Players are not machines

Celtic will attempt to win their 29th successive game in domestic cup competitions at home to Partick Thistle tonight, whom they have beaten twice already during that run.  The only teams we have faced more often are: Aberdeen (4, including three cup finals), Motherwell (3, 2 cup finals) and Newco (3, all semi-finals).

This is as big a home banker that will exist in sport this week but you and I know our history.  Thistle are bottom of the Championship right now and the last time we faced the bottom club in that division in the League Cup at Celtic Park, we lost, to Morton, who finished the season in the same position.

Apart from the win (of course), I really want to see Callum McGregor sitting in the stand alongside us tonight.  He has achieved his Martyr of the Playing Minutes award, now we need to give him a chance to pace himself before facing the likes of Cluj next week.  The same argument could be made for James Forrest.  Players are not machines.

A bright start and no mistakes, Celtic.

  1. The time to bring on the fringe players is when the game has already been won, or introduce them one or two at a time, agree that Calum Mac, Ryan Christie, Scott Brown all need to be rested, but they should be rested in turn. Sending out a brand new team of untried unprovens is a recipe for DISASTER, however, I’m sure Neil knows what he is doing and will not be sending out the B team tonight.

Put it another way, no one cares about the League Cup, bigger fish to fry etc, but if we were to get knocked out by a brand new manager inspired Partick Thistle, light the touch paper and stand well back

Rangers* minded media digs up ex Rangers player to tell the world that inferior Rangers* striker is superior to Celtic striker who everybody with the slightest knowledge of fitba’ knows is actually far superior to Rangers* striker.

  6. McGregor, Brown, Forrest & Christie should be rested.

Failing to do so is a vote of no confidence in the likes of Ntcham, Rogic, Micky Johnston & Shved.

Hope Luca Connell plays too. The lad has played in the English Championship. He’ll have no fear of Partick Thistle.

I care about the League Cup. And, I’m looking forward to going to the game.

Maybe that is something to do with Celtic, but I could be wrong.

Cheers pal – didnae know that – the laddie must be itching for a game, so that’s a pity.

If the likes of Arzani and Shved are fit, then seeing them would brighten up what looks like it may be a fairly dreich and windy night for us Celtic Park-bound punters.

A wee bit of additional interest, like seeing a new winger, helps take the mind off the swirling wind and rain :-)))
