Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

As the resident film buff on here, have you ever heard of one called “CLEANING UP THE STREETS”?

An independent Canadian production, the only time I ever saw it was in the early days of C4.

Cannot find any reference to it on the web,but would love to track it down.

And coming from a far-from-fan of tv and film, that’s saying something!

Just had a wee look at the Scottish Cup archives.

Feb 2009 (v Queen’s Park) was the last time we had a home draw?! 3 seasons ago.

Semi Finalists 2 years ago (Ross County, ouch) with no home tie, winners last year with no home draw. So we were involved in maximum number of draws.

Away to Ross County is a certainty, Rob Maclean let it slip last night.

I’ll take anybody for us, if we’re good enough to win the cup we’re good enough to beat whoever is put in our way!

As long as we don’t get a team who has a player in the squad whose sister’s ex-boyfriend’s cousin’s uncle drove the Inverness Caledonian Thistle/Clyde/Ross County [delete as appropriate] team bus the day they knocked Celtic out of the cup, then we can be spared listening to Ian Croker mentioning it every 5 minutes.

  14. I hope we get the hun. A home tie would be nice but either way if anyone is going to dump them out it will be us.

  15. Snake Plissken on

The animals have not beaten Celtic at Celtic park in the Scottish cup for well over 100 years. It is a Hibs in the tournament – esque record.

This would be the best draw possible financially and in a footballing sense.

We can kill off the Fat PLG’s season.

I honestly canny see how they can fix this one,so we’ll see.

  25. I would rather avoid a shame game against Der Hun.

They are on the slide and know it. Dirty tactics on and off the park and their hordes polluting the airwaves and TV channels is something we can all do without.

Let a giant killer put out Rangers as Celtic stroll through the rounds to Hampden for the final.

‘Give him some of his own medicine’?

You’re obviously very observant, noticing other fans’ facial expressions during a huns game. Personally it takes me all my time to watch what’s going on on the pitch.
