Petrie would rather sell McGinn to anyone but Celtic

602

It comes as no surprise that Celtic have made a bid for Hibernian’s John McGinn.  The player was the standout central midfield performer in domestic football against a Celtic team who are at their strongest in that area.

Should he sign, he would be a similar age to that of Stuart Armstrong when he joined Celtic three years ago, and who he will replace in the squad.  He is also a better player that Stuart was when he left Dundee United.  He has the engine and attitude for Brendan Rodgers to significantly improve him.

Goals grab headlines and the two McGinn scored at Celtic Park last season, as well as his goal at Ibrox which secured a win, raised the player’s profile, but goals only tell a small part the McGinn story.

Hibs will be happy to wait until the last week of August and will try to attract other bidders.  Despite taking a back seat when it comes to day-to-day duties, Rod Petrie remains a key figure at Easter Road and will do whatever he can to sell to anyone but Celtic.  I don’t expect Celtic to pay whatever Hibs ask, so the deal is far from assured, but with only 11 months remaining on his contract, he will definitely leave Hibs before 1 September.

I see Belgium got awful leaky at the back last night….

Big Mike (in Toronto) is more than capable of speaking up for himself, as are you, but you are surely being disingenuous in claiming that Celtic actively opposed or tried in any way to oppose the Five Way Agreement. Correct me if I am wrong but I have yet to see any letter by or from Celtic that even mentions the 5WA, far less opposing it. Indeed I have, not knowingly, even seen the final version of it, though I have seen earlier versions. I mentioned last week, in a similar context, that Res 12 was now somehow being conflated with the 5WA, in the sense that that agreement prohibits or prevents certain penalties being levied on RFC or their successor club by the Independent Panel examining the issues from 2010 onwards. In footballing terms, the 5WA is and was an affront to Scottish football, and not only that, it has created the template, the rulebook if you like, for all that followed it.

  2. We get £6,380 per day for each player at the WC. So even though Boyata never kicked a ball the cash keeps flowing for him and with ML on the verge too, his suspension wont matter we’ll still get the money.

  3. I can’t read the blog because of the add that covers it when I try and scroll down. Large part of the reason I don’t post much any more.

Which may be a good thing….

    But it’s irritating

T imbhoy, Yep,like all the players we have signed from outside of Scotland have been great. So many duds you could not count them.

*In our 130 year history, 110 of them while under the thumb of the craft we have won 159 domestic trophies, 14 one off ones including the Big Cup and 90 reserve and youth ones, the latter with primarily domestic players.

No bad for a club that signs breests and duds, 2 of our recent duds BTW have been successful elsewhere and just signed for Norwich and Porto respectively.

If John McGimms grampa had allowed Davie Hay tae sign a couple of “duds” we probably would never have heard of their cheatin lyin thievin corrupted niar.

We never hear any criticism of the poor signings both Jock and MON made, and they did, both of whom took us tae European Finals, I have no doubts the Blessed Brendan eventually will.

The 5 way agreement was between SFA, SPL, SFL, Rangers and Sevco. Celtic had no part in this agreement and didn’t know of it’s existence. We didn’t get a choice or a vote.

It was completed before it was announced.

When you look at the people involved then you see why it was done in secret. They all were used to secret meetings of secret societies

Celtic were naive and didn’t expect a back door rescue of Rangers by the governing bodies.

I believe Rangers had filled the governing bodies with their placement years before as they knew that such an event could happen

  8. You’ve got to feel for Big Mik ( his legs have gone) He’s had decent WC and now he will miss his country’s biggest game in decades;(((

    Hej Mika!

  9. Big bhoy

The old rangers always had placemen in the governing bodies – wouldn’t credit them with forecasting a liquidation, too arrogant for that – just came in handy when they died

  10. Dembele, Forrest and Ntcham the stand out in first half. Noticeable we are going direct a bit more than normal, less passing for passing sake. Set pieces still awful.
