Policing and Celtic

830

I spoke to Celtic today about various questions surrounding stewarding and policing in and around the stadium.

The club would not be specific on any particular incident but I got a run down on various instances (alleged assault, vandalism) when Celtic have responded to police requests for identifying information on fans.  Celtic said the police can only ask for identifying information if they allege a crime has been committed and Celtic’s safety certificate, allowing them to open the stadium, depends on the club complying with police requests if they allege a crime has been committed.

The club were clear that complying with police requests on such instances is not a matter of choice for Celtic, “It happens, it has always happened, and it happens at every other club in the UK”.

I asked if the club target fans and ask the police to arrest them.  I was told this is ludicrous to suggest the police do the bidding of the club (I was also laughed at for making the suggestion).  Celtic can revoke tickets and stadium access without recourse to the police.

My conversation happened before anyone at Celtic heard last night’s podcast from the HomeBhoys but I asked specific questions about the red haired fan discussed who was allegedly brandishing a seat and was told no police request had been received in connection to him and that his details had therefore not been passed to the police.

I understand the club have met with various supporters’ groups and clarified these issues, as well as more general stadium safety matters, and that they will issue a statement later today in response to questions asked by the Celtic Trust, who I believe put many of these points in writing.

After speaking to Celtic I spoke to a police officer who is a regular Match Commander at SPL games (not Celtic games) who confirmed clubs would lose their safety certificate if they failed to cooperate with the police.

Having had the chance to put questions to Celtic I asked them give others the same opportunity and to unconditionally meet with any fans’ group with concerns on any of these matters. They assured me they would.

Why thank you kind sir! :-)

Unfortunately I was witness to the only piece of ‘ham & eggs’ skill(sic) when he scored against Italy in season 1965-66!

Whittaker and Hutton are poor, certainly, but Gary Caldwell ffs – never was I happier when he left Celtic. He is utterly garbage – always has been. If he was 10% of the player he thinks he is, then he would be brilliant – but he isn’t. He is absolutely chronic. The second says it all about him. Thinks he’s good enough to play a pin-point pass out when under pressure – but pin-point and Heid don’t go together – he points in one direction and the ball goes in another. Poor passer, and makes terrible decisions – thank God he is not at Celtic Park. Big Hanley covered for him about three times in the first half too. Heid is mince.

George Boyd looks good, wee no. 20 (Bridcot – apologies for spelling) been good, Hanley OK, Rhodes not much service, Maloney flattered to deceive, Naylegs – not bad. Better performance than Saturday on a very difficult surface, but Heid is rank rotten (did I mention that already?).

Glad WGS was up for making changes – more to come!

Hutton, Hanley, Adam + Hutton should be nowhere near a Scotland jersey

Hutton is so bad he should not be allowed near a Scottish jersey twice

  9. Marrakesh….that BBC so called commentator is one of the few I actually turn off the sound when he’s on. In this digital age you should be able to listen to the crowd and not the likes of these poor commentators and there side-kick expert summarizers!

  10. Caldwell had his moments st Celtic but he was hopelessly over confident and it often cost us sgdindt decent opposition.

His attempt to clear at the second goal typifies him. Not for Cdldwell the simple clearance. Instead it’s the suicide ball up had live. I doubt he could even see where he was playing it.

Rubbish but not the worst…(fatty Adam got to be up there.. )

That’ll be WGS in the LL firing line, as was Levein, Vogts and Burley. Funny how Smith never came in for any stick even though he blew it against Belarus at Hampden and then left the national side in the lurch to go on and play a big role in the death of his beloved Oldco. Some managers are too smart for the msm and WGS is one who wont miss them. Martin was another.

  14. Think we are all agreed on Heid, Hutton, Adam and Whittaker. Bad vibes for the future if WGS keeps these as picks; not that he has a lot of choice though. No chance the national team will qualify for anything with the resources available. Am surprised that WGS took up the poisoned chalice.

I always thought there was something shady with the transfer of Hutton.

The link was Lewis £40 million to Murray and only £20 million paid back?

King also had something dodgey dealings with Murray, has it all been swept away?

A lot of questions should be getting asked about Murray’s tenure at ipox.

Surely bdo will be going over it with a toothcomb.
