Performing with an edge, naked opportunism

1065

If you were a professional football player, you would love to be in the Celtic dressing room tomorrow evening.  You would have the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself; put in a big, meaningful performance.  Record a bit of history and create a uniquely memorable victory.

There are some players who are fraught with anxiety on such occasions, but there are others who NEED these games, need an edge, to reach their peak.  If we have a team full of the latter, Legia are in for a torrid night.

I’m doing my best to ignore the naked opportunism in our media this week.  There is no point complaining about it, lose heavily and you become vulnerable to those who live to revel in a Celtic defeat.  Don’t lose and you don’t give them (friends and foes alike) a chance.

We’ve been here before.  Artmedia, Braga, Utrecht, Sion (despite the reprieve) and Karagandy all exposed an aching heart.  European football is unforgiving, try to transition and you’ll find someone ready to exploit, but that doesn’t mean you are wrong to transition.

We might talk about this transition more later in the month but we have a game to win first.  Can’t wait.

Check out the fantastic work by the cyclists who are taking part in the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014 on 6 September. You can join them – all you need is a bike. Get involved, you’ll be delighted you did, I promise. Read about it here.

  1. Tojo…. I heard about 5 mins of it last night and there was Deidco fan on saying that they had been cleared by a high court judge and that everyone owed them an apology… he didn’t mention all the money that was never paid to HMRC or ay of the other 200+ (?) creditors.. no one on the “panel” even disputed the guy…. then I hear Keevins going on about how we are in disarray and a shambles etc… did we not just win our 3rd title in a row ? Are we not competing in the CL (At the moment of writing this).. are we not odds on to win a 4th title ? Meanwhile the 21st century REFORMEDationists are a league below, have no cash, have fatty as a manager and are still waging war internally and externally but it’s us that are in disarray ?

    Oh my dear god….

Tony D, Rangers metamorphosis doesn’t bother me as much as the willingness amongst the Club and some of the support to see them back.

I never want them to return to play us again.

However, their defiance of nature, law, physics … You name it in getting themselves where they are now just makes them even more unworldly. Über über.

The thought of the current Celtic coming up against them including team, board and supporters makes me sick. They will stop at nothing to win while we play at football economics.

  3. The BBC reporter, talking of tonight’s debate, says he thinks Darling will look for answers as opposed to assertions from Salmond tonight. I do hope he tries. Doubt he will get any. I haven’t heard any yet.

By the bye, I won’t be deciding my vote on tonight’s debate. In fact, I doubt if I will even listen to it. The SNP don’t speak for the Scotland I wish to live in.

  4. ***LUNCHTIME QUIZ***

    Short sharp easy one today…

Name three former Celts who have played for three European Cup winning teams.

(Note: this does not mean they had to be with the team at the time of winning the Big Cup)

***The rules of the game are always the same.

Any mention of the £15m debt to HMRC run up by Whyte?

You know, the one that was indisputable and actually done them?

    Naw? Thought not.

Airbrushed from history that he never paid a penny. And that was why they faced HMRC with a controlling call on the CVA.

The jerseys have shrunk, the suits have shrunk, Celtic have shrunk, to fit inferior ambitions.

    Criminal.

  9. Bobby….. Whyte owed money to HMRC ? Where are you getting this reckless statement from ? You need to watch you don’t get done for slander here fella…. that’s a wild accusation with no proof to be found in Scotland…..

  10. In response to one of his questions, I’d like Salmond to respond, “well, Darling….”.

Now, that would amuse me. Little else will.

Celtic to maybe scrape a small win or draw tomorrow I think.

  11. BMCUW,

Of course I’ll be up for it, wouldn’t miss it.

Looking forward to going back to Celtic park and meeting up with the rogues from Cqn.

Todays Daily Ranger reports that the Legia keeper may be a doubt for tomorrow night. Was advised against playing at the weekend there as wasn’t 100%.

He played and picked up another injury.

Like others have posted, would like to see him put under as much pressure as possible should he play.

We as usual make it easy for the msm.

Appoint a manager with no European experience

Appoint an assistant with a history of man management issues

Admit to there being a price for xy z player.

Bring in a goalkeeper who hasn’t played for 2 years and a 6 month loan signing whilst letting go a talented young player.

Lose the first real test by a large margin.

Give your home ground away for the most important games of the season

Flip side to every point here but we don’t need the MSM to invent poison we do it all so easily for them. It’s a right easy story board for them this season.

I was supportive of Ronnies appointment and still am because I thought he would not be niave enough to play as he did last week. This could all have been avoided if someone had just checked with Ronnie how he would set up for these games before we gave him the job. It is absolutely fundamental that we get these games right. We transition from one hand to mouth crisis to another. I hope we don’t go from skin of the teeth stuff to guaranteed no hopers in Europe but there seems to be an acceptance at the club that that is the way if it.

  17. archdeaconsbench on

    More than three surely?

Lambert, Di Canio, McInally, McClair, Crerand, Dublin, Macari, Lee Martin, Dalglish, Larsson, Liam Miller, Alan Thompson….

Or have I read the question wrong?

  18. I have to laugh when people have a go at the MSM for being negative about Celtic.

Has anyone been reading this site for the last month or so?

I put it down to the death of the Huns.

Too many people on here miss them – they need them.

    Why is that

They are like them , bigots and bampots

Some of the stuff on here recently is depressing, it’s hateful and in a lot of cases it’s personal.

If supporting Celtic is just to hate Rangers then count me out – not how I was brought up I’m afraid.

I would suggest that if you can’t say something positive – just say what you think – once – but don’t keep saying it ad nauseum – my scrollbar is ready to pack in

  19. Come 18th September, I’ll be voting for independence not for snp, then in the subsequent Scottish general election I will vote for a real socialist labour party.

As for the big debate, salmond will wipe the floor with the thunderbird extra!!.

    Yes yes yes.

Isis have probably killed more muslims than the US Uk and Israel combined..

For such an extremist muslim group they havent attacked many Israelis

    —————————————————————————–

Only because they believe they have more pressing business to take care of first :

“Salafists such as ISIS believe that only a legitimate authority can undertake the leadership of jihad, and that the first priority over other areas of combat, such as fighting against non-Muslim countries, is the purification of Islamic society. For example, when it comes to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, since ISIS regards the Palestinian Sunni group Hamas as apostates who have no legitimate authority to lead jihad, it regards fighting Hamas as the first step toward confrontation with Israel.”

I’m guessing if they ever achieve the “purification of Islamic society” (whatever they think that is) then they’ll focus their attention elsewhere.

  21. ***Today’s winner is BMCUWP***

    Give that man a coconut.

You got Henrik, Rambo and Di Canio

You could also have had Cascarino (Celtic, Villa, Marseille) and I am sure 1 or 2 others.
