  1. Well, a lot of new and a few rare posters have caused a bit of a stir on here. Not all of them will be Kev J multiple log ins but we do seem to attract some controversialists when Celtic suffer.

Nobody can be happy with Celtic’s fate tonight. 7-1 is a severe humping regardless of mitigating factors.

I am not celebrating FC Hollywood’s win over Anderlecht but I am relieved that they did so as it will make Celtic’s chances of earning more money, to improve the defence, more likely.

We knew and we know what we are getting with Brendan Rodgers. To ask him to change his philosophy is just wishful thinking, a delusional aspiration and, above all, a moot point.

He has patiently explained what his philosophy is. He has patiently explained why he will persist with it. He has ridden out the same storm at Liverpool without compromising. If you want the philosophy changed you have to accept that you want Brendan removed as manager. Anybody want that? Well, apart from our rare visitors tonight, I expect 99.9% of celtic fans to say no.

So, complain all you like- I will join you in bemoaning our sorry lot tonight but….. don’t bring Brendan Rodgers and a change in philosophy into it because it is wasted words.

I’m for strapping in and enjoying the ride. There are more than enough good times to make up for tonight and other Euro defeats.

We last enjoyed post-Christmas European football in 2015. Before that , it was 2013 and before that it was 2008.

So, barring an unlikely result at Celtic Park on 5th December, we are in a good place, speaking in regard to recent European football history.

When some guys return to FF tonight with tales of discord sown and our own controversialists have got their rocks off, the choice remains/

Stick with Brendan and take the rough with the smooth but don’t expect him to become something he is not.

Or get rid of him and take a plunge backwards.

Park the bus and you learn nothing. You have capitulated before you leave the dressing room. Occasionally you get lucky like we did against Barca. I’m not embarrassed that we tried to play football. I’m very disappointed by the score and my blood boils when no class genius tries to rub it in. But this is what it is. And I’ll live with Brendan making the calls. No need to spare my blushes.

    ———————————————————————————————————-

Spot on Tobago, I am not embarrassed either and I am glad we came to have a go. I was brought up on the legend of a group of young lads with the hearts of lions who showed the world how the game should be played. It would have been a betrayal of our history and of the lads and lassies who had travelled to Paris if we had parked the bus from the kick off. Brendan had a go and we fell short, He then made a change which stemmed the flow for a bit but unfortunately PSG are more than just one level above us. Thoughts now turn to Sunday and Ive a feeling the hurt that the players are currently felling will be put to bed in convincing style. Special mention to Bitton who I though did well concidering where he had to play.

Sure the blog will be full of gloating flute players like DANSO_ 2012 ,who I notice only joined he blog when PSG went 3-1 up. Let them enjoy their little bit of schadenfreude as they haven’t had much joy in their short life . For them this is as good as it will ever get

  3. Painful defeat but we won’t be the last to suffer at their hands.

We should have strengthened defence in summer but to be honest it might have got us a draw against Bayern but wouldn’t have prevented defeat against pig (might have reduced the pain a bit).

But our ethos should be to keep getting better and the lack of a new centre back was a big mistake.

That said Brendan has admitted that and I hope will fix it.

We won’t learn how to defend in the Champions League while we are celebrating winning 10 in a row against domestic dross.

But i suppose that 10 in a row will no doubt be the pinnacle of some fholks ambitions for Celtic FC.

Mickybhoy, no it’s not, I, and only I as far as I know on here, want to do their 54.

Is that not how you make a living etc.etc.

Europe is mega beyond us, I accept that, the sooner the Management do the better.

  5. Just back to the hotel room. Feeling emotionless, expected nothing less than a doing. Had 4-0 been offered prematch I would have said thanks very much and goodnight.

They are an incredible team but ultimately a fraud. Hopefully they won’t win it but if they do I’m sure some of the other big boys will start asking questions about fair play.

    Roll on Sunday.

    Cool, I’m just hurting.

  9. Celtic losing 7-1 is more a reflection of how money is changing football than it is on Celtic.

us V Anderlecht will be more like a `proper` football contest.

    Good points.

But Porto were also a team of cheating bassas.

And Portuguese traditionally have a conveyor belt of non-Sheidt players from Brasil.

They were more street-wise than us in Seville.. add in your usua weak UEFA ref and ..

    “Roberto é seu tio”..

I would never want us to go down the Porto route.

We are worth more than that.

  12. Oh aye and when we are talking of financial disparity being a factor in games

Basel spent £3.78m in the last window their opponents tonight spent £148m

Basel are sitting 2nd in their group ahead of CSKA and Benfica,Clubs with more financial clout than Basel will ever have

Are we or are we not a bigger and more financially rewarded club than Basel are

Last season we were oot on aggregate against all 3 clubs we faced in the group stages under the old format

We seem to be learning nothing

  13. JJ

It’s not the financial disparity that pisses me off so much, although it does.

It’s the feeling of inferiority the players seem to enter the field with which impacts their usual game. Playing with fear means game lost before you start.

That said I think we played better in attack for the most part and should have scored another and gotten a pen.

Ah well,Mrs BT have just had a wee TET a TET ( fecking French) because I don’t take defeat lightly

  15. My question tonight would be why so many think the Anderlecht game is ours to lose.

Pray tell, what makes us immune to a bad result?

  16. Mickynumbnuts,

Co-efficients, eh, (Swiss based) the National team don’t play friendlies and Country co-eff rises.

Therefore, they have CSKA and Benfica in their group.

Now, how would we do, in that Group, as opposed to our current Group no, please tell??

  17. Frambo

Because we are 3 goals up in the head to head tie and it is rare, but not impossible, that we would lose by 3 to a team of that calibre.

Just look at the odds for Europa qualification and you’;; see that even neutrals think it unlikely we will get a abad enough result.

That’s the estimation most of us have- we are likely to get through but a disastrous is not and can never be an impossibility. Who knows? We might even lose to Sevco at some time in the near future.

  18. SFTB,

Nope, want us humped 4-0 at home.

Not as bad as PSG or is it?

Forget level of opposition, we seem to.

    I only want Invincible Trebles x 6 :-)))

  19. Setting free, it is a possibility, we could lose to Anderlecht. But Sevco will go bust before they beat us!

  20. Hotsmoked (10.54pm): I haven’t read back and won’t do so. I’m sure there is far too much drivel to waste my life away reading, but I will post my offering on my FB page after the match…

    ——————————————————————————————————————————-

Well that was another lesson in how to play “the beautiful game”… get a billionaire Qatari investment consortium to splash cash like there’s no tomorrow.

To compare the respective cost of the two teams “competing” in Paris tonight, Celtic’s starting 11 plus 3 subs cost a combined total of £20M, while Paris St. Germain’s starting 11 plus subs were snapped up for a cool £643.5M. In fact 9 of PSG’s 14 players who played at some point of the match cost more EACH than Celtic’s 14 combined!

Furthermore, PSG’s much lauded superhero, Neymar, could actually buy the entire Celtic team from tonight (with the 3 subs who played) twice over with his gross annual salary, and still have enough change left over to pay about 75% of their combined annual salaries. That’s just Neymar’s earnings alone!

So the biggest surprise in the 7-1 scoreline was that Celtic actually scored one… and only conceded seven.

Perhaps UEFA should change their FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules to decree that the result is determined by the cost per goal scored. In which case Celtic, at £20M per goal, would have won handsomely when compared with the almost £92M per goal that it cost PSG.

Celtic ⚽ Paris St. Germain £££££££££££££££££££

    ——————————————————————————————————————————-

And to the sniggering interlopers on the forum tonight, I say only this:

I’d rather watch my team lose 1-7 in the Champions League to the best football team on the planet than not be in the competition. I much prefer that to losing against UEFA’s (currently) 422nd ranked team, who finished last season a distant 4th in the 48th ranked (of 55) European national league!

  21. It’s funny, if Brendan beat PSG the media would say “he’s too good for Celtic, Celtic will never hold onto him”

He loses against PSG and it’s “Brendan will never achieve anything here. He needs to move on for his own good.”

    Spot the agenda, lads.

  22. Big Chips UK

Agree. PSG make an absolute mockery of FFP. It’s ludicrous – simply oil cash diverted straight from the the Qatari treasury to the pitch. The money they spend is not in any way “earned” – it is simply “given”, but disguised as sponsorship and the like.

  23. We are tourists, we are tourists at the moment.

Laughing stock and then some — EL you are having a laugh.

All is not lost — good few city breaks for the middle income amongst us.

Few things knocked off the bucket list while claiming it was all about football.

We didn’t lose because we didn’t have the talent.

We lost because we didn’t have the attitude and character to compete.

Any CL team with QF aspirations will have watched the game and thought PSG are there for the taking.

  24. No way I would want Celtic to park the bus but surely at times you have to change the set up and tactics according to who you are playing. While I don’t want Gordon just punting the ball aimlessly upfield neither do I want to see him punting the ball out of play trying to find his full backs, the result is the same giving away possession easily.Iam struggling to see what we are learning being stuffed 7-0,5-0,7-1 that we didn`t already know.I don`t think its good for the morale of the team or the travelling support.

  25. For those imploring the CFC board to throw £5-10M at strengthening our central defence, I’d be interested to hear which players in that price bracket would be happy to come and play in Scotland and the SPL.

In fact, if we had £20-30M each to recruit a couple of top players, I still can’t think of any who would come to play in the SPL.

Now if we were in the EPL, that would be a whole different matter!
