Petrie would rather sell McGinn to anyone but Celtic

602

It comes as no surprise that Celtic have made a bid for Hibernian’s John McGinn.  The player was the standout central midfield performer in domestic football against a Celtic team who are at their strongest in that area.

Should he sign, he would be a similar age to that of Stuart Armstrong when he joined Celtic three years ago, and who he will replace in the squad.  He is also a better player that Stuart was when he left Dundee United.  He has the engine and attitude for Brendan Rodgers to significantly improve him.

Goals grab headlines and the two McGinn scored at Celtic Park last season, as well as his goal at Ibrox which secured a win, raised the player’s profile, but goals only tell a small part the McGinn story.

Hibs will be happy to wait until the last week of August and will try to attract other bidders.  Despite taking a back seat when it comes to day-to-day duties, Rod Petrie remains a key figure at Easter Road and will do whatever he can to sell to anyone but Celtic.  I don’t expect Celtic to pay whatever Hibs ask, so the deal is far from assured, but with only 11 months remaining on his contract, he will definitely leave Hibs before 1 September.

I see Belgium got awful leaky at the back last night….

  1. The young defenders Ajer and Hendry with old man Simo alongside played well.

Seemed to cover for each other and no ball watching .

Problem is we cannot have it both ways. We didn’t know about the 5WA, or we did know about it opposed it or would have if we could have. We did not attend the meeting(s) where various versions of the 5WA were drawn up, ergo we were not party to it, but is that the same as not knowing about the final version? Petrie knew about it, did we?

I am in and out of meetings today, so on and off the computer …

but last week someone took me to task for not responding (while I was in court, and couldn’t respond) … so I, at least, wanted to acknowledge your response, and respond, even if briefly …

and, frankly, while I now disagree with most of your conclusions (as they seem to be based on the view that Celtic are acting in good faith), I do not question your good faith … and so, out of respect for the work that you have put in, I feel that I owe you a response (even if it is one with which you may disagree)…

I dont understand why you suggest that Celtic needed support from other clubs in order to act? That gets thrown around like it is a fact, but I see no basis for that in fact or in law. There is even less basis for Celtic not to have put its position on the record, even if they may not have been able to achieve their position.

Rangers were never going to be allowed to die, because NO ONE (including Celtic, as directed by DD) wanted them gone completely. I get that. The only issue was what sanctions would be applied. That is where things get murky (again, because Celtic wont answer questions about its role in the proceedings).

As P67 himself wrote, the game was over and a ‘child on a donkey’ could have taken this over the goal line. Why did our Board not do what P67 himself said a child could do?

As for relying upon the one letter…. one letter, five years after the fact?! Celtic cant cherry pcik what information they give, and expect it to be given any weight. If they want that letter to be credible, the whole story must be disclosed, so that it can be understood in its proper context.

The story now seems to be that the league was so corrupt, that Celtic were powerless to do or say anything …. if that is the case, and Celtic knew the fix was in, and nothing could be done, why did Celtic even write last year?

    Bigbhoy@5:06

Regarding the 5WA, you state that “Celtic had no part in this agreement and didn’t know of it’s existence.” What evidence is there of this? I am not aware of any Celtic statement to this effect, but perhaps I have missed something.

Listened to a hun on the bus there discussing Roger Waters show in Glasgow Hydro on Friday. Said hun said he loved Pink Floyd as a great British band, but he hates them now. As he got off the bus at Yoker, I said, ” All in all, you’re just another Brick in the Wall.” ?

A mixed Day with emotions for me today

    Unfortunately I am down South,

but 1 year ago, at about exactly this time, I posted on the loss of my Auld Da – miss you Auld Fhella, and my goodness how you would have enjoyed a Double Treble, bet your still celebrating up there with your pal wee Jinky ???

Then I get this message from my daughter Laura now in Ghana

Hey mum/Dad we’re at the school safe and sound. Not got wifi yet but hopefully soon so I can send some pics. After our mega long journey to the school what a welcome, was very overwhelming the girls were running, cheering and dancing after the bus singing ‘you are welcome!’ Today we spent all morning playing games with the girls, we even managed a 100 player duck duck goose lol! Then went a walk through the village! The girls absolutely love us and are constantly cuddling us, touching us, holding our hands or following us lol already it’s been such an amazing experience just seeing all the girls and spending time with them. Today was a public holiday so the girls had the day off school and just played with us all day, tomorrow school starts which will be another experience but it’s one of the boys we’re with his graduation so celebrate that too! The best way to describe the school and staying is like camping but we camp in a bed, feels like sleeping outside lol one of the goats had 2 kids yesterday so I got to name them and I called the 2 Hugo and Honey so the girls keep saying ‘oooogo and uneee’ haha Stephen is absolutely loving it too he just keeps smiling and laughing with the girls, they even tried to pleat his hair tonight lol xx

What a legacy you have left behind Dad

Now Jobo – very Hooooopy Birthday

Well done to big mik the mad Swedish Tim ?

Finally I would welcome John McGinn, so

If the brits win this I do worry they could go all the way, if the Colombians had thot this through and taken the best striker on the planet to the WC, the brits wouldn’t have had a chance.

  7. Eric Reily was on the SPL board at the time the 5WA was drawn up, the SPL were part of the 5WA, if he didn”t know about it, he would have been derelict in his duty as a director of both the SPL and Celtic, to say we didn’t know anything about the 5WA is total bollix.

The huns were always gonna get a helping hand, I accept that the SFA went beyond their duty in helping them but our board also wanted them alive and breathing, they needed them in reality, Pedro himself said so in as many words, this was backed up by the great moustachioed one, money talks and they generate mega money for the game in scotland, end of.

To say we knew nothing about the 5WA is complete fantasy.

  8. If hibs want more that 1.5 million + allan for mcginn they can f@#k right off. The fact we got 7 million for amstrong is not important, just like we get lower value for our players when clubs from the EPL come calling.

Mcginn knows celtic want him now, he can wait it out as can we. Another season playing will do him no harm. Not sure I want him mind you

It has been written, that Eric Riley was missing from the “final” ??? Written and agreed 5WA

It’s been claimed he was on holiday at time of agreement, and the info in not shared with the board members ???

Only what I’ve read on CQN in the past

  10. Catchy wee tune the ColOmbian anthem.

    Then that GSTQ dirge!

    C’mon the ColOmbians!

    HH!!

  11. Charlotte Fakes told who was at the 5 way agreement meetings. If Celtic were involved it would be a 6 way agreement.

Celtic were not aware until the agreement was completed. There’s no evidence because we had no idea of the fix. It’s the absence of evidence that proves the case.

I contend that Rangers were working that Peat, Gordon Smith, Regan Ogilvie etc as well as others like Ballantyn were all in authority to help them out.

Petrie maybe was involved via his SFA position. He is not our friend and is a key member of the blazer faction which we have tried to oust.

  12. NorrieM

Aye, and the suits didn’t ask for the relative info if you believe that fantasy story, our suits are on the ball, no way on gods earth would they have let that come to pass.

They knew fine, money is the god, end of.

Mike in Toronto @ 6:34 pm,

The idea that Celtic could have stopped the 5WA or ensured due process was followed in the various inquiries and tribunals is to me an absolute nonsense…

As BigBhoy states, this operation had being going on for years, with changes to rules, placemen in position and strategies formulated that were going to ensure that whatever happens a Rangers survived. Best case scenario playing in the SPL, out of Ibrox with history intact,

They almost got there, the timing of the SPL vote and the new SBs being released had a major impact. Due to a supporters backlash.

If you think Celtic should have spoken out could you tell me what happened when John Reid spoke out about officials?

Could you tell me what happened when Peter Lawwel “joked” about Sevco being an impersonation on Rangers?

The fact was Rangers MKII plan was was derailed by a couple of things, is the reason why Sevco are still struggling today… If had gone absolutely to plan there would have been RRM running the Sevco show from day one and the continuity Club would have been parachuted straight into the SPL.

    Now MiT

On several occasions I have invited you to give your opinion on processes such as the contrived SFA Inquiry and subsequent JPDT determinations and LNS Commission Sham. You don’t.

IMO the reason is and you could easily prove me wrong, is because you are a practising Lawyer – the folks involved in those those processes were practising Lawyers, including Judges and QCs.

Even though these were quasi judicial processes and in a different country…

You have to be very careful what you say…

So why can’t he understand that as a member of the Scottish football “fraternity”, Celtic likewise have a duty of care about what they say…

Of course as usual this duty doesn’t extend to RRM.

Celtic were dealt a rotten hand and have played a blinder, we’re bringing the house down, they are losing their shirts (literally)…

The current hot spell takes me back to the drought of 1976. Mrs gene was pregnant with our first son and it was really uncomfortable (so she tells me) – anyway we had booked a weeks holiday in St Ives at the end of august which was a traditional holiday week in the potteries. By this time the country was in full drought mode with lots of areas having tankards or standpipes.

You’ve guessed it – the week of our holiday saw an end to the dry spell and a rainy week – so the sight of locals queuing in the rain to get water from a stand pipe made me smile.

Moral of the story don’t book a holiday in the UK at the same time as me.
