Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

Paddy McCourt is not guff but I suspect only Pele when in Derry..he’s a strange one…talented, robust but possibly naturally unfit?

  9. Beram Kayal must wonder what kinda savage backwater he has landed in.

Players will think twice about coming here if this continues.

Celtic players seem to be fair game for the hatchet men.

At times, red card offences don’t even get us a free kick ffs…

  10. Margaret McGill

`Lets not over hype Dylan McGeough quite yet. The same happened to McCourt and to me he’s McGuff. Sorry.’

What utter nonsense. Where other players were taking ages to control the ball and make a pass today Paddy McCourt looked poised and assured in everything he did. His ball control, passing and vision were way superior to that of any other player on the park.

    Jeez I despair sometimes.

    Goodnight.

  11. TET

No problem. I see Barca let you down tonight. Could’ve been Gollam referreeing that one. Shocking decisions on offsides against Messi and penalty at end. Me? I got good odds on a team from East End of Glasgow to win Treble when we were 15 adrift. Keep the faith!

    Good night!

Against Peterhead and Faroes he’s brilliant. One down against the huns or one down away in Europe. McCourt? Nope!

  13. Tricoloured Ribbon on

Nope Cults Bhoy and not naturally unfit either.

We threw away idiotic points against the likes of St.Johnstone and Hibs when Paddy ,starting the game, could have secured the points instead of chasing the game when all is lost. Not saying he should start every game but McCourt should have started more games than he has.

  14. Many years ago when I first got interested in football, my Da tried his hardest to diswade me from getting involved, I asked him why, his reply was, why give your time and money to a corrupt game, this was back in the early 60’s, he was right.

it’s not changed, never has never will, unless we get out of this corrupt sectarian sham of a country.

why doesn’t he play more? I don’t see him in training…

  17. Margaret McGill

I would much rather have Paddy in my squad than not have him.

The genesis of our current resurgence was Fir Park.

Paddy was the man that won us the gem that day.

    Just an opinion mind!

  18. Tricoloured Ribbon on

    Margaret McGill,

If it wasnt for a piece of utter fantastic skill from McCourt at Fir Park which led to a winning goal from Hooper,Lennon could have been on his P45.

I would say the resurgence began w/ 3-3 Kilmarnock.

I’m not saying he’s crap just not Celtic class.

I think he’s greedy and I get the impression his head down manoeuvres sometimes piss off the other players.

  20. Maggie

Paddy was deployed in Vic’s role today, and he was a revalation, no need for the maisie runs, he did what was asked of him, he broke uo the play, he got rid and nearly every time to someone who had the same colour of shirt.

    Paddy Mc Court world class.

Paddy McCourt world Class..ok lets not go there..lets agree to disagree. Just my opinion ..Celtic should sell him. This window!

if ye get this later, take note pls buddy !!

cos for once, am in opposition to your opinion, fella

you say Broony is NOT the man

    i say…”au contraire, mon ami” !

Broony has been shoddy over the piece (4yrs)

    fair do’s !!

however, during this turn of the year, he has been ABSOLUTE CLASS !!!

am happy to see the real Broony now stand up

i met him last season and says – bud ! DISCIPLINE !

its taken him a few months since then but thank God,

    he’s grasped it

discipline in tacklin, discipline in passing

his twisting and turning has been majestic, his energy has been unsurpassed and most of all, his controlled aggression and indeed enjoyment(!) in his play has been a veritable joy to behold

i’m also starting to enjoy the STARE !

(it just used to upset me before)

if he keeps this up (never done that yet !!), he will have one heck of a season – i hope he does

    lets see what happens

wishing a very happy new year to you and yours
