Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

TheOriginalSadiesBhoy – You want him to stay at Hearts, ‘cos he’s one of the few who kicks lumps out of the huns when he plays against them too.

BTW Jim McInally ex -St.Julies/Maggies (Chateaulait) (someone was wondering earlier)

  2. Tom McLaughlin on

When I said that because the Peterhead players wer brutish, it didn’t necessarily mean they were playing to order, I was neither attacking nor defending Jim McInally. I was merely playing devil’s advocate by saying, sometimes players play that way of their own volition.

However, having now been made aware of his earlier-in-the-week comments by a few on-the-ball posters . . . McInally is a disgrace.

There should have been 2 red cards. One for the elbow on Joe and another for the thuggish tackle on . . . was it the young Czech? Can’t remember now.

Excellent post! My sentiments exactly. Leaving grass 5 inches long and booting skillfull players in the air is applauded in Scotland. They wonder why they are poor?

Dylan McGeouch has looked more impressive than even Aiden was in his earliest outings.

The biggest concern is the level of thuggery our young players are being subjected to,with the complicity of the MIBs.

I’m sure that there is a concerted effort afoot to intimidate our talented players into seeking transfers out of the SPL.

Additionally, the well-publicised injuries to our key players must make an impression on most of our signing targets, unless they come from Timbuctoo.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a factor in Chris Commons loss of form….he didn’t come to Scotland to end his career pre-maturely..especially as he has the extra responsibilities of a new father…he was on the receiving end of some shocking tackles last season, which could have ended his career…and no protection. against Reynolds of Motherwell this season.

Beram Kayal will never be the same player again, following his latest injury, and Young James has had to suffer so many bone-crushing challenges this season…….every player has a breaking point, where they will not tolerate further abuse, and will seek pastures new…especially if they didn’t come through the ranks.

It was most disappointing that Lennie came into the Sky Studio immediately after the game, before he could have analysed the video, and dismissed McCulloch’s thuggish challenge as a ‘blood and guts’ encounter between two players…startling naivety from our manager, and not for the first time in near identical circumstances. He needed to be far more circumspect, like Wenger or Ferguson, and could simply have said that ‘I need to see it again on the video’,before making a judgement.

The equally shocking challenge on James was not discussed.

Mjallby had the opportunity to raise the issue of the repeated assaults on Young James ,in the article comparing him with Aiden, but chose not to.

I can understand the need to keep the temperature down, and ensure that the focus should remain squarely on the financial woes of AsbestosDome.

However,we are doing our players a disservice, and questions should be asked about the level of protection given to our talented and valuable players by the Mibbery.

Why cannot Lawwell speak out on the issue, especially now that he is on an SFA committee?

You sorely want a striker, we have Morten do we not, don’t be wanting too much…..

  7. The number 4 for them had 2 red card offences before he was booked, the elbow was a deliberate attempt to injure Joe and should have been a red card. Players can see that they will get away with it against us. We kept our composure and discipline again today and we’ll have to do that until the end of the season.

So blowing a ten point lead as we did in 80 (when only 2 pts for a win) in last 2 months and then abusing and running down our current efforts is to be applauded ? As is 20 years plus of failing to get beyond xmas in Europe…..then earning a living by abusing the club, and it’s current players….

    Not for me.

Burley, Mcleod, Provan, Nicholas……these guys are more of a problem than clowns like Jabba, Keevins and Young.

  12. I watched Sherlock tonight. Not as good as last week’s outstanding episode but still very good.

I noticed that the Director of both episodes, Paul McLaughlin, is officially listed as coming from Bellshill although I feel he may have Viewpark connections.

Any of you guys come across this very talented guy. Name suggests he may be a kindred spirit.

Also, just finished the second season of Boardwalk Empire. This season was outstanding and the last 3 episodes were right up there with the best of the Sopranos.

Sopranos maintained high quality for all 6 or 7 seasons so B..E has a bit to go IMHO however I think it has the potential to go there.

Steve Buscemi has long been a favourite of mine both as actor and Director. In Nucky Thompson he has found the starring role he deserves.
