Ordinary looking Celtic fail to show

1243

Despite a remarkably solid defensive record, we have lost four and three goals on our two visits to Ibrox this season, although two of yesterday’s goals were lost with a two man deficit.  We were deservedly a goal down before Cha Du-Ri was ordered off and the contest irrevocably skewed.  Several Celtic players looked panicked from the opening minutes and it wasn’t until Kris Commons started to menace the Rangers midfield that we appeared comfortable in possession.

Until then, we looked pretty ordinary.

After a remarkably consistent run of games that ensured this season’s league title is Celtic’s, two big games, which could each have delivered a trophy, have been lost.

The drive to the line which is needed for teams to fulfil their potential is not there yet. It will come. Days like yesterday, months like October, are what team building is all about.

If you need a pick-me-up, enjoy The Celtic Family video above, its’ sure to hit the spot.

  1. We are witnessing the death rattle of the huns, we knew this would happen and it’s not pretty. But in the grand old scheme of things it doesn’t matter what they do – we’re still winning the league, and they’re still getting liquidated. Eyes on the prize.

Someone said on twitter: them beating us on Saturday must’ve felt like winning the bingo on the Titanic. Ace.

I’d go with Brown and Forster but its a toss up between a number of candidates.

There have been a lot of very good consistent performers including Ledley, Mulgrew, Samaras, Wanyama, Forrest etc but no one stand-out player of the year.

I think it will be an interesting vote and I’ve no idea who will get the nod.

So you think Neil should carry on with the same strategy as he has been doing for the last 2 years ??

Or maybe you think he should shout louder – be more aggresive – how about headbut a Ref??

That will work everybody will listen then and all will be OK

Neil needs to find a communication style that gets people listening to him and not dismissing his view as some kind of rant

Neil needs to be clever not loud or aggressive

I think so too. Pretty remarkable how its been the same ref from playing days leading to management days.

I’ve tweeted to Lenny myself that Ive noticed it, that its on print and also caputured in image. Take him to town I say.

Funny that it was Eddie Smith who denied Lennys stonewaller that day at Ibrokes also.

  7. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Neil’s too angry, wgs was too sarcastic. Can’t remember the criticism that Martin came in for but it was there – I think he was tagged a bad loser.

Wee pattern of successful Celtic manager meeting undue press criticism. I listened to every word of Neil’s interviews on Sunday and the only adjectives I can think of were magnanimous, calm, incisive. No praise in the press for this after the unique circumstances he had to tolerate. This wouldn’t fit the agenda.

Where was the outrage at Sally’s attempt to get at Neil during the shame game? Why does this photo not accompany every 2nd article on his managerial style. When was the last time the cardigan’s attempted assault on pattalinen (i think it was him & apologies for spelling) and numerous other face contorted, angry outbursts and contempt for the press was brought up?

I suggest the agenda and editorial tone are set before a ball is kicked in anger.

Keep it going Neil. If they are so critical you’re obviously doing something right.

You’ve been ‘had’, mate: suckered by seemingly neutral, even sympathetic language from Stuart Bathgate (in today’s Scotsman).

This guy’s latest offering is just another partisan and odious piece, so typical of the MSM standard to which many of us have become accustomed. You simply have to learn not to take guys like Bathgate at face value.

For example: I loved this bit from Bathgate: “It’s not primarily for the sake of greater sportsmanship that he should learn to curb his wrath, even if that is what many of his critics rightly want him to display. It is for the sake of his club, for his performance in the job and for his longevity as a manager.”

Who’s he trying to influence or convince?

Is the guy seriously trying convince his readers that he gives a flying fart about Neil Lennon, or Celtic, or the good of the game?

And how about this for yet more disingenuous clap-trap: “… while some of the bile directed towards Lennon was clearly sectarian, many people with no such axe to grind had formed a deeply negative impression of him … He is an intelligent man, and a decent man, yet a wide cross-section of the public saw him as ignorant and thuggish. He knew he should do something to try and change that misconception, not so much for his own sake, as for that of the club.”

And then this: “Right now, it is hard to see Lennon developing that ability. And unless he does, it is hard to see him making a long-term success of football management.”

As brilliant an example of Scottish old-media wishful thinking as I have ever come across.

For good measure and especially for the benefit of Stuart Bathgate and anyone else who might be interested, here’s how wikipedia defines criminal negligence: “one of the three general classes of mens rea (Latin for “guilty mind”) element required to constitute a conventional … offense. It is defined as an act that is: careless, inattentive, neglectful, willfully blind”.

The decisions of Collum and Murray can easily be argued as falling into this category.

Lenny’s one big, indidputable problem is that he’s the manager of Celtic. And a successful and outspoken one at that.

  11. This is funny from the Daily Mail.

Tranmere youngster Danny Holmes is set to snub a move to Liverpool after setting his sights on a move to Rangers.

The 22-year-old full-back has impressed in 19 outings for the League One side this season, attracting interest from Tranmere’s Merseyside neighbours.

But Holmes, who spent last season playing non-league football on loan at Fleetwood Town, is ready to move north of the border to Scotland, where he believes his chances of first-team football would be considerably better.

SPL champions-elect Celtic are also monitoring the defender, whose hopes of securing a move to Ibrox could be rocked by the current financial crisis gripping the Glasgow giants.

‘I have spoken with Danny and he would love to be a Rangers player as he wants to play at the highest level,’ his agent Jonathan Hope told talkSPORT.

‘I have had open talks with Rangers regarding Danny and it was looking positive until the current crisis at Rangers happened. This will soon be resolved.

‘He will improve the team and it’s important to me as his agent to ensure that he goes to the right club.’

So agree to differ and let it go. Comments alluding to Neil performing a ‘headbut’ (sp) on a ref are not helping.

Do you have access to CelticTV? Neil has an interview most Thursdays and numerous press-conferences and if you don’t think he has ‘a communication style that gets people listening to him and not dismissing his view as some kind of rant’ already then you’ll not be swayed.
