linked himself with yet another loony left party. No thanks.

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Sipsini, my dad has never had a bigoted bone in his body. He was a mechanical engineer. He didn’t work for Barr & Stroud and would never have worked for them even in the most desperate of times.

Any time their name would mentioned, he would always say that horrible shower.

I watch Brentford a fair bit. Said to my son months ago that I reckoned Warburton was headed to Ibrox – but all a big secret for some strange reason.

He is what they need – but what the hell is in it for him? I can only assume that a lot of penny shares have been promised.

I recorded the Henry Cecil, Frankel documentary on C4, just watched it. Great programme for anyone who loves their racing and a good story even if you don’t. The 2000 guineas win was simply stunning. The bravery of Henry Cecil was emotional to watch.

  27. CB: Don’t know what party he has aligned himself to, and don’t care, tbh. That interview with Cillian Murphy was very interesting. What I like about Loach’s films is that he tells stories from an alternative viewpoint not normally given an airing on TV and in cinema. Too many people are sucked in by the trash that’s churned out as entertainment.

  28. ….PFayr supports WeeOscar

    indeed.

But how far will season ticket money take King?

  29. This bloke Warburton has been a manager for 5 mins . Okay on the face of it he did ok at Brentford but why would their chairman get rid of him ?

If he was any good he would have been snapped up by an English team.

The fact he has ended up at Sevco tells me he is a duffer!

The financials at Ibrox make no sense ..a significant cash injection is necessary …ST money won’t cover bills …the stadium needs necessary work done ..as does the training ground …the squad is threadbare at best

Warburton will rightly encourage ST renewal …nowhere near enough to keep the lights on tho
