Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

Bit late is answering this, but even if you have lost your copy of the betting slip, you will still be paid out.

Unless someone else has found it and cashed it in – very unlikely – then you simply go to the shop where you placed your bet and tell them you have lost your copy. They will give you a slip to complete and ask you to write the bet again, as close as you can to the original. You will also have to sign it.

They will match that against your copy-slip against the scanned original and you will be paid out.

Anyone think Alan Smith from Newcastle would be a decent signing..think he might be on silly money and surprisingly is only 31

    Sell Ki to fund Rhodes?

I like that idea, especially if it meant more game time for our most creative midfielder.

The lad Salihi has rediculously impressive stats so why would he be a cheaper option?

    What gives there?

    Interesting, from yesterday:

    Fouls:

Tete de Pierre 17 Celtic 4

    Yellow cards:

Tete de Pierre 3 Celtic 0

Wee team using over-robust approach, card count consistent with that.

    Fouls:

    Arbroath 9 Rangers 14

    Yellow cards:

    Arbroath 2 Rangers 1

Big team using robust approach, card count inconsistent.

Keep Ki and sign Salihi or sell Ki and sign Rhodes?

I only ask as our next game seems an age away…

  11. Good solid performance in the Blue Toon yesterday, marred only by the unpunished elbow on J.Ledley.

Good to see Izzy get a full 90 minutes; with his proper footballer’s haircut he displaces the #9 Enigma from the tonsorial podium.

We’re building up a nice head of momentum; knocking in goals at one end and keeping them out at the other.

    No distractions, Celtic, stay focussed.

I live and work in Newcastle and a lot of my pals are season tickets at the Sports Direct Arena :-). They cannot hide their contempt for Smith and have said for 2 years plus that he is “hopeless”. Given some of the dross they have to endure I’d be giving Smith a VERY wide berth.

Add to that his open admission of his fondness for poundland fc and attendance amongst their fans at Glasgow derbies and to quote Dragon’s Den “I’m Out!”

  17. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Celtic need to object to the appointment of Scottish referees citing health and safety concerns following Scottish referee’s failure to punish serious foul play and violent conduct in the last few games. We already have one player out to a long term injury where the serious foul play that contributed to his injury was not punished. It’s only luck that Dylan McGeough, James Forrest and Joe Ledley are not on our injury list.

If she stayed in the UK,she’d probably have chosen that option by now through necessity.

On the other hand,if she refused it-quite rightly-on ethical grounds, why should someone else be barred for claiming because the job offered to them was unsuitable in their opinion?

Under EU rules,I think they would have a case due to precedent.

  20. Cup Draw

Aberdeen are hitting a bit of form so I fully expect Celtic to be drawn away at Pittodrie. Rangers will get another 1st or 2nd division side away.

Being at home doesn’t suit Rangers. They will get decent money being away from home and the match will be televised meaning extra revenue.

It means they don’t have to pay the costs of hosting a match where they need to share the gate money anyway.

They are also unable to give tickets away free with the purchase of football strips for cup matches.

    THE HONEST MISTAKE 0912

I’ve been hammering the H&S line for ages. Duty of care, etc. Failure by the governing body and also the player’s union to enforce these.

If there IS a dossier,I hope it focuses on this, rather than the arbitrary and contentious nature of refereeing decisions which Platini has already said is a main attraction for the game!

The twat,he wants to get himself over here a bit more often. Barca were denied a stonewaller last night, and a good goal too. That happens to us on a weekly basis.

    Sod all arbitrary about it.

    Not even contentious,in fact.
