Perhaps Airdrie United could rebrand as Rangers United?

1122

I’ve spoken to a few Rangers fans over recent months, the base line of acceptability has been redrawn many times.  If you read back on what was presented as reality on 13 February, when Craig Whyte announced that while it was “business as usual” he applied to the court for a 10 day period to appoint an administrator.

Back then, administration was abhorrent, but suggestions of liquidation were regarded as outrageous.  On 22 February Celtic Quick News asked questions about Improper Registration of Football players, was it possible that Rangers results would have to be re-written as 3-0 defeats for a decade or more?

In March Rangers director (still, I believe) Dave King sent out a new baseline, liquidation was inevitable but there was no question that titles would be taken off Rangers.  Even this concession to liquidation was disputed by the Blue Knight and Duff and Phelps.  Publicly, both still hold to this line, although Duff and Phelps use some creative ideas to get there.

Most now know that liquidation is inevitable.  A few understand that the SPL inquiry into player registration is likely to result in five or more league titles being reallocated to Celtic, but I don’t hear anyone accepting the reality of the situation.

Rangers don’t have a buyer, primarily as the administrators don’t have a stadium they can sell.  Even if they try to remain in administration for next season, Ticketus own the majority of their income.  It will cost countless millions to pull a deal together, much more than the £11.2m Bill Miller considered putting on the table, and no one is coming up with that kind of money.

In the unlikely event these problems are resolved, whatever club emerged would have to deal with the fallout from players refusing to join a Newco and becoming free agents, football fines debts from Oldco, SFA penalties, Newco penalties if preferential treatment is provided in order to get them into a higher league, and SPL penalties for Improper Registration of Players.

There are two simple solutions.  Form a new club, ask to share Firhill or Love St – or better still, rent Cathkin Park (reset ambition for Rangers as the new Third Lanark), and apply for entry to the Scottish Football League.  Alternatively, co-opt a lower league club, maybe Airdrie United could help, rename it and spend however many years as it takes trying to acquire whatever parts of Ibrox survives liquidation.

This is a controlled and predictable way forward, a concept not delivered by Duff and Phelps, totally in the control of whoever wants to harvest fallout from the demise of the Rangers brand.

  1. Reading back there are some people I want to give a real shake to as they are missing out on so much joy.

I have said this before, do you guys have any idea the times you are living in? Do you realise what you are about to witness?

Most here will have been Celtic men genetically, passed down from father to son. How many in your genetic line are no longer here? How many of the dearly departed have been anguished at their antics over the years? How many would be REVELLING in watching the retribution?

My grandfather went to Lisbon. He was also in Milan. He had seen it all watching Celtic. The highs and the lows, however I know for a fact if he was around today this period would bring the most satisfaction. They have cheated since their inception. Their nature borne of supremacy and hatred, a hatred they have been open about. That sort of institution ALWAYS has a shelf life. That sort of behaviour is always corrected.

Karma is cruel and elegant in equal measures. You reap what you sow. the universe is currently collecting it’s dues from that club AND their fans. They owe alot. They don’t have enough in their karmic bank to pay so it is Karma who is doing the liquidating. Their fans latent racism and stupidity chasing away the guy who could have saved them was a beautifully delivered coup de grace.

Think of Rangers as a body. That body has been stabbed multiple times, has lost all bar a pint of blood, has had it’s legs cut off and throat severed. Yet people here are still worrying it is going to get back up.

IT IS DEAD. IT IS NOT GETTING BACK UP.

There won’t be a share transfer as there will be nothing to transfer a share to. There won’t need to be an SPL vote as there is going to be nothing to vote on. They are now in a considerably worse place than they were when D&P took over. NONE of the major obstacles have been cleared and in fact several new ones have landed in situ. You are now going to watch a liquidator carve up Scotland’s Second Greatest Institution like a Christmas ham then get to watch several parties jostle for the affections of Mingwall the Hutt and his horrible little cronies.

When your grandkids ask what you were doing when Rangers died do you want to say “ate Jelly & Ice Cream” or “whinged about potential rule diddling that turned out was never on the cards anyway”.

For God’s sake boil the kettle and get your bowl out……

I dont see what is wrong in asking for more clarification from the authorities when obvious rules are broken and exceptional activities arise. Putting it on the record so to speak. But no it is clandestine politburo stuff. To do so would be the correct thing to do an it would help to communicate our position without saying much at all but we are not even afforded that respect Why ?

Leading to the inevitable perception of unnecessary subordination. Confidence is gone forever with regards the footballing authorities. They will be wishing for the good old days of the referee strike.

Folk should read the note of the meeting between the SPL and Celtic Trust at

http://www.celtictrust.net/ and click on the link there.

Doncaster and football authority’s strategy is pretty clear from this should a Newco ever apply to SPL for Membership, and now that bidders know the SPL are willing and the SFA and UEFA are standing back there will be other bids.

The strategy is to treat Rangers like any other insolvency events in England where the relevant authority allowed clubs back in with points sanctions. However none of those clubs stand accused of the crimes against the tax payer and Scottish football to the huge extent that Rangers do if the FTT finds in favour of HMRC. Even if it does not there is still the case of improper registration and on that Doncaster is disingenuous in suggesting UEFA will not be involved. It affects games played in UEFA competition.

He has not mentioned the club license aspect either which depending on how the SFA decide to interpret their own words is subject to UEFA FFP standards and/or National Club licensing standards. A club license cannot be granted Newco under either although using National Club Licensing as their standard allows the SFA to make an exception without referral to UEFA, whereas if UEFA FFP standards apply the SFA HAVE to make a case to UEFA for exemption. That UEFA are taking a hands off approach is worrying, but if they do stand back and say/do nothing they risk their FFP policy being severely damaged to save Rangers and Scottish football from its folly.

This salami slice approach to the issue of Rangers wrongdoing must be challenged for Rangers are not being judge guilty of three or four charges equivalent of jaywalking that treated separately allow Doncaster, the SPL and SFA/UEFA, if they are complicit, to treat an application from Newco as a straightforward insolvency event. Nothing like this has happened in UK football before in terms of scale and deception and it should be treated accordingly.

Attempts by the SPL to transfer to Newco (should one phoenix) a membership share before all Rangers misdemeanours are made public should be resisted and the SFA and UEFA should be asked to make a statement about why club licensing is either being ignored or not applied with the rigour required. One of the purposes of licensing is to protect football and the clubs in it from dodgy dealing ,so what is its point if it is not being used to do that? (There will be more on this by tomorrow)

No doubt the CST/CSA will come out with a statement of their stance once they have considered the implications of what Doncaster revealed, but spread the word to supporters at large about the true nature of this “fix” so that the salami slice approach fails.

Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy will ‘reflect on his own position’ after expressing fears over the future of Rangers.

American tycoon Bill Miller was handed preferred bidder status last Thursday ahead of a rival bid from Kennedy and the Blue Knights consortium but has informed administrators he will not pursue his interest any further.

Duff and Phelps are now evaluating three other bids for the Glasgow giants – which does not yet include a fresh offer from Kennedy.

Kennedy told the Daily Record: “Words fail me. All my worst fears are coming to pass. In the meantime, I am reflecting on my own position.

“I’m not trying to be a smart ass here. This was a clear sequence of events. I could see it, every Rangers supporter could see it was likely to unfold.

“And yet here we are, in an even more perilous position than ever. My worst fear is that we could see a padlock on the gates of Ibrox.

“I don’t give a monkey’s about the Americans pulling out. I care about the damage that has been done in between and where it will all lead to.

“When someone predicts a sequence of events ‘A, B, C, D and E’, and when ‘A, B, C, D’ happens then you’ve got to think there is a good chance ‘E’ will happen too.

“If anyone is going to step up and do something then they’d better do it soon. I will reflect on this and will be talking to those who were considering investing with me.”

Andy Kerr, president of the Rangers Supporters Assembly, urged Duff and Phelps to “move with the utmost haste” to secure the club’s future.

He told BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland programme: “Let’s be open, let’s be honest, let’s fully understand another false dawn is going to be the final nail in the coffin.”

Asked if the game was up for Rangers, he replied: “I don’t think it is up but we are in a critical situation and things need to happen very, very quickly.

“I very strongly urge Duff and Phelps and the people they are currently speaking to to move with the utmost haste now.”

Miller said preliminary information he had received about the club was “more optimistic than reality”, and also made reference to opposition to his takeover bid by Rangers supporters.

One of his advisors, Club 9 Sports chief executive Jon Pritchett, said the businessman received “vitriolic” emails from fans.

Referring to the emails, Kerr said: “It would be interesting to see one or two examples and just try and understand what sort of people were doing that.

“We saw a couple of banners and we’re talking about a few people here, and it is disappointing when people are effectively prejudging the guy.

“The general call from the supporters was, ‘Who are you? Give us an explanation of what you are trying to achieve. Let’s try and work together and engage with you and see if we can take the club forward’. That’s where we wanted to be.”

He added: “I just don’t think that he had an understanding of the business, what was going to be involved to turn the club round, the precarious nature of where we are and where we’re trying to get to.

“It just seems an odd scenario that someone from so far away was trying to buy into a 140-year-old institution.”

Great post and spot on. My grandfather was also in Lisbon in 67 (having got the ferry for 25 quid!) and is now no longer with us- he always talked in later years about something going on there which wasn’t right and would come back to haunt them. I suppose when you look at the bigger picture it was unnatural for a club in Glasgow, which had been in the doldrums for years, to start signing top England international players.

When I was growing up in the late 80’s/early 90’s I honestly remember thinking that if I see Celtic win the league once in my lifetime I’d be happy!

That is what many of us were brought up with- we now know what we were up against, but the older generations who could see the bigger picture knew it all along.
