  1. And then there was the performance by the ref — could he have been more annoying with his positioning? He seemed determined to get in our way at every opportunity chasing after the ball like a wee boy in the playground.

And then we hacpve the SPFL fixture secretary putting the LC Final right bang in the middle if the CL calendar. You can almost imagine the wee sly smile when that idea was dreamt up.

To those suggesting we should turn our back on European football due to its inherent inequality and corruption: I suggest you try following a different sport. However you might be disappointed to learn that last years tiddlywinks world championship was recently embroiled in a match fixing scandal, and the West Sussex Netball League have had questions raised during intermission about the sell-by date on the tin of prawns used for the half-time sandwiches.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

Aye right and in the meantime keeping lining up to fund a competition that is rigged in favour of a few elite clubs. And some on here say the huns are stupid. Oh the irony.

There is an alternative. If the the rest of Europe woke up the fact that Uefa’s fat cats and elite clubs need us more than we need them and then acted as a united bloc then things would change for the better.

Till then, continue to pretend that being regularly shafted by the elite clubs is worth the crumbs from the rich man’s table. Playing in the CL is fast becoming the football equivalent of prostitution for the vast majority of its participants.

Sorry, I am not sure I am getting your point here.

    ————————

Was being slightly facetious, but would 5-0 v PSG be more acceptable (it seemed and still does seem to be) than 4-0 v Anderlecht.

As I’ve said before couldn’t care for Europe, take the money (and embarassment) and bury their 55.

I know some people think we should be judged on Europe, I never have – different Universe so, bury the 55 and, tis also were most Celtic fans spend their money.

PS, Did we get a fine tonight from UEFA?

    Gordon Strachan v Brendan Rodgers?

Who do you think the Celtic ( or Scotland ) fans think is best?

Anyway, so we’re all ragin, pure ragin because it was seven when everybody would have accepted three or four.

Same score as Barcelona in BR’s first season and we still have the same level of player PSG are arguably better or as good as Barca were then, Celtic have swept the board last season and probably this, and we are regarded as having improved our squad.

BR laughed out loud in the BT interviewers face when she asked about ‘defending’ because he’s a manager and she’s got a microphone, he’s on record at the AGM saying we needed a Centre Back.

Bitton was dropped in favour of Jozo and had to play emergency full back, and it showed

Who should we have played? – what tactics should we have used? – lots of fans have bought their tickets for the Anderlecht game where as predicted by loads of CQN’rs who actually regard Euro football Celtic’s level would be decided.

Brendan Rodgers selected his side and told you how we would be set up, we don’t do parc des bus, and we scored unlike the last time we conceded seven.

It’ll rebound on Motherwell and Anderlecht because we’re an attacking side too good but only up to our level of player defender or otherwise.

    M.O.M. Dembele

  5. Just logged on , don’t really fancy reading back . PSG are a prime example of how football sold its soul .

Brendan won’t change his philosophy and neither should he . Dominating possession while winning in Denmark and Belgium is the measure to judge him by ,not tonight .

European football after Christmas , yes please . Context required.

  6. Hugh Bonkle fae Dallas on

Ultimately it doesn’t matter about tactics, players need to do their jobs. Yes PSG are a far better team than us but they didn’t need to be to win tonight. Our defending was terrible. Goals 3,4,5 and 6 were embarrassing.

We could and should have defended better.

I’ll now commit the ultimate heresy, he’s our only superstar but KT had his worst game tonight. Cavani’s 2nd goal was terrible defending by KT. It’s his only below par performance so he’s forgiven.

Out players aren’t good enough to play our normal game in Europe. There’s no shame in that but let’s not commit the same mistakes over and over again. PSG broke the record for goals scored in the group stage with a game to spare, 12 of these were against us. Brendan is a legend but he has to change it up in the CL.

  7. Feck me

tired the game aff at 4-1

    Knew they would score mare

7-0 5-0 7-1 canny get used to the hammerings depressing

    Unacceptable man for man against

    PSG is mad

Tierney is our only good defender

    it’s like watching Scotland

we’re now a joke in Europe

Better no say nuthin as I will be told I’m a sevco fan

  8. It is Celtic that is the Future.

Brendan had Callum and KT stopping the PSG left wing Corners, he put KT on the trickery short corner

The Celtic Schooled players will be Superb, in the Future….when all is Well.

Well are going to feel a force so strong.

Some on here need to give their head a serious shake. £300m on two players. Sure there is a lot of things we could and should have done better like retaining the ball and passing to players wearing a hooped shirt

I will stop you there. We lost that game so heavily tonight, because we cannot pass the ball under any sort of pressure.Thats the basic tenet of playing football, and we find it impossible at times. Before the game,Big John said”Winning your personal battles with players you are up against,is the main thing.Do your job well, and the rest will follow”We did none of this. Our best passing players kept giving it away. Our best defenders, could not mark players.

I dont expect to beat the best team in the world, but for Gods sake,do your job.

It is not tactics it is attitude and appetite.

We were spineless at worst and immature at best.

We carved them open at one level then watched them score with ease at the other.

We had given up before a ball was kicked.

We were surprised to get a corner never mind score.

We played like a team who steamroller weak opposition at an U16 level who come up against a team of men.

How many 70/30 balls did we not even challenge for?

We played as if it was a bounce game — for a laugh not a result.

The attitude in the squad and the team stinks.

Flat track bullies who cannot deal with real opposition.

It started from the top by way of the dugout.

Unless things change, really change it will be the same next year.

If we had applied ourselves, if we had believed in ourselves it would have been some game.

The home grown players let us down.

  12. The only players who put in a shift were MD and ON.

Not sure if their U21 games for the NT meant that they had more belief and less fear.

  13. Mbappe took advantage of Kieran working his nuts off to skin him.

So we should not have a plan B.Playing attacking football is OK against teams around ,and a wee bit above our level, but when you play the best, you must have a different outlook. We have lost,17 goals against the top two in our group in 4 games. How is that remotely enjoyable to watch. We are selling ourselves to players on the hope they will play CL football. With our recent record, who cares?.Can anyone see any lessons being learned?.I cant.Same mistakes, same bad decisions, same shocking defending, same sloppy passing.

Anyone trying to say anything different from this honest truth, are talking gash.

4 goals worse off ? They must have had some tankings.

  16. Hate to see my team lose at any time never mind as heavily as they did tonight however……

The reason PSG have Cavani and not Dembele is because Cavani is the better player. Same with every other player in both teams. Man for man they are just much better than us.

I just viewed tonight as a learning experience for your younger players. Another game against top notch opposition. They will get better as a result of this.

Also Europa this year is progress from last year and with a good draw next year i hope for last 16 of CL.

We may have five to ten times the budget of SPL teams but PSG have about fifty times our budget.

Maybe the defensive frailties shown up tonight and in this campaign will mean we get a top class centre back in January sales! :-)

    Thanks for the clarification.

I agree that we get our glory, titles and trophies, in the domestic arena but, for me Europe has to be about more than the money gained.

We have to have goals and aspirations but, having been European make weights after our golden period (66 to 74) we only got 2nd tier respectability after MON came and after WGS and NFL got us to last 16 of CL on 3 occasions. We have since gone backwards to a Europa (mostly non-qualifying level). This year, if the Anderlecht result goes the way we hope, we get a chance to get back to being a 2nd tier team. Brendan has said he wants to move us from 4th seeds to 3rd seed level, we will progress inch by inch, scratching and clawing our way past the Maribors, qarabags, Copenhagens and Apoels, hoping to reach the levels of Basel, Olympiakos, Benfica etc; Once there, we have to consolidate and avoid slipping back to where we have been. The prospect of us even reaching Shaktar level far less the level of teams from the big 5 leagues is negligible, if current circumstances prevail. You can only aspire to achieve within your capabilities and potential as my campaign to win favour with Michelle Pfeiffer demonstrates.

P.S. Although we have a 4 goal advantage over Anderlecht, a 3:0 win for them would result in a 6 goal swing, eliminating our 4 goal advantage.

  21. 2006/07 spending plans — £4mill for a player.

Who would have been the better buy?

EC straight out of SA vs SB straight out of Leith?

For the record I think MD has the ability to be a better player than EC — more strength and speed.

Still some way to go as a finisher.

Tonight’s game was meaningless other than a step in the development of this project to form Celtic in to a respected force in Europe.

Good we were tested and put to the sword. We learn very little domestically so as painful as tonight’s gubbing was I honestly believe it will inform Brendan’s plans going forward. Both additions and disposals.

The £7m doesn’t compensate but for me stretching further and further from Sevco financially softens the blow.

Tonight doesn’t define Celtic..it tells me more about PSG if truth be told. I’ll judge Celtic in Europe further in to Brendan’s reign…tonight is early steps in the longer journey.

That’s not being defeatist it’s being realistic given where he started from.

  26. Turkeybhoy.

Context old boy , context . We are where we are . Every year ,when we’ve not been in the “Champions league” the gap between groups 1&4 has grown and will continue to do so.

In a couple of years we might be a group 3 team if we keep adding to our co efficient . We will have a better chance with Brendan in charge whether he has a plan B or not .

Dry your eyes . It’s fantasy football at the money driven top level .

Its still better being inside earning and learning ,despite nights like tonight

  27. Celtic started very well and had good composure with the Ball against such high quality – It had them conCerned, as well.

I reckon KT needs the Young Ones through ASAP, or he will bring indecision into his game as he learns more – CL level. Every decision is vital, he made as many mistakes as I’ve ever seen.

Brendan knows who he has currently that is Big Game.

  28. I don’t really care about the huns laughing at us, it’s the thought of the rest of Europe having a really good chuckle at poor old Celtic and those in the know that had PSG on to win by five or more goals and are now laughing all the way to the bank
