Peter, you will never walk alone

311

Over the years I have lost count of the number of times I asked Peter Lawwell to speak up and defend himself from ill-informed nutcases who thought him too exertive or not exertive enough.  He continually refused, “What is best for Celtic?” was his repeated response.  The real world is not as conspiratorial as many seem to think.

The man’s sheer intellect towered over Scottish football for 17 years.  If you wanted to influence a neutral against Peter’s position, you needed your A game.  Most went home to lick their wounds, many of them resentful.  If you cannot outsmart him, blame his hidden hand, seems to be the excuse of choice.

The perpetrator of the fireball attack on his home in the early hours of the night will likely be caught; these types are seldom criminal masterminds.  Although we know nothing about who did it, we can be sure it was a male, that he lives in an ocean of inadequacy, and that he was radicalised by those who this morning believe themselves to have clean hands.  For the record, they do not.  The script on the lone lunatic has not changed in 100 years, to a man, radicalised.

It is a huge mercy that no one was physically harmed.  A decade on from similar attacks on Neil Lennon and his lawyer, the late Paul McBride, this could very easily have resulted in a loss of life.  Peter, you will never walk alone.

  1. Really saddened to read the nonsense of some agendas today

Thankfully Peter and his family escaped this serious incident un-scathed

I hope the perpetrator is caught and does time for this attempted murder of a family.

I may disagree with Peter, as I do with many other Celtic fans on numerous issues

Peter has done what he believes or has been directed as the best for Celtic

And although leaving under a dark cloud, with this seasons outcome

we can still thank him for his 100% dedication in driving Celtic and keeping us financially secure

    God protect the Lawwell family.

My daughter’s house was burgled some years ago – luckily they were not at home.

She couldn’t settle and moved a year after.

“we can still thank him for his 100% dedication in driving Celtic and keeping us financially secure”

    ——–

Agree with all in your post – I have selected the above extract as it encapsulates Peter’s tenure.

We do thank him. His dedication was indeed 100%.

He kept us financially secure when there were those among us screaming for his head (just like recently) because he held firm and refused to follow the road to ruin being taken by Rangers FC under Murray.

He was right then and, he was also right to keep the squad intact and give the manager £20m to spend at the start of this 10iar campaign. That was a statement of intent completely overlooked by those with historical scores to settle.

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Chairman is on record today admitting that mistakes and error of judgements have been made in his 20 year tenure at the club – he says:

“We don’t get everything right. It has never been because we don’t care about, or, respect our fans – nothing could be further from the truth”

The chairmen of every top club in the EPL could probably say the same.

So it was with Peter – a 100% Celtic man and no one should ever doubt it.

He delivered 29 major honours – a quadruple treble, 9iar and an invincible season. He has kept us safe, solvent and dignified in all our financial dealings.

He may not have got every decision right, but by God, he certainly got the vast majority spot on.

“The grass is always greener on the other side” – well let hope it is. One thing for sure, it is no given!

  14. When I lived in Queens Park, my flat was burgled but only 2 items were taken, my brand new video and a pillowcase. The detective said that they took the pillowcase so that they wouldn’t look suspicious, after I stopped laughing I realised that most likely inadvertently he had taken most of the feelings of being invaded away

  15. As Timaloy 29 said

“Somebody tried to murder Peter and his family last night. I wish the press would just stay away from them when they have obviously went through some trauma.”

The police have confirmed that CCTV shows that this was not a drive-by Petrol Bombing but a full on Arson attack on Peters Family and an accelerant was used on all 3 cars before they were set alight, The person was dressed all in black and was wearing a mask. The fact that the parking area had 3 cars at the house would have confirmed that the family were in the house, This was an attack on the family and was premeditated, I would argue that it is attempted murder.

Peter Lawwell was attacked because he is CEO of Celtic.

I am sorry to say that Peter and his family will have to relocate after living here all his life.

Next season’s Sevco striker Sakaka scores 2 goals today in Belgian playoffs against Shved’s team. They are already getting their ducks in a row while we impotently wait for months without an end in sight for a manager to be appointed. This week’s horrendous events may well lead to us being the bridesmaid, rather than the bride, and having to start over. One wonders if we have a cast iron contract with Howe, or the dreaded ‘gentleman’s agreement?’ I am sure that agents pay these no mind.

You, or any other poster, happy with how he dealt with Res 12 and how he treated those involved.

    ———–

I don’t comment much on Res 12, simply because I do not have all the facts. I don’t doubt the intentions of those who, even at this late stage, are still pushing for redress. Auldheid is a prime example – I have respect for him and he has a encyclopedic catalogue of the facts…as he sees them.

The world is not fair! The way I reconcile the disgraceful behaviour of Rangers FC is to look at the array of the consequentials visited upon them at the time, and over the following years. Had all that befell them been inflicted via punishment, I’m sure we would have been satisfied.

There is an undercurrent of ‘social unrest’, to borrow a phrase of Stewart Reagan, that will always be extant at Ibrox – it’s in the DNA. We see yet another example this last weekend. So those in our support who think that we can ‘kill off’ & ‘bury’ the *Rangers football entity are deluding themselves – it will never happen. On a slightly less morbid note, Scottish football without the ‘big two’ would not be worth ‘a hill of beans’ – that may be unpalatable to some, but I believe it to be self-evident.

Peter didn’t give a running commentary on every controversy. I don’t know why some cannot understand that in the real world you can’t rise to the bait on every occasion. Paul quotesa phrase he would use, “What’s best for Celtic?” I believe that is how he conducted himself.

    ###

    It’s nothing of the sort.

    …………………

    1) This is what you posted on Page one…

“ERNIE LYNCH on 19TH MAY 2021 12:05 PM

An alternative view of course is that last night’s events serve to show the futility and wrongheadedness of the Board’s approach.”

This passive sounding phrase clearly assumes that the criminal who firebombed a man’s house while he and his family were asleep inside is in fact, a disgruntled Celtic minded person exacting some form or revenge or retribution on the man that he AND you hold largely responsible for a series of woes at Celtic.

This suggests that Peter Lawwell deserved to be firebombed because his poor performance (in the mind of the alleged Celtic minded criminal and you) provoked the criminal into his action.

In other words…he brought it upon himself.

    2) In response to a question to elaborate on your initial post you posted this…

5 way agreement, same club narrative going unchallenged, TGD’s public comments about how wonderful the huns were, the stringing along and then unceremonious ditching of Res 12, all indicate a certain planned approach to matters.

The entirely foreseeable result and consequence of that planned approach has been footballing capitulation and humiliation on the one hand and triumphalist thuggery on the other.

It didn’t have to be this way.”

With this comment you clarify what you meant by your earlier post & explain why this victim of a crime which is one step away from murder (arson with intent to kill) has failed at his job, in your opinion. You appear to empathise with the criminal’s state of mind by explaining in detail the failures of the victim (again in your opinion) that provoked this alleged Celtic minded criminal to such criminal lengths.

Very clearly for you, his job failures are directly connected to his home being firebombed while he and his family slept. He brought it upon himself could not be laid out any clearer by you. You just wont say it but instead tease others on your grievances to be provocative.

    3) In response to a suggestion that “anyone suggesting that this attack is in response to the policies of PL & his board is is almost as unhinged as the perpetrators of the attack” you posted this…

That poster didn’t misrepresent your proposition at all. YOU connected the crime with the wrongheadedness of the board’s approach. You then took umbrage at being correctly being labelled “almost unhinged” so resorted to the ad hominems for which you are renowned.

    4) In response to one poster deploring Celtic fans offering excuses for this criminal act you posted…

“ERNIE LYNCH on 19TH MAY 2021 12:42 PM

That poster referred you to previous posts on this thread & to other blogs, but was in my opinion, too circumspect.

I saw it clearly in YOUR comments as outlined above.

    5) At the suggestion from one poster that you give it a rest for one day in slagging off the victim of this crime, you posted…

“ERNIE LYNCH on 19TH MAY 2021 2:12 PM

    SONSOFERIN on 19TH MAY 2021 12:56 PM

You know what, maybe take a day off from the Peter Lawwell criticism. Just one day, can we do that?

    ###

The criticism is only being made in response to the obsequious hagiography to try to maintain some balance.”

Your retort now claims that your ONLY intention in suggesting that he brought this firebombing upon himself was to provide balance, because you disapproved of Paul67’s genuine comments about the man. We both know from all of the above exchanges that this is untrue. You did not JUST offer some balance to those compliments from Paul67, you clearly proposed a cause & effect between his poor job performance (in your opinion) and the attack on his home and family. That isn’t bringing any balance at all but merely an excuse for you to attack what you dislike.

I note that at no point in your many posts did you actually condemn the attack itself or offer any of that famous “balance” to the attack on a Celtic fans home & family.

I repeat, this is not just wilful fire-raising (despite what the tabloids print) – that’s what children do when they set the bins alight: this is arson with intent to kill.

The criminal chose a time when the family would be home and asleep & set fire to 3 cars & the garage attached to the house.

I don’t engage with you on here out of choice. I disagree with most of what you post & cannot ever recall a complimentary post from you about any aspect of Celtic – but that’s your choice.

Today/yesterday you chose to assume facts to allow you to peddle your grievances about Celtic’s CEO.

We have no idea if the criminal is blue, green or even red, and we don’t know that the attack is even connected to his position at Celtic.

Significantly for me, while on your platform though, you could find no time for any thoughts or sympathy for a family who were terrorised.

I will continue to scroll past all your stuff & I’ll be grateful if you do the same with mine.

  24. Celtic do not need Scottish football, Scottish football needs Celtic. If Celtic (sadly will probably never happen), they would grow massively. One of the things that holds Celtic back is being associated with #######. I live in the North of Ireland. As a child, a sizeable percentage of my class in school would have supported Celtic. Now, very few school age children here support Celtic. Yes, a huge factor is the Sky/EPL effect. Another factor though is the perception of a Celtic supporter. If I had a pound for every time I was told that the only reason I support Celtic is (after all it can’t be the quality of the football they argue) because I am sectarian/bigoted. This is the reality of being associated with you know who. It allows for all the whatabboutery / two sides of the one coin stuff.

To get into a new environment would gradually help Celtic to establish their unique identity, an identity that appeals across faith, creed and culture. The Celtic vision that Brother Walfrid envisaged.

    I have a dream – at the minute it’s a fecking nightmare.

    Prejudice does that. Pre judge.

You’ve ‘clearly assumed’ something that isn’t there and is flstly contradicted by my other posts suggesting who I consider is likely to be responsible for the attack.

  27. GATEKEEPERS & WALL-BUILDERS.

There are those who set themselves up as model Celtic supporters, gatekeepers for the ‘true essence’ of Celtic. They will call you out as a non-believer if you deviate from their narrow definition of being a Tim.

They seem to believe, no, demand, that all things Celtic be untouched by the world we live in, and to view Celtic as part of, and influenced by, all sorts of extraneous & uncontrollable events, justifies one to be labelled a ‘heretic’ and other more vile names.

The truth to these individuals is only what they say it is and they would censor & ban all others with differing views.

It reminds me of a story a priest from our parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, used to tell many years ago. That priest was Father Johnston, originally from Rutherglen, although he always insisted that the correct pronunciation was “Ruglen”. He was the most un-pious priest I ever met in those days.

His story tells of St Peter giving a guided tour of Heaven to some new arrivals. As they walk through

the gardens of Heaven, Pete points out the various groupings along the way – e.g. the Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Protestants, Buddhists…..etc. On coming upon a walled area the newbies enquired “who is in there”, to which Pete replied “oh that’s the Catholics, they think they’re the only ones here”. There are those who would build a wall around Celtic Park and forums featuring Celtic supporters. There is no wall, or, caste system needed to accommodate Celtic fans.

We are a club “open to all” and we have supporters of all religious and political persuasion – this is a strength to be cherished, not a reason to set up checkpoints to scrutinise. Does stuffing fingers into ears and shouting the loudest really achieve anything?
