Ordinary looking Celtic fail to show

1243

Despite a remarkably solid defensive record, we have lost four and three goals on our two visits to Ibrox this season, although two of yesterday’s goals were lost with a two man deficit.  We were deservedly a goal down before Cha Du-Ri was ordered off and the contest irrevocably skewed.  Several Celtic players looked panicked from the opening minutes and it wasn’t until Kris Commons started to menace the Rangers midfield that we appeared comfortable in possession.

Until then, we looked pretty ordinary.

After a remarkably consistent run of games that ensured this season’s league title is Celtic’s, two big games, which could each have delivered a trophy, have been lost.

The drive to the line which is needed for teams to fulfil their potential is not there yet. It will come. Days like yesterday, months like October, are what team building is all about.

If you need a pick-me-up, enjoy The Celtic Family video above, its’ sure to hit the spot.

  1. Thought we looked tentative and nervous till Aluko scored. Then we started playing. With composure Stokes should have scored. Enter Murray stage left with red and this game’s was always going to be very hard. Until Wanyama’s red we were nothing great but we were coping. The first late goal came about five minutes too late.

  2. Well, gorbalstam, 18 points clear to be exact.

Would have been 24 if we hadn’t BLOWN it yesterday !

Make sure that blindfold’s not too tight.

I remember when Tanner started doing sports section with STV news.

I could not believe how bad he was and I have seen some poor performers over the years.

He could not even breathe in the right places.

I often wondered with whom did he have contacts or with whom was he sleeping to get a job in broadcasting.

  4. Now got huns telling me we wont win the League on Sunday no matter the result if they beat Murderwell as we will ONLY be at most 18 points ahead and there are still 6 games to play.

    ffs, desperate or what…

A bit of me hopes it’s true to see how many tickets Killie give us after last season’s hunfest there.

  5. Something that really worried me yesterday was the huns attempt to do the huddle. I feared that they were practising to come watch the celts next year!!

    MadMitch,

I noticed after sammi aplauded another dodgy decision, that the ref got a message on his earpiece, looked like he was told of sammi’s action, his face contorted. Have a look.

There are no relevant excuses for not publishing the discussions the officials have on their communications during the game, except they may lead to investigation about bias.

Will be talking to a very good tech friend to see if we can intercept the communications signal.

Aye, let’s play the game then. What do you believe the future holds for Ragers?

They will reject the FTT findings.

They will snub European competitions next year.

They will get SPL to rule that only Scottish teenagers are allowed to play in the league.

They will get SFA to introduce a wages cap which will be set at Minimum Wage level.

Have no fear. There is a simple enough test that can eliminate them. Just don’t allow anyone into the ground whose knuckles drag on the floor.

  9. SCOTT Brown has praised the Celtic support for their unflinching backing during Sunday´s Glasgow derby – a sentiment shared within the rest of the dressing room.

And the Hoops skipper insists there is a deep desire among the players to repay the fans by delivering them the SPL Championship.

Reduced to nine men, following the red cards issued to Cha Du Ri and Victor Wanyama, Celtic were trailing 3-0 at one stage but that merely caused the Hoops support to raise their noise levels at Ibrox.

It helped inspire those on the pitch to pull two goals back in the closing minutes, almost completing an incredible comeback.

And while the three points which would have earned Celtic the title were not forthcoming, Brown is determined to lead his players across that finishing line in a swift manner.

“The fans were great from the first minute to the last,” said the midfielder. “We know they’re going to be chanting and cheering us on. It kept us going and showed in the 85th and 90th minute when we were still going to create chances.

“I think support deserve the championship as we haven’t won it for four years and it will mean as much to them as it does to us to win the league.

“Everyone was a bit low at the time. But now thinking about it, we have two games in which we can hopefully lift that trophy and we want to make that as sweet as possible now.”

Brown is a winner and was naturally disappointed not have earned maximum reward from the fixture. With the disparity in numbers between the sides, though, that was always going to be an uphill task.

And the captain was proud of his team-mates for their resilience, resolve and togetherness in the face of adversity.

“I think they deserve a lot of praise as we went down to nine men and we scored two goals against a team who were trying just as much to create more chances and score goals against us at the same time,” explained Brown.

“But they couldn’t do that and we went up the park and scored two goals and it shows you the team spirit here.

“That´s the character we have here. We are a young team, a fit team and no matter what, we are going to keep fighting. We don´t like drawing games or losing them but it wasn’t to be.

“It shows that even when we went down to nine men and it was really hard for us that we never gave up the fight. We always go to the end.”

And now Brown and the rest of the squad are focusing on the weekend clash with St Johnstone at Celtic Park, knowing a victory may be enough to lift the title.

“It´s another game to look forward to,” added Brown. “Hopefully we can get our minds off the Rangers game and get a result.”

  11. Shame game 2011

RFC get 3 players sent off. 1 of whom manhandles ref. Both Diouf and Bougheera berate the ref. McCoist says something to Neil Lennon which causes further trouble.

Stuart Dougal says SFA right not to punish Bougheera further.

    No – shame game 2011

Celtic get 2 players sent off, neither of whom appeal the decision or manhandle the ref. Bocanegra accepts his red card (not like he could challenge it) . McCoist waits at the tunnel to shake all the Celtic players hands , (as my wife noted) making sure the cameras spotted him, being a decent dignified brown brogue wearing chap that he is.

Stuart Dougal says referee was right to send off Celtic players.

Are we having a summit this year ?

The only original things the huns have are either racist or sectarian or both.

Everything else is stolen from other clubs or us…just like our titles.

    Stupid Hurting Huns!!

  15. i cant believe i am paying sky the guts of £100 per month to have to listen to guys like tanner and jim whyte and then bringing on a former disgraced referee to tell us every decision was correct even the Lenny one that nobody knows what was said/happened

ffs – since when did putting you hand on a players shoulder cause their legs to give way a la wallace? – not 1 person on sky has questioned this

when stokes is standing a yard onside and the flag goes up for offside and yet the same linesman cant see wallace standing a yard offside for the 2nd goal – not 1 person on sky has questioned this

Big Vics tackle is a straight red according to everybody on sky but not 1 person has even seen the tackle by Whittaker on big Vic and again nothing mentioned

Whittaker wrestles Ledley to the ground in the penalty area – again nothing mentioned

Sky supposed to be impartial? not a chance

  16. Honest tim,i see when someone tries to engage you in an educated debate

you ignore him,too tearful for you to think of the huns demise?

  17. I hope the huns do win on Saturday, as there is a good chance they will be our first home game after the split and will get to see us parading the trophy! :)

  18. TV evidence shows Bougheera manhandle Calum Murray

Stuart Dougal “He wasn’t threatened, there was no violence and in his eyes there was no aggression towards him.”

No-one sees what happened in the tunnel between Neil Lennon and Calum Murray

Stuart Dougal “He must have said something abusive”

Would I be unfair to label Stuart Dougal as a filthy hun apologist

  19. The more you think about it the more the game yesterday was just another 3 points. The league will be ours and it wont take long to wrap up.

I know I think you are joking but there will be discussions to make sure that the two events will not coincide even if it means that the trophy is presented in June …… or by post.

I had a chance to watch hoghlights again. Changed my mind. I would give red to Cha.

The reason of the change is that now I very doubt Charlie Mulgrew had a chance to block Wallace, or his shot. Fraser Forster was last man.

  22. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire@15.00

    Good Question!

Not really sure of the ‘rule’ on that one but me thinks they have to advise the 4th official at the end of the game that they wish to do so or make the request to the officials at ref’s room after the game. It is then up to the ref if he wants to speak as there is no ‘right’ to speak to him.

Hopefully there is a referee that follows the site that can let us know. Obviously as they are a ‘Tim’ they will not be allowed anyway near garde 1!

  23. I take it there will be a PC this week for Neil to tell the facts of what happened at HT yesterday, rather have disgraced ex ref dougal ‘assume’ what happened…hunbelievable!!

When it happens im sure Neil will point out that if it was a red for Vic then lets look at the legbreaker from whittaker. If the ref ‘missed’ it at the time then lets have a look at it now and hand out the correct punishment which i take it would be the same as Vic’s.

Im sure Neil wont miss them. The reason they hate him so much is because their scared of him.

  24. !!Bada Bing!! on

Stringer Bell- Paterson’s first reaction was to protect the hun” i thought it was a fair tackle” some things will never change.

  25. So Stuart Dougal was in the tunnel? I only assume he was as how else could he makes those comments

  26. Zbyszek – you are correct, Mulgrew was not affecting the chance at all. The replay clearly shows he was making no attempt to close Wallace down and was a good 10 yards away, he was covering the centre and leaving the goalkeeper and Cha to deal with the direct threat.

I think Murray’s inconsistency and his definition of injury time have left a lot of people angry but in my opinion he got that technically correct. It ruined the game.

thanks for information, heres hoping for a victory

just a we note about yesterday,as has been mentioned super swally waiting at tunnel, there is something in that what annoys me alterior motive,of the celts passing him i think Anthony gave him cold shoulder

    Now you’re just being silly

How could Dougal be in the tunnel when he was up in the Main Stand weaing his ‘Govan’ scarf? :)

  30. forget my last post – the link isnt working

its an ex ref -jim mccluskey with a mic/earpiece sitting just in front of walter no surname

why is he microphoned up and to whom?

  31. He listens to the officials during the game.

You may remember that during DougieDougie this equipment was not working properly throughout the penalty incident.

  32. Hollow Victory:

Have left it 24 hours before posting – wasn’t at the game nor did I watch it live on TV. Listened to R5 Live, have read the blog, seen the highlights and replays.

Have watched the Cha red umpteen times and despite the benefit of replays and freeze-frame – cannot justify how any ref can cobble together the whole scenario (in real time): Cha’s position .v. Wallace, pull or push, ball control or non-control, direction of ball and player (in relation to goal), Mulgrew and Foster’s positions or their anticipated move towards player or ball.

Verdict: unsure – therefore yellow and free kick.

Victor both feet off ground marginally (one foot studs showing) – gets ball – player hurdles him.

Verdict: gave the ref the option – red card (soft but correct). Offence is committed first – irrespective of what the opponent did following the foul (doubt ref would have seen it as retaliation).

That said – once again we revert to type when we shuffle the pack to accommodate a stand-in left back. If Izzy was fit enough to make the bench – he should have been on the park.

Despite the off-side and the comeback – our players were dominated today. I say players cause that was never a team performance!

Lightweight midfield …….. bypassed time after time by a hard working opposition ……… A novice right-back played at left-back ………..

Players show little sign of tactical awareness – nobody appears capable of organising their area of the field when under pressure particularly the back 4.

There is no definable team shape – no consistent tactics that allow us to control a game – no ability to inject change from the substitutes bench. Some good young players (and many better than average) – we have no seasoned pros and no leadership.

An extract (in italics) from my previous post: after the 3-3 .v. Kilmarnock game!

What disappoints me is Lenny’s quote: “they started the game well as we expected them to do..….” If that was the case – then why did the coaching staff set-up the team (as we did) with an unfamiliar shape, personnel and tactics?

IMO we should have tackled the game in the same manner we did at Tynecastle – yesterday we should have made a statement: this is how we play football (and we are only going to get better) – this is how we’ve won this league – this is our young team (take note it has asset value) – this is what Glasgow Celtic (its Board, Management, Players and Fans) are all about and will be indefinitely!

We gave them (what I hope is) a last HOORAY – an unfortunate marketing opportunity to a bankrupt and immoral institute (and their ilk) – a Hollow Victory!

I look forward to us lifting the title (my 24th time) on Sunday and their demise sometime soon.

    H!H!
