Petrie would rather sell McGinn to anyone but Celtic

602

It comes as no surprise that Celtic have made a bid for Hibernian’s John McGinn.  The player was the standout central midfield performer in domestic football against a Celtic team who are at their strongest in that area.

Should he sign, he would be a similar age to that of Stuart Armstrong when he joined Celtic three years ago, and who he will replace in the squad.  He is also a better player that Stuart was when he left Dundee United.  He has the engine and attitude for Brendan Rodgers to significantly improve him.

Goals grab headlines and the two McGinn scored at Celtic Park last season, as well as his goal at Ibrox which secured a win, raised the player’s profile, but goals only tell a small part the McGinn story.

Hibs will be happy to wait until the last week of August and will try to attract other bidders.  Despite taking a back seat when it comes to day-to-day duties, Rod Petrie remains a key figure at Easter Road and will do whatever he can to sell to anyone but Celtic.  I don’t expect Celtic to pay whatever Hibs ask, so the deal is far from assured, but with only 11 months remaining on his contract, he will definitely leave Hibs before 1 September.

I see Belgium got awful leaky at the back last night….

With you there on Neymar.I know he hammed it up,but if anyone had deliberately Stood on a Celtic players ankle like that, this place would have been in meltdown. If he does not do the histrionics,it goes unnoticed. How the guy escaped a red was beyond me.

  2. !!Bada Bing!! on

If Martin O’Neill ‘lost money’ for Celtic, who’s fault is that? The guy in charge of the purse strings, that’s who.Managers will spend as much as they can, to make their team better.

  3. Dont really see how Petrie can play hardball over McGinn considering the ammount of loan players going Hibs direction this last few seasons.

    Is he really that pathetic

  4. imo we have better already at the club not getting a regular game than bring in another project, what qualities will he bring , he is a clumsy tackler ,poor balance, makes long runs up the park with the ball looking at his feet oblivious to what is going on around him but this is my opinion and others have theirs.

if he does sign he will be another bit part player who will end out on loan in the not to distant future.

A magical breeze began to clear the stale air of the long-sealed shrine to all of Timdom!

As the atmospheric disturbance dissipated, it left behind an ethereal lingering essence of emerald, silver and gold wisps of stars spinning, darting and sparkling within an initially enticing but insubstantial outline. And then like a reflection gaining shape in the calming ripples of a loch, there formed a beautiful pale skinned and red-headed enigmatically smiling colleen.

  6. Reading the twitter updates from Celtic it would appear that Johnston is the star man. A goal and an assist.

I share your incredulity. Someone will get one for a jersey tug and a bit of time wasting though. At least they’re not dishing out yellows for goal celebrations. . . There’d be no one available for selection!

If we don’t give Ralston and Johnston a chance this season, it doesn’t bode well for other youngsters coming through from the Development Squad. Ajer got a chance, and took it, Hendry has had a few games also and done not too bad. If my memory serves me right, I think Tierney got a chance due to injury. Also, I am at a loss to understand why Kouassi does not get more game time, he has looked good every time I’ve seen him. HH

Ajer went and played a full season at Killie before getting his chance at Celtic. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

If Ralston, Johnston and Morgan do that it’d be of benefit to them and Celtic

  20. I would imagine our manager and captain talk about opposition players occasionally and Brown is on record as saying he thinks JM is his hardest domestic opponent.

  21. I reckon the McGinn deal was all but done months ago….look at the players and manager St Mirren have already brought in and Hibs have signed a couple of good players on good wages too.

Plus Celtic can’t just offer cash plus Scott Allan- Hibs would have to ask for him to be part of the deal.

He will be a brilliant long term signing….if ye can’t see it then you’re playing Football Manager on the computer too much.

  22. Timaloy 29, at 11.39am,

Ralston was at DU for 2nd half if last season, and did ok from I saw, certainly towards the end. Johnston could be utilised as an alternative to Forrest, unless Roberts decides to sign, then a loan out would be appropriate. Ajer was on loan at Killie, but he got a chance when he returned (through injury?). HH

Always remember Ferguson saying all his players told him to sign Ronaldo after MU played Sporting Lisbon in a friendly. That kind of thing goes on and I’m sure Brendan will ask the players what they think.
