I spoke to Celtic today about various questions surrounding stewarding and policing in and around the stadium.
The club would not be specific on any particular incident but I got a run down on various instances (alleged assault, vandalism) when Celtic have responded to police requests for identifying information on fans. Celtic said the police can only ask for identifying information if they allege a crime has been committed and Celtic’s safety certificate, allowing them to open the stadium, depends on the club complying with police requests if they allege a crime has been committed.
The club were clear that complying with police requests on such instances is not a matter of choice for Celtic, “It happens, it has always happened, and it happens at every other club in the UK”.
I asked if the club target fans and ask the police to arrest them. I was told this is ludicrous to suggest the police do the bidding of the club (I was also laughed at for making the suggestion). Celtic can revoke tickets and stadium access without recourse to the police.
My conversation happened before anyone at Celtic heard last night’s podcast from the HomeBhoys but I asked specific questions about the red haired fan discussed who was allegedly brandishing a seat and was told no police request had been received in connection to him and that his details had therefore not been passed to the police.
I understand the club have met with various supporters’ groups and clarified these issues, as well as more general stadium safety matters, and that they will issue a statement later today in response to questions asked by the Celtic Trust, who I believe put many of these points in writing.
After speaking to Celtic I spoke to a police officer who is a regular Match Commander at SPL games (not Celtic games) who confirmed clubs would lose their safety certificate if they failed to cooperate with the police.
Having had the chance to put questions to Celtic I asked them give others the same opportunity and to unconditionally meet with any fans’ group with concerns on any of these matters. They assured me they would.

Dead right.
I couldn`t agree more.
With everything you say.

So are you arguing that any group of Celtic supporters being harassed by the the rozzers should be ignored for causing division?
I haven’t noticed anyone smearing or sneering at macjay?
…although I have noticed of lot of smearing and sneering at the GB, which I find baffling.

If you can trust the fidelity of second hand information; I am told that the GB is made up of a varied cross section of society including various religions and none, and backgrounds and nationalities of all colours but their politics are left of left in general………. Best to ask one or two of the guys involved who post on here……..

My take is no free speech or room at Paradise for the BNP, NF and their ilk……..
Do you disagree?
Interesting that your question relates only to right wing groups.
Why no reference to left wing extremist groups?……… See below……..
Could it possibly be that they represent your preference?………..Yes
Every individual has the right to be a political nutter, right, left or centre, but what has that got to do with Celtic?………. A lot…….. “more than a club”
My political opinions are irrelevant.
My focus is the good of Celtic.
What`s yours?…………… The good of Celtic and the Celtic support………..
Happy to answer your questions (see above) even though you neatly side-stepped my question re……….My take is no free speech or room at Paradise for the BNP, NF and their ilk……..
Do you disagree?

You could not have been around when M Davitt was invited to CP so you must have read the reasons some author attributed to the invite.
If that author was not part of the invite process do we really know the reasons?
If we do not really know then each of us is attributing a reason according to our personal perspective.
We might be right, we might be wrong but we should leave a bit of room for doubt.
Maybe M Davitt liked to buy more than his round?
I could believe that if I so choose, it does not make it so.

Cheers mate. I believe that most CQN posters have the love of the Club at heart but I’m concerned about the impact a divided support will have on NFL, the current squad and our ability to attract quality players in the summer.
That’s not to ignore the issues, we just need to be careful on how we react. George Square on 6th seems a good start to me.

Side-stepped?
Sorry ,pal.
“All inclusive” answers your question.
Do people have the right to be Fascists of the right? Yes.
Do people have the right to be Fascists of the left? Yes.
Do either of these groups have the right to be Celtic supporters? Yes.
Do I agree with their political preferences? A resounding NO.
More importantly, does any group of any political persuasion have the right to claim that Celtic F.C.is a supporter of its political preferences? A resounding NO.
A couple of weeks back a cqner posted an excellent it on a lack of Vision from Celtic.
This imo is the source of the problems we encounter with the club, certainly since I started talking to some of the parties.
Each group has its own agenda which it believes is the right one for the good of Celtic, but also by being a group, of themselves.
I can trace back the GB poppy banner as an example of groups going their own way and BOTH Celtic and the GB being damaged as a result.
Celtic have a big role to play in creating a Vision that the majority of supporters can agree with and I believe the current mess, some of which is a result of fragmented communication with fragmented groups (in the sense of having different purposes from each other) has come.
It is an opportunity to be seized and all parties need to come to the table open handed and agree on a Vision. It might in fact will mean compromises all round but for the good of the ideal of Celtic (of which we all have our own individual views) it has to be done.
No one wants this ongoing Celtic/Board v the support argument. It damage all parties and has its roots in the daft idea that we are all separate from each other. We are not, what anyone does impacts on an other for good or ill.
We should be aware of that and if we all love Celtic as we all do according to our understanding of what love is, be prepared in the run up to Easter to do the message that sacrifice sends out and that is to surrender self for the greater good.

What’s the GB’s agenda, how is it divisive and what posts have been ‘sneering at Macjay? Genuine questions.
Everytime I’ve read a post on a forum from a GB member or heard them speak, the have been at pains to point out thatt they don’t attempt to speak for the Celtic support as a whole. It is clear that supporting Celtic means something different to them than it does to you and this seems fair enough. If you don’t share their perception of their harrasment at the hands of certain custodians of the club and the police, that’s also fair enough, don’t support any of their actions in opposition to it.
“Gavin Masterton will lodge a petition at the Court of Session in Edinburgh this morning requesting that the company which owns Dunfermline Athletic is put into administration.”
“Should a liquidator be appointed, though, tonight’s game would not go ahead and the Dunfermline players will need to find new clubs as free agents before Friday, the final registration deadline for this season. All Dunfermline’s results in this campaign would be wiped from the records.”
Would be harsh on the clubs who have beaten them this season.
Thistle for example would lose 9 points, I think, harsh.
Another days work done in a nice mild perth on oz.. Summer over so could be the end of the 30+ days.
Still annoyed about whats going on with regards GB and the board.. Great season so far and the aul divide and conqur tactics take over.
Hopefully resolved soon. Great to hear thou celtic are looking for safe standing area.
Just dropped in to say…
I see it’s going to be yet another day of…
It’s the bored’s fault !
It’s the GB’s fault !
It’s Salmond’s fault !
It’s the SFA’s fault !
It’s the SPL’s fault !
It’s the SFL’s fault !
It’s the MSM’s fault !
It’s Sevco’s fault !
It’s CW’s fault !
It’s CG’s fault !
It’s PL’s fault !
Well…it’s awe their fault’s – The GB apart. imo
But ye know what…all of the above is being discussed because we are p#sh on the pitch imo.
Nothing to talk about ?
Now…whose fault is that ?
Now…I know that the CQN – Bob Crampsey’s(RIP) will be on to tell me why I’m talking a load of BS.
Well before ye do…consider this…would you rather have beaten Barcelona in the CL group stage game or…would you rather have beaten ST Mirren in the LCSF and, given us a good chance to stuff Hertz for putting us oot the SCSF last season ?
You see…the formula for us to unite as one – as the bored’s statement pleads – is a successful Celtic team ie: winning trophies. One trophy from four – is a bad state of affairs
and, in this regard Neil has got off the hook very easily imo. Maybe – too easily ?
I hate International weeks ever since – Jack Charlton retired.
Hopefully, Neil will get all his players back fit and ready for what could be a – tricky banana/skin type of weekend ahead…..
Hail Hail n God Bless

A reaffirmation of the best of ourselves.
Harmony,not division.
Happy Easter.
Good morning CQNers,
I’ve a few days off and enjoyed reviewing the posts in the extra hours I had this morning. I did attempt to listen to the lengthy Stevie Cairney interview posted during the night to check out the exact nature of his ‘revelations’ but I’m afraid I only managed the first 12 minutes. (I’m afraid I was bored as well as confused)
I’ve also read the statement from Celtic and I’m still none the wiser
There has been much debate about freedom of information, red hair, Irish republicanism, politics, seats thrown, things PL said or may not have said about the GB and didn’t say about LNS. It’s all very confusing.
“A good listener tries to understand what the other person is saying. In the end he may disagree sharply, but because he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with “ Kenneth A Wells
Anybody know exactly what we’re disagreeing about?
Confused.

“would you rather have beaten Barcelona in the CL group stage game or…would you rather have beaten ST Mirren in the LCSF ”
I vote for the Barca win every day. It is what some would call a no brainer. A LC win against St. Mirren would do zilch for our profile as a club. Most people know these things instinctively and would not dream of posing this choice.
Now, would I lose an SPL title for a win against Barca???
That would be a no.
Anyone have link for latesy homebhoys podcast where guy steve was speaking ?
gorbalstam,
Between last night and this morning, I have stated my case to the best of my limited ability.
There is nothing more that I can add to that view.
If you read back, you will see that I do not condone harrassment or the police handling of the Gallowgate incident, but have criticism of those who gave the authorities the opportunity to indulge in those practices, whether by incompetence of an ” administrative error” or by design, creating a situation for police action.
I do not like seeing young people exploited, for any reason.
The answers to your first two questions should be obvious to the casual observer and the reference to ” drips ” should cover your other point.
Back in again…..

“Barca team in 2nd gear”-
Prize nonsense, that one. Barca were not assured of qualifying in either the 3rd or 4th group stage games when we played. We got similar nonsense from posters criticising the Naka goal win against Man U but we don’t hear it said much about MON’s 4:3 win against Juve, where it did apply to an extent.
“Whose fault is it that CP is, allegedly, half empty.”
The people who choose not to go. Know anyone like that?
