Ordinary looking Celtic fail to show

1243

Despite a remarkably solid defensive record, we have lost four and three goals on our two visits to Ibrox this season, although two of yesterday’s goals were lost with a two man deficit.  We were deservedly a goal down before Cha Du-Ri was ordered off and the contest irrevocably skewed.  Several Celtic players looked panicked from the opening minutes and it wasn’t until Kris Commons started to menace the Rangers midfield that we appeared comfortable in possession.

Until then, we looked pretty ordinary.

After a remarkably consistent run of games that ensured this season’s league title is Celtic’s, two big games, which could each have delivered a trophy, have been lost.

The drive to the line which is needed for teams to fulfil their potential is not there yet. It will come. Days like yesterday, months like October, are what team building is all about.

If you need a pick-me-up, enjoy The Celtic Family video above, its’ sure to hit the spot.

  1. Neil Lennon, and his minder, should wear video cameras at games, like plod does, so that the officials’ ‘honest mistakes’ are confined to the pitch.

  2. Sorry lads but Stuart Bathgate, the Scotsman and a fair and balanced article on Neil are not bedfellows.

This was simply taking the chance to have a kick at our manager and how they are enjoying it.

Ask yourself what the tone would have been had Sally misbehaved.

  3. Silver City Neil Lennon on

I’ve only read about the elbow assault by McCulloch on Brown. Was this an exaggeration or should it be in front of the video review pannel? How agrieved should we be if it isn’t brought before them?

  4. Just a question that I was pondering;

Why are there so many huns appearing on the tv these days? were they all invited up for the derby game.

Trevor Stevens was bumping his gums about how he wants a quick resolution to their problems(that they know all about),why does an Englishman have such fervour towards them?

Since he retired, Steven has worked in the media. In his early career he worked as a co-commentator for the BBC during their coverage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Steven now acts as a pundit for RTÉ Sport in Ireland, having covered the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany for the broadcaster. 6. The harlot hacks are doing what they always do, the pack in an attempt to see off that which they fear and they fear Neil Lennon and Celtic. Strange a few words from Neil Lennon about an indescribably incompetent referee and dark forces gather and vitriol in harmony with bigotry hails down on Neil Lennon. Strange we never heard these same harlot hacks tell the world how repulsive it was that a man, albeit a Nothern Irish Catholic who happens to be the Celtic Football Club manager, but a mere mortal man nonetheless, was subject to mental tortures and physical assaults that is unprecedented in any sporting environment the length and breadth and history of the UK.

I’ve heard some say that certain individuals within the press wanted Neil Lennon quietened, regardless of method. Serious allegation and disturbing regardless of veracity. What I find most disturbing though… I found it hard to disagree with their evaluation of the harlot hacks.

The fans that hover around Rangers like flies around putrid rotting flesh, or some thing like that, have started to accuse our manager of having no class. Every time I read another of those imbeciles advance this particular insult, I fall about laughing. It is hard to put Rangers, supporters and class into the one sentence, but when you achieve it is a hilarious achievement.

Hun fans saying Neil Lennon has no class. These are the same huns whose team defrauded the taxman for lots of millions of pounds; and they don’t want to pay a penny of what they owe back. This from a team who were so deep in the mire with the bank rather than pay the bank back its dues these uber-classy Rangers fans threatened to close their accounts and picket the bank. These are the same fans who en-masse gave the Nazi salute to their opposing fans in Isreal. These are the same fans who were relieved when Craig Whyte bailed them out by paying off the bank, albeit with money acquired from Ticketus, and now that it has to be repaid what do the snob classes propose, they propose not to pay back another of those who extended their vile existence by giving them a sub.

And they dare to suggest anybody other than they themselves is classless….

Worst of all though are the green huns who are turning on Neil Lennon. Last October saw so many break cover and nail their true colours and character to the mast. Time has been a fond companion to the events that proved they shot their bolts too soon.

Some might say it is class to stand shoulder to shoulder with one of your own who is being crushed with adversity, I personally think it is not class at all, it is nothing more than your duty and countless thousands do it without a frown or a whimper. The Celtic end at Ibrox was recently full of such characters, Neil Lennon’s friend to a man and a woman.

There is an old saying that when the water reaches the upper decks of a sinking ship – follow the rats. I don’t know where those rats will lead the huns but I hope the green huns decide to go along for the craic too.

  9. On the subject of NL and his impassioned responses to events in the game:

In the past year at work, I have been under a bit of stress and at times have not behaved in a fashion that I am proud of. That stress is nothing to what NL is going through. Yes, he should control himself but he is only human. I am amazed at how well he copes actually.

For all those out there firing shots at him, describing how badly he behaves etc…, just put yourself in his shoes for a minute. How would you cope?

The MSM continually point to how well Sally is coping with the stress etc… Hey bozos, at no point has he had his and his family’s life threatened. How often has he been assaulted? How many bullets has he been sent? How many close friends has Sally carried a coffin for recently?

Sally has had to deal with the day to day running of a football team that’s it. It’s not up to him to run the administration. That’s Duffers’ job.

NL has that to do on top of all the off field stresses.

NL deserves support and a medal for what he has done in the past year.

    Enjoy the title party NL.

Next year will be one long party….

Lenny wishes he was at home

The Celtic boss says he has witnesses to support his claim he didn’t swear at ref Calum Murray before he was banished from the dug-out for the second half of Sunday’s Ibrox loss.

But SunSport understands Rangers staff have backed up the whistler’s allegations that Lennon DID use bad language in the tunnel.

Hampden chiefs have now asked Lennon to respond to a charge of continued misconduct.

Yesterday’s latest charge relates to THREE separate incidents.

Lennon is accused of spending the first 45 minutes directing a torrent of abuse at the fourth official Iain Brines which prevented him from doing his job properly.

He is then said to have ranted at the officials as the teams went up the tunnel and is alleged to have swore.

His subsequent reaction at being told of his punishment was also taken into account.

It’s thought Brines was a key voice in the decision after Lennon persistently questioned Murray’s calls.

Fourth officials are now involved in the decision-making process during a game — but Brines was forced to take his eye off the game to deal with Lennon instead.

Lennon is also understood to have been made aware of the public order issue after reacting wildly to a first-half flashpoint.

His complaining at the break was the last straw for Brines, who advised Murray to send him packing.

The Celts boss had claimed he had witnesses — including coach Alan Thompson and PR man Iain Jamieson who would back up his story that he did not use bad language.

But the SFA are believed to know of other people present who insist that he did.

It’s thought Murray didn’t inform Lennon immediately as he didn’t want to interrupt his team-talk. Lennon then reacted at being told of his punishment before the second half started.

Murray was under no obligation to talk to Lennon at full-time and rejected a request from him. It’s thought that was done to PROTECT Lennon in case he talked himself into more hot water.

SFA Compliance Officer Vincent Lunny last night issued a notice of complaint after Murray’s match report arrived at Hampden yesterday.

Lennon will be given until Tuesday April 3 to respond. It’s then likely he will be summoned to a hearing.

Lennon has already been asked to explain his comments after the League Cup Final defeat to Kilmarnock in which he claimed ref Willie Collum cost the Hoops the Treble by not awarding a last-minute spot-kick.

It’s the second time in just over a year Brines has been involved in a bust-up with Lennon while fourth official.

He was the man who pulled Lennon and then Gers No2 Ally McCoist apart at the end of the Old Firm shame game in March 2011

    Wagons being circled I fear.

Anyone remember Sir Walter shoving the fourth official in an attempt to lamp Mixu Paateleinen a wee while ago? No? Must’ve imagined it…

  17. Just three quotes from Stuart Bathgate’s article to expose the rhetorical tricks behind his “reasonableness” :-

ONE day, Celtic will lose a big match and their manager will accept that the better team won fair and square.

Does anyone remember Neil’s comments after the 4:2 game at Ibrox earlier this season? No? Maybe that’s because they don’t fulfill the narrative hypothesis which Stuart Bathgate is keen to set up on the basis of two recent outbursts by Neil. On both those occasions a Celtic player was involved in an incident where a player was touched and went down. Despite being victim and perpetrator in these two events, the Celtic player involved was the one chosen for sanction by the referee on each occasion.

BTW, I am aware that Neil did not agree with Charlie’s sending off in the 4:2 match but he made that point calmly and did not exaggerate its impact, after a lengthy acknowledgment that we were poor and Rangers were, by far, the better team in the second half.

Does anyone remember Neil’s ranting at refs after Ross County? No, so it probably does not count as a big match either to Stuart.

The definition Stuart is using of a big match is one where Neil rants about a ref.

Right now, it is hard to see Lennon developing that ability.

Not so long as I’m here to paint the stereotype and give succour to the bigots who are hounding him in this country. Can anyone cut and paste Stuart Bathgate’s contribution to addressing those who see Neil’s railing against refs in a different light from those of Alex Ferguson, Wenger, Walter Smith, Ally and every other manager in the world? He could dictate it to himself in the mirror for starters.

He is an intelligent man, and a decent man, yet a wide cross-section of the public saw him as ignorant and thuggish.

On the basis of what? You’re a thug if you are assaulted in two street attacks and at a football stadium??

If this is reasonableness, I prefer Leggate’s honest hatred to this Sunday Post type mock horror and concern. I assume it is the likes of Bathgate who have so confused wee Tom English as he tries to sook up to the middle class Scots establishment who despise him unless he sticks to the rugger.

Honourable mentions to Ledley (consistency and golascoring threat); Mulgrew (huge improvement defensively); Rogne (starting to realise immense potential); Stokes (usually deadly); Forster (massive improvement on last year).

Victor would have been in the running, but his form has tailed off badly in the last month or so. His time will come. Hooper has been good too, although worryingly starting to exhibit Skippy-like tendencies…

Next year I predict big things from Kayal, Matthews, Forrest, McGeogh, and Wanyama.

Nice 1 mate thanks alot. Age or condition certainly not a problem. I’ve never used twitter before to be honest so wouldnt know where to start. If you can email me that would be great. Thanks again.

  24. SFTB,

Totally, totally agree. The worst kind of bigotry in Scotland is the type epitomised by writers like Bathgate. They hate Neil because he upsets their cosy suburban bowling-club view of the world, in which everyone knows their place and certain people don’t get above their station.

Essentially, Scotland the nation is a suburban bowling club with a mountain range attached.

Bathgate’s analysis of Neil is laughable, but poisonous too. I wonder what these people make of Alex Ferguson or Mourinho or Redknapp or Wenger? As far as I can see there are many, many more managers in the UK who lose their cool on a regular basis, yet none gets the opprobrium heaped on him that Neil does.

I spoke to an acquaintence in the MSM after Sunday’s game and his “analysis” was essentially similar. Celtic had “lost their discipline”.

Utter tosh. Neil takes an immense amount of flak for saying what we all believe…

…I really think it’s time Dermot stood up and backed him publicly. Unless we make it clear that we will no longer sit at the back of the bus, crappola like Bathgate’s article will appear again and again.

  25. When Neil Lennon reflects on the last two weeks I’m sure he will accept his tactics and the preparedness of the team hasn’t been all it should be. In both matches it has to be said the Celtic teams were less committed than their opponents. Personally I’m of the opinion the team’s performance was a contributing factor in Lenny’s frustration with the referees. However, in saying that I still think Collum and Murray’s poor decisions proved decisive but it shouldn’t have mattered a jot if the team had played to their potential.

  26. Allgreen admin heaven on

POTY is a tough one as IMO no player has been great. Lots of good performers but not exceptional.

Mulgrew and Ledley have been good generally but in both games at Ibrox and cup final poor.

Forrest looked a sure bet a month ago but again he’s fallen away.

Player’s like Samaras and Forster were being hunted in the autumn so not really player of the year candidates IMO.

My nomination is one I never thought I’d see, Scott Brown. consistent and not afraid against the Huns.

  27. Like many POTY is a hard one as so many players have had great spells and terrible spells or went missing in big games or been out injured.

How about an exchange scheme where you get a couple of quid off a new strip if you buy it each year from a club shop when exchanging your old top.

  30. Can’t agree that the Scotsman article is in anywats balanced.

taken an isolated situation and made it the norm.

Even outwith that criticising referees and continuing to battle is apparently doomed to failure. Somebody better tell Swalex and Jose before they don’t win anything.

  31. Celtic FC better get Lenny some very good lawyers as there is no doubt the SFA are out to get him.

Ian Brines is a very bitter man, this was the idiot that gave the penalty against big Danny when Gollum was facing the other way.

We need to get out of this league pronto but it seems that we are stuck here.

What i cannot understand is this, way are hated that much that the haters are causing civil unrest. Why can’t Salmond apply pressure on the SFA to assist Celtic through UEFA to relocate us to another league.

Lenny must now boycott all media until this league is over and done.

Our team must focus, no more underperformers and Lenny must stop with the negative tactics. Would love it if we started pressing teams in their own half again, this sitting back and sideways passing is driving me nuts.

    Ktf Celtic get top lawyers.

  32. Matt Dickinson of the London Times did a fair and balanced article on RFC tax evasion and SFA exposure in the whole process on Saturday. He advised he was up for the game on Sunday. In his article yesterday he described the Cha incident as a foul not a red card. He also quite correctly challenged Celtic for not delivering during the game.

Compare and contrast to the Scottish media defending Callum Murray ( letter of law argumentation given by Sally being the party line).

Its clear the comments by Lenny about Collum denying Celtic the penalty last week have reopened the old wounds amongst the SFA refereeing fraternity from John Fleming ( Hugh Dallas’s nomination as successor prior to Regans confirmation). This last time the SFA refereeing fraternity lost the battle , Dallas, Dougie Dougie and the referring special sub committee which had overtones of a Missippi Lynch Mob in dealing with the Celtic Manager.

On Sunday we had Brines standing over a seated Lenny acting aggressively towards the Celtic Manager ( if the roles were reversed it would have been a straight red for Lenny). During the game we have had 2 red cards, an offside goal given against us, ledleys penalty not given and mccullochs obligatory elbow to the Celtic captain.

This time the SFA refereeing fraternity led by John Fleming is out to get Lenny. THe appointments for the big games have been hand picked by Fleming : Collum for the Cup Final , Murray for Ibrox. Fleming will appoint Craig THomson for the cup semi final. He has previous in Celtic HEarts games , sending off Ledley for a 50 50 challenge and the manager on the same night.

We all know the Team has not been firing on all cylinders in these last 2 games, hence making the referees impact crucial. We need to ensure that for the semi we over deliver on the park to compensate for THomsons refereeing.

I know some Celtic fans who have doubts about Lenny as manager for different reasons ; however the doubts are put to the back burner when we have an orchestrated campaign targeting our Manager. This is the time we need to fully support Lenny and deliver the double. We cannot let JOhn FLeming and the SFA refereeing fraternity to succeed where Dallas failed.
