Harsh truth: Brendan should speak to Gordon Strachan about how to defend at this level. Gordon did it w lesser players and defenders.

None of the teams Scotland played under Gordon Strachan, not even the mighty Engurland were of PSG quality. That is not to excuse our poor defending tonight, …..simply an observation.

  2. After the last PSG game I posted an alternative to the Champions league current format

Which changes next season to allow more of the so called elite league teams direct entry to this competition

Change is needed, many many big clubs, from the so called smaller leagues, simply cannot compete

    Still Love the Celtic

  3. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Bhoys against men Boyata tonight was a bomb scare we found it difficult to pass the ball to another Celtic player and Broonie just bypassed .PSG are a class side but on aggregate it was 12-1 now I dont like loseing but 12-1 is nothng short of shocking and Jozo is not match fit in my opinion in Europe Brendan has a lot to learn if we have at least to become competitive. We need to sort out the centre of our defence it was weak before the season started and it is still weak now.Not great preparation for a cup final on Sunday now is the time for Brendan to earn his corn. H.H.

  4. PSG will not win the Champs Lge. Because they play in an inferior French League at least that’s what the EPL crowd say. Looking forward to the Anderlecht match should be a great night.

  5. Bayern hold on to win.A small crumb of comfort tonight, but tomorrow morning,a massive crumb.Did not watch the second half of our game.Just cant watch us getting humped. Some big changes required.Eboue needs brought in.We have to see how much he improves. We need a CH that can follow the runs of the striker. We will have the cash, spend it.Dembele will go in the summer.Big money. We need some quality, buy it.

  6. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Oglach – no we don’t. Anything better than 2 goal defeat gets us through.

I don’t see anyone celebrating Bayern victory. Just thankful for it.

No one on here has posted something like

YESSSSSSSS BAYERN score. Brilliant Bayern. Or anything like it.

  7. Guys,

A few posters have hit the nail on the head; perspective.

Yes wa made them look good at times and we displayed some schoolboy errors, but they really are a great team. I said after the game at Parkhead, possibly the best team we have seen .

It seems absolutely ridiculous, but our overall performance tonight was possibly better than last weekend .

Financial disparity is a fact in football , whether it was greater tonight or last weekend is irrelevant. We are where we are.

Roll on Anderlecht after we murder murderwell .

  8. Brendan’s stubbornness in how he approaches these CL games against the best teams is the same stubbornness that has helped us to our 64 game unbeaten run at home.

We will add players in January and then in the summer and will have another go next year.

The Europa League is almost certain this year let’s enjoy it and hope we keep improving.

  9. “SHOOIE on 22ND NOVEMBER 2017 9:47 PM

Does the fact we are getting a hotel make anyone feel better ?”

My understanding of how utterly financially skewed the game is makes me feel a lot better. Your complete lack of understanding of this is disappointing though.

  10. Getting gubbed is not good for morale, so spare us the pish about it being no big deal losing these games. The invincibles tag looks kind of hollow when you are shipping 7 goals in a game that you were supposed to show we had learned from the previous encounter.

It must also badly dent the reputation of BR amongst his peers and potential future employers not to mention his own ego. He cannot or will not set up a team to play against superior opposition with damage limitation the priority, just consistently sticks to the “we will play the game our way regardless of who we are facing”.

Perversely, this is good news for us domestically as he is not going to be be getting any offers to go to any other top team in Europe and he doesn’t have to worry about facing better teams here.

    20 in a row coming up :)

  11. Gordon and Lenny worked out ways of not getting beaten 7-1 away twice against very good opposition. That’s not really good enough however you look at it

  12. FAN-A-TIC

We gave them so much tonight, due imo to they are better players mentally, they have everything, they have the fitness, they have the tech ability, they have the ability, we are miles away from them.

We buy the best players we can afford, we have the best in scotland, they can buy the best players on the planet, fitness in a way has nothing to do with it.

Some people are geneticly apt to be fitter that others, they cost money, serious money that we don’t and will prob never have.

    HH

  13. Park the bus and you learn nothing. You have capitulated before you leave the dressing room. Occasionally you get lucky like we did against Barca. I’m not embarrassed that we tried to play football. I’m very disappointed by the score and my blood boils when no class genius tries to rub it in. But this is what it is. And I’ll live with Brendan making the calls. No need to spare my blushes.

  14. Anyone yearning back for those halcyon days where there was no real financial disparity will be disappointed.

We are where we are – but we shouldn’t be losing 7-1.

  15. For our first couple of adventures in the CL, we avoided embarrassing scorelines like this.

But the last couple of years they have become more frequent. It definitely marks the arrival of a super-elite: PSG, Barca, Real, Man City… teams who are global machines, funded from God knows where, rather than intermittently successful national champions.

It’s tough to take, and its annoying to hear people like Hartson and Lambert – who never in a million years faced this kind of quality – pontificate about it.

Tonight, of our outfield players, Moussa, Ntcham, Kieran, Forrest, and Biton did well.

Brown was overrun, and McGregor ineffectual. Rogic looked like he was playing with lead-filled boots.

Boyatta and Jozo were rubbish, Dedryck looked like he completely bottled it, sad to day. Young Eboue looks the part though.

Not much else to say, other than achieving Europa League football will be an achievement for a Pot4 team. I dout we’ll get any credit from it, but hey ho…

Oh, and Neymar is a thoroughly dislikeable character.

Oh, and Rob McLean is too.

  16. Reality check needed. PSG HAVE spanked every team in this group including Bayern who have a great CL pedigree. It’s like you or me taking on Arnie Schwarzenegger at arm wrestling. We can have a go but we aren’t going to beat him.

I see the usual suspects are in tonight and nobody is biting. Cop on, yer team’s deid, noo beat it.

  17. TOBAGO STREET

    Post of the night!

Brendan explained exactly why we play how we play, we’re a pot 4 team trying to be a pot 3 team if we go into the Europa league we’ve achieved our aim for this season and next season will be a new goal..

  18. Cowiebhoy: I noticed that about Nayclass. Completely ignored all of the Celtic players at the end.

We were hammered but no excuse for that.

  19. Soz and Ribert

My hotel point was a bit tongue in cheek, apologies for this not coming across !!!

Hopefully there will be some investment in the squad too.

  20. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Glad to have this game out of the way.

It was always going to be a case of how many. Celtic @ 28-1 ?

The difference in class was as suspected and well enough as Bitton played, we missed Lustig’s experience at the back.

We can’t fault our effort. Nobody hid, even though the game passed by Brown and Rogic.

PSG are on a different planet, football wise.

Rodgers has been quoted as needing to strengthen his central defence, so we learned nothing new tonight.

Roll on Sunday to show Cadden, Hartley et al what we are all about.

  21. Big Goerges Fan Club and Wee BGFC

I am just grateful of one really decent performance to take us to Europa albeit after a poor start in that game also highlighted by consistently making poor passes early door in that game.

We will never be able to compete at this level. It is not something worth celebrating. At least make the teams work for their victories. It is saddening.

Not being able to compete should not though mean that we accept poor quality football when in possession giving away easy slack passes and defending properly. A

All it does is give us a greater financial advantage over teams here in Scotland.

    MWD

  22. Tobago Street et al – “Park the bus and you learn nothing”.

I’ve said the same thing to this point after other thumpings, what if a place in the next round or passage to the the wee tourney comes down to goal difference? We know we are not getting three points from these games but surely to hell we can set up the team so that if/when that scenario occurs we have been street wise enough to give us a chance of going through?

  23. As I recall the football that Gordon Strachan’s sides played was described as turgid, whether domestically or in Europe.

    It drove bums off seats.

We cannot have it both ways.

I’m listening to Tom English sticking the knife into BR totally dismissing the quality of the two teams that have handed out our biggest defeats. Barcelona and Bayern.

His argument is that BR has to find a way to change his style for 4 games over 2 seasons whilst also dismissing where we have competed against top clubs but not in tge PSG /Barcelona bracket.

    Total malevolent tosh.

Pat Bonnar made the point abut PSG’s finishing. It was top top class and it’s goals that make winners.

It’s over. We have a League Cup to win on Sunday.

  24. Given a level playing field no team should ever beat a close rival in a cup competition by 7 goals to 1……..oh wait a minute!

    Still a handsome proud Tim

  25. To those suggesting we should turn our back on European football due to its inherent inequality and corruption: I suggest you try following a different sport. However you might be disappointed to learn that last years tiddlywinks world championship was recently embroiled in a match fixing scandal, and the West Sussex Netball League have had questions raised during intermission about the sell-by date on the tin of prawns used for the half-time sandwiches.

  26. Can’t see what we learn from a 12-1 aggregate pumping, apart from perhaps we aren’t very good at defending!

Anywho hope Lustig’s injury isn’t too bad, any news?
