Policing and Celtic

830

I spoke to Celtic today about various questions surrounding stewarding and policing in and around the stadium.

The club would not be specific on any particular incident but I got a run down on various instances (alleged assault, vandalism) when Celtic have responded to police requests for identifying information on fans.  Celtic said the police can only ask for identifying information if they allege a crime has been committed and Celtic’s safety certificate, allowing them to open the stadium, depends on the club complying with police requests if they allege a crime has been committed.

The club were clear that complying with police requests on such instances is not a matter of choice for Celtic, “It happens, it has always happened, and it happens at every other club in the UK”.

I asked if the club target fans and ask the police to arrest them.  I was told this is ludicrous to suggest the police do the bidding of the club (I was also laughed at for making the suggestion).  Celtic can revoke tickets and stadium access without recourse to the police.

My conversation happened before anyone at Celtic heard last night’s podcast from the HomeBhoys but I asked specific questions about the red haired fan discussed who was allegedly brandishing a seat and was told no police request had been received in connection to him and that his details had therefore not been passed to the police.

I understand the club have met with various supporters’ groups and clarified these issues, as well as more general stadium safety matters, and that they will issue a statement later today in response to questions asked by the Celtic Trust, who I believe put many of these points in writing.

After speaking to Celtic I spoke to a police officer who is a regular Match Commander at SPL games (not Celtic games) who confirmed clubs would lose their safety certificate if they failed to cooperate with the police.

Having had the chance to put questions to Celtic I asked them give others the same opportunity and to unconditionally meet with any fans’ group with concerns on any of these matters. They assured me they would.

  1. The last year has seen celtic supporters targeted by the police at home, in work , going to and in Celtic park. In addition there is even a report of someone being targeted returning from a family vacation.

Peter Lawwell makes out if I understand correctly all clubs in uk are under the same rules. I don’t hear other clubs complaining like Celtic fans.

There is a very definite escalation in the targeting of Celtic fans ( in my humble opinion it is not just the GB. As I have stated several times as a late arriver at games I see the police van stopping at individual teenage Celtic fans ). I am usually rushing in having left for the game at 2.30pm

So what has changed. Is it Campbell Corrigan on his mission to eliminate the GB or Peter Lawwell on his mission mission to eliminate the GB or both. I don’t know for sure , however with the over zealous behaviour of the police at the Gallowgate etc they are certainly happy to make the arrests. Peter Lawwell is taking the Celtic support for mugs if he is pretending innocence. He also wants the GB sanitised or if necessary eliminated.

This “it’s the same at other clubs is nonsense”. Celtic fans are experiencing and unparalleled escalation in direct intervention on individuals by the Police. Has Peter Lawwell provided Lawyers to these Celtic fans ….has he tried to. He knows the top Criminal Lawyer in Glasgow , who is also a tic fan and runs a football agency ( including 3 sevconians ). This lawyer also defended a young tic fan who needed help via the huddle board.

I am scribing this note from Berlin ; however I am a businessman who has the interests of the whole Celtic family at heart , particularly those most exposed. I do not feel that is the same as the club. I am not a great believer in words ….just action. Nothing from Pedro and I know how he can play.

  2. The bit missing from the club statement is why they oppose the bill. The implication is that it gives the polis the right to withhold a safety certificate if they refuse to comply with DPA regs, and it’s almost a ‘damned if we do, damned if we don’t’ plea.

I would never expect our club to withhold information that was required to uphold the law of the land, and I don’t think for one moment that we don’t have guys who support us who break the law.

If the polis have a bona fide case against anyone, why do they need to come to the club to get their personal details?, why not track them through their work, DWP records, GP’s, dentists, supermarket loyalty cards, any other sports memberships they have, their car registration numbers, the electoral register, their mobile phone company ? Or simply arrest them, based on the evidence they have.

IMO there is only one explanation. Either the club has been made aware of serious criminal activity in the west of scotland which coincidentally involves a large number of people who attend Celtic matches, or they are complicit in arranging a list of of guys who the polis think might.

Time for the board to tell us why they oppose the bill. That should sort this out once and for all.

If Scotland hadn’t been so limited in who they couldn’t / wouldn’t choose for the team over many decades, we might be in a ‘ better place’ today…. An indisputable FACT !!!!!!!!

Despite years of civil war the Serbs have never witnessed anything as brutal as Alan Hutton’s defending.

  7. Kaldenbauer does not recognise that the white lines are there for a purpose. They can actually be used for defensive tactics. Row Z is an option in extremis. He is dire, as is Hutton.

I think the Irish have sub-contracted the stewarding to Celtic – there are loads of hi-viz jackets hanging around that far away corner on the right hand side

  9. Hutton (at fault on both goals) turns his back on a cross – takes a throw-in straight to an opponent – how does he get a start?

Strike that – how is even in the Scotland pool?

  11. Maloney is the same waste of a Scotland jersey as he was a Celtic jersey (bar one season). Would be better giving someone like Mackay-Steven a chance ahead of him, can’t be any worse. But then he always was WGS’s favourite

Your statement earlier regards my religion reads like something a member of the OO or typical Sevconian would spout .

    Not impressed at all.

Your contention cannot be justified. No doubt you would state the inquisition and current scandals to justify your claim .

Whilst bad and repulsive , it is not the religion that is the cause but mans own frailties.

Whoever was Spurs manager at that time must have been pure mad

  19. Yeah, who was the Spurs manager who fell into that trap? Think ‘arry Boy punted him PDQ.

Hutton was one of the most astonishing transfers in the late Huns era. Nine million for such a haddy is beyond fishy in my book…
